    Using a Computer Modem
    If you want to use your computer modem for faxing or for a dial-up internet 
    connection, connect the computer modem directly to the back of your printer 
    with the TAD as shown above.
    • Set your printer to the Ans/FAX Mode and set Auto Rec. Ans/FAX 
    to specify the time for the TAD.
    • Turn off the computer modems fax-receive feature.
    • Do not use the computer modem if your printer is sending or receiving a 
    fax.
    • Follow the instructions provided with your computer modem and fax 
    application to fax via the computer modem.
    Printing a Report
    The following reports may be useful when using fax:
    Address Book
    This list shows all the addresses currently stored in the memory of the printer 
    as Address Book information.
    Fax Activity
    This report shows information about the faxes you recently received or sent. 
    Protocol Monitor
    This report shows information about the faxes you recently received or sent.

    1Press the   (Menu) button.
    2Press the   button until System is highlighted, and then press the   
    button.
    3Press the   button until Report/List is highlighted, and then press 
    the  button.
    4Press the   button until the report or list you want to print is 
    highlighted, and then press the   button.
    The selected report or list is printed.
    Changing Setting Options
    1Press the   (Menu) button.
    2Press the   button until System is highlighted, and then press the   
    button.
    3Ensure that Defaults Settings is highlighted, and then press the 
     button.
    4Press the   button until Fax Defaults is highlighted, and then press 
    the  button.
    5Press the   button until the desired menu item is highlighted, and then 
    press the   button.
    6Press the   or   button until the desired setting is highlighted or enter 
    the value using the numeric keypad, and then press the   button.
    7Repeat steps 5 and 6, as needed.
    8To return to the previous screen, press the   (Back) button.

    Understanding the Tool Box Menus
    The Tool Box allows you to view or specify the system settings. You can also 
    diagnose the system settings by using the Tool Box.
    The Tool Box consists of the Printer Settings Report, Printer Maintenance, 
    and Diagnosis tabs.
     NOTE: The Password dialog box appears the first time you try to change settings 
    on ToolBox when Panel Lock is set on the printer. In this case, enter the password 
    you specified, and click OK to apply the settings.
     
    NOTE: For how to start Tool Box, see Understanding Your Printer Software 
    (Windows Only) on page 409.
    Printer Settings Report
    The Printer Settings Report tab contains the Printer Information, Menu 
    Settings, Reports, TCP/IP Settings, Tray Settings, Defaults Settings, and Fax 
    Settings pages.
     NOTE: Values marked by an asterisk (*) are the factory default menu settings.
    Printer Information
    Purpose:
    To display the information of your printer. 
    Va l u e s :
    Dell Service Tag NumberDisplays Dell’s service tag number.
    Express Service CodeDisplays the express service code of the printer.
    Printer Serial NumberDisplays the serial number of the printer.
    Printer TypeDisplays the type of the printer. Color Laser is 
    displayed normally.
    Asset Tag NumberDisplays the asset tag of the printer.
    Memory CapacityDisplays the memory capacity.

    Menu Settings
    Purpose:
    To display the current settings of your printer.
    Va l u e s :
    Processor SpeedDisplays the processing speed.
    Firmware VersionDisplays the version of the controller.
    Network Firmware VersionDisplays the NIC version.
    MCU Firmware VersionDisplays the version of the Machine Control Unit 
    (MCU) firmware.
    Printing Speed (Color)Displays the speed for color printing.
    Printing Speed 
    (Monochrome)Displays the speed for monochrome printing.
    System Settings SleepDisplays the time taken by the 
    printer before it enters Sleep mode 
    after it finishes a job.
    Deep SleepDisplays the time taken by the 
    printer before it enters Deep Sleep 
    mode after it goes into Sleep 
    mode.
    Auto ResetDisplays the time taken by the 
    printer before it automatically 
    resets the settings for Copy, Scan, 
    or Fax on the operator panel to the 
    defaults when no additional 
    settings are made.
    Panel Select ToneDisplays the volume of the tone 
    that is emitted when the operator 
    panel input is correct. Off 
    indicates that the tone is disabled.
    Panel Alert ToneDisplays the volume of the tone 
    that is emitted when the operator 
    panel input is incorrect. Off 
    indicates that the tone is disabled.

