    Aligning
    thePrint Head Using aComputer Utility
     You
    canalign theprint head using autility onyour Windows computer orMac.
     1.
    Load afew sheets ofplain paper inthe product.
     2.
    Doone ofthe following:
     •
    Windows: Right-clicktheproduct iconinthe Windows taskbar.
     •
    Mac OSX10.6/10.7/10.8 :In the Apple menuorthe Dock, select System Preferences .Select
     Print
    &Fax orPrint &Scan ,select yourproduct, andselect Options &Supplies .Select Utility
     and
    select OpenPrinter Utility.
     •
    Mac OSX10.5 :In the Apple menuorthe Dock, select System Preferences .Select Print&Fax ,
     select
    yourproduct, andselect OpenPrintQueue .Select Utility.
     3.
    Select PrintHead Alignment .
     4.
    Click Next,then clickPrint toprint analignment sheet.
     Note:
    Donot cancel printing whileyouareprinting ahead alignment pattern.
     You
    seeone ofthese windows:

    Check theprinted pattern andfollow theinstructions onthe screen tochoose thenumber
     representing
    thebest printed pattern foreach set.
     •
    After choosing eachpattern number, clickNext.
     •
    Ifno patterns arealigned inone ormore ofthe sets, choose theclosest oneineach setand click
     Realignment
    .Then printanother alignment sheetandcheck it.
     Note:
    ClickSkip(where available) ifyou want toskip aparticular alignment sheet.
     6.
    When youaredone, clickFinish .

    Cleaning
    thePaper Path
     If
    you seeinkonthe back ofaprintout, youcanclean thepaper pathtoremove anyexcess ink.
     1.
    Load afew sheets ofplain paper inthe product.
     2.
    Use theproduct controlpaneltomake acopy, butwithout placing adocument onthe scanner glass.
     3.
    Check theback ofthe ejected papertosee ifitis clean.
     4.
    Repeat asnecessary untilthepaper comes outclean.

     Close
    theoutput trayand paper support whenyouarenotusing theproduct toprotect itfrom dust.
     Caution:
    Donot use ahard brush, alcohol, orpaint thinner toclean theproduct oryou may damage it.
     Do
    not use oilorother lubricants insidetheproduct orlet water getinside it.
     1.
    Turn offthe product.
     2.
    Unplug thepower cable.
     3.
    Disconnect anyconnected cables.
     4.
    Remove allthe paper.
     5.
    Clean thescanner glasswithasoft, lint-free cloth(microfiber isrecommended), moistenedwitha
     little
    glass cleaner.
     Caution:
    Donot spray glasscleaner directlyonthe glass anddonot press theglass surface with
     any
    force.
     6.
    Clean theouter caseandcontrol panelwithasoft, drycloth. Donot use liquid orchemical cleansers.

    you need toship your product ortransport ita long distance, prepareitfor transportation asdescribed

    Caution:
    Duringtransportation andstorage, followtheseguidelines:
     •
    Avoid tiltingtheproduct, placingitvertically, orturning itupside down;otherwise inkmay leak.

    Leave theinkcartridges installed.Removing thecartridges candryouttheprint head andmay prevent
     the
    product fromprinting.
     •
    Do not carry theproduct byitscontrol panel;thismay damage theproduct.
     1.
    Turn offthe product.
     2.
    Liftupthe scanner unitand check tosee ifthe print head isin the farright position (thehome
     position).
    Ifnot, turn onthe product, waitforthe print head tomove, thenturntheproduct offagain.
     3.
    Secure theinkcartridge holdertothe case withtape.
     Caution:
    Donot place tapeonthe white flatcable inside theproduct; otherwise, youmay damage
     your
    product.
     4.
    Lower thescanner unit.
     5.
    Remove allthe paper fromtheproduct.
     6.
    Unplug thepower cable.
     7.
    Disconnect anyconnected cables.
     8.
    Close theoutput trayand paper support.

    9.
    Lower thecontrol panelbysqueezing therelease barand gently pushing thepanel down.
     Caution:
    Donot lower thecontrol panelwithout firstsqueezing therelease baroryou may damage
     your
    product.
     10.
    Place theproduct inits original packing materials, ifpossible, oruse equivalent materialswith
     cushioning
    aroundtheproduct.
     Keep
    theproduct levelduring transportation. Besure toremove thetape from theinkcartridge holder
     before
    turning onyour product. Ifprint quality hasdeclined whenyouprint again, cleanandalign the
     print
    head.
