This chapter provides procedures for removing and replacing components and 
assemblies. Unless other wise noted, each of the procedures in this chapter 
assumes the following:

Precautionary measures include disconnecting the computer from the AC 
adapter and port replicator and removing the main battery, PC Cards, hard-disk 
drive, memory module cover, video card cover, memory modules, and devices 
in the options bay.
To take these precautionary measures, follow these steps:
1. Determine the power state of the computer.
If the system is on, go to step 2.
If you are unsure whether the system is on, shut down and restart the sys-
tem, and then go...

5. Remove the main battery from the battery compartment.    
Unlock the latch lock on the bottom of the computer by flipping it toward 
the back of the computer (see Figure 4-5). Slide the latch release in the 
direction of the arrow. Keep holding the latch release with one hand while 
pulling the battery out of the compartment with the other.

6. Remove any PC Cards.   
To remove a type I or type II PC Card from the top connector (see 
Figure 4-6), press the top eject button twice. To remove a type 1 or type II 
PC Card from the bottom connector, press the bottom eject button twice. 
To remove a type III card, press the bottom eject button twice. 
NOTE: The first time you press an eject button, the eject button itself pops 
out. The second time you press the eject button, the PC Card is released

8. Remove the video card and memory module covers.
Slide the video card cover as far as it will go in the direction of the arrow, 
and then remove the cover (see Figure 4-8). Remove the memory module 
cover in the same way.