    Job ToneDisplays the volume of the tone 
    that is emitted when a job is 
    complete. Off indicates that the 
    tone is disabled.
    Alert ToneDisplays the volume of the tone 
    that is emitted when a problem 
    occurs. Off indicates that the tone 
    is disabled.
    Out of Paper ToneDisplays the volume of the tone 
    that is emitted when the printer 
    runs out of paper. Off indicates 
    that the tone is disabled.
    Auto Clear Alert ToneDisplays the volume of the tone 
    that is emitted 5 seconds before 
    the printer performs auto clear. 
    Off indicates that the tone is 
    disabled.
    All TonesDisplays the volume of all the alert 
    tones. Off indicates that all the 
    tones are disabled.
    Job Time-OutDisplays the amount of time that 
    the printer waits for data to arrive 
    from the computer.
    Fa ul t Ti me -Ou tDisplays the time taken by the 
    printer before it cancels jobs that 
    stop abnormally.
    Panel LanguageDisplays the language used on the 
    operator panel.
    Auto Log Print
    *1Displays whether to automatically 
    print a job history report after 
    every 20 jobs.
    mm/inchDisplays the measurement unit 
    used after the numeric value on

    Date & Time Date FormatDisplays the default date format.
    Time FormatDisplays the default time format; 
    24H or 12H.
    Time ZoneDisplays the default time zone.
    Set DateDisplays the date setting.

    paper.
    LabelDisplays the paper density of 
    labels.
    Adjust BTR PlainDisplays the voltage setting of the 
    transfer roller for plain paper.

    transfer roller for thick plain paper.
    RecycledDisplays the voltage setting of the 
    transfer roller for recycled paper.
    CoversDisplays the voltage setting of the

    Reports
    Purpose:
    To print the settings and history information of your printer. 
    The reports are printed in the paper size specified in system settings. The 
    default is A4 or Letter.
    Va l u e s :
    Adjust Fuser PlainDisplays the temperature setting 
    of the fuser for plain paper.
    Plain ThickDisplays the temperature setting 
    of the fuser for thick plain paper.
    RecycledDisplays the temperature setting 
    of the fuser for recycled paper.
    CoversDisplays the temperature setting 
    of the fuser for cover paper.
    CoatedDisplays the temperature setting 
    of the fuser for coated paper.
    EnvelopeDisplays the temperature setting 
    of the fuser for envelopes.
    LabelDisplays the temperature setting 
    of the fuser for labels.
    Auto Registration 
    AdjustmentDisplays whether to automatically adjust color registration.
    Adjust AltitudeDisplays the altitude of the location where the printer is installed.
    Non-Dell TonerDisplays whether to use toner cartridge of another manufacturer.
    BTR Refresh 
    ModeDisplays whether to execute counter measures for 
    curling/separating discharge of the paper.

    TCP/IP Settings
    Purpose:
    To display the current settings of TCP/IP (Transmission Control 
    Protocol/Internet Protocol) protocol.
    Va l u e s :
    Tray Settings
    Purpose:
    To display the paper size and type of paper loaded in the Multipurpose Feeder 
    (MPF).
    Va l u e s :
    System SettingsClick to print a detailed list of the system settings.
    Panel SettingsClick to print a detailed list of the panel settings.
    Job HistoryClick to print the completed jobs history.
    Error HistoryClick to print the error history.
    Demo PageClick to print the Demo Page.
    Address Book ListClick to print the list of Personal Address, Fax Group, 
    and E-mail Group stored as Address Book.
    IP Address ModeDisplays the method for acquiring the IP address.
    IP AddressDisplays the IP address of your printer.
    Subnet MaskDisplays the subnet mask.
    Gateway AddressDisplays the gateway address.
    Paper TypeDisplays the paper type setting of the MPF.
    Pa p e r  S i z eDisplays the paper size setting of the MPF.
    Custom Size - YDisplays the length of custom size paper loaded in the
