Removing and Replacing Parts 4-57 /96%RDUG This section provides the removal procedure for the LVDS board. )LJXUH/96%RDUG5HPRYDO To remove the LVDS board, follow these steps (see Figure 4-38): 1. Remove the 4-mm screw securing the LVDS board. 2. Gently pull the LVDS board off of connectors JP9 and JP8 on the system board. Do not rock the board to remove it, because this may damage the connectors. 4-mm screw LVDS board
4-58HOO,QVSLURQ6HUYLFH0DQXDO 3URFHVVRU%RDUGDQG0HPRU\0RGXOH This section provides the removal procedure for the processor board and memory module. The processor board and memory module can be removed without removing the palmrest assembly. )LJXUH3URFHVVRU%RDUGDQG0HPRU\0RGXOH5HPRYDO This procedure assumes that you have removed the heat exchanger/fan. To remove the processor board and memory module, follow these steps (see Figure 4-39): 1. Remove the three 5-mm screws securing the processor board to the sys- tem board. 2. Gently pull the processor board off of connector JP15 on the system board. Do not rock the board to remove it, because this may damage the connectors. 3. Lift the SODIMM heat sink off of the memory module. 4. Remove the memory module. Carefully spread the inner metal tabs of the memory module socket to dis- engage the module from the socket. The module should pop up slightly. Then pull the memory module out of the socket. 5-mm screws (3) processor board memory module SODIMM heat sink
Removing and Replacing Parts 4-59 5. Inspect the thermal pad beneath the memory module to see if it needs replacement. When reinstalling the SODIMM heat sink, be careful to align the hole in the SODIMM heat sink over the metal clip soldered to the system board. When reinstalling the processor board, align the board with the notch on the system board connector. Press down on the left side of the board over the sys- tem board connector. This is the best spot to apply pressure to seat the processor correctly on connector JP15.
4-60HOO,QVSLURQ6HUYLFH0DQXDO +LQJH6DGGOHV This section provides the removal procedure for the hinge saddles. DG GOH )LJXUH+LQJH6DGGOH5HPRYDO This procedure assumes that you have removed the PC Card heat sink and LVDS board. To remove the hinge saddles, follow these steps (see Figure 4-40): 1. Remove the four 4-mm screws from the top of the left and right hinge saddles. 2. Remove the four 4-mm screws from the back of the computer above the ports. 3. Remove the 10-mm screw and 20-mm screw from the right hinge saddle and remove the saddle. 4. Remove the 10-mm screw and 20-mm screw from the left hinge saddle and remove the saddle. 5. Disconnect the LED cable from connector J6 on the system board. 6.
