    Ins\balla\bion
    This secti\bn will walk y\bu thr\bugh the installati\bn pr\bcess. Placement \bf the r\buter is \fery imp\brtant. D\b n\bt place the r\buter
in an encl\bsed area such as a cl\bset, cabinet, \br in the attic \br garage.
    • Please c\bnfigure the r\buter with the c\bmputer that was last c\bnnected directly t\b y\bur m\bdem.

    • Y\bu can \bnly use the Ethernet p\brt \bn y\bur m\bdem. If y\bu were using the USB c\bnnecti\bn bef\bre using the r\buter,
then y\bu must turn \bff y\bur m\bdem, disc\bnnect the USB cable and c\bnnect an Ethernet cable t\b the Internet p\brt
    \bn the r\buter, and then turn the m\bdem back \bn. In s\bme cases, y\bu may need t\b call y\bur ISP t\b change c\bnnecti\bn
    types (USB t\b Ethernet).
    • If y\bu ha\fe DSL and are c\bnnecting \fia PPP\bE, make sure y\bu disable \br uninstall any PPP\bE s\bftware such as WinP\bet,
    Br\badjump, \br Enternet 300 fr\bm y\bur c\bmputer \br y\bu will n\bt be able t\b c\bnnect t\b the Internet.

    Wireless Ins\balla\bion \fonsidera\bions
    The D-Link wireless r\buter lets y\bu access y\bur netw\brk using a wireless c\bnnecti\bn fr\bm \firtually anywhere within the
\bperating range \bf y\bur wireless netw\brk. Keep in mind, h\bwe\fer, that the number, thickness and l\bcati\bn \bf walls, ceilings,
\br \bther \bbjects that the wireless signals must pass thr\bugh, may limit the range. Typical ranges \fary depending \bn the types
    \bf materials and backgr\bund RF (radi\b frequency) n\bise in y\bur h\bme \br business. The key t\b maximizing wireless range is t\b
    f\bll\bw these basic guide\llines:
    1. Keep the number \bf walls and ceilings between the D-Link r\buter and \bther netw\brk de\fices t\b a minimum -
    each wall \br ceiling can reduce y\bur adapter’s range fr\bm 3-90 feet (1-30 meters.) P\bsiti\bn y\bur de\fices s\b that
the number \bf walls \br ceilings is minimized.
    2. Be aware \bf the direct line between netw\brk de\fices. A wall that is 1.5 feet thick (.5 meters), at a 45-degree angle
    appears t\b be alm\bst 3 feet (1 meter) thick. At a 2-degree angle it l\b\bks \b\fer 42 feet (14 meters) thick! P\bsiti\bn
    de\fices s\b that the signal will tra\fel straight thr\bugh a wall \br ceiling (instead \bf at an angle) f\br better recepti\bn.
    3. Building Materials make a difference. A s\blid metal d\b\br \br aluminum studs may ha\fe a negati\fe effect \bn range.
    Try t\b p\bsiti\bn access p\bints, wireless r\buters, and c\bmputers s\b that the signal passes thr\bugh drywall \br \bpen
d\b\brways. Materials and \bbjects such as glass, steel, metal, walls with insulati\bn, water (fish tanks), mirr\brs, file
cabinets, brick, and c\bncrete will degrade y\bur wireless signal.
    4. Keep y\bur pr\bduct away (at least 3-6 feet \br 1-2 meters) fr\bm electrical de\fices \br appliances that generate RF
    n\bise.
    5. If y\bu are using 2.4GHz c\brdless ph\bnes \br X-10 (wireless pr\bducts such as ceiling fans, lights, and h\bme security
    systems), y\bur wireless c\bnnecti\bn may degrade dramatically \br dr\bp c\bmpletely. Make sure y\bur 2.4GHz ph\bne
base is as far away fr\bm y\bur wireless de\fices as p\bssible. The base transmits a signal e\fen if the ph\bne in n\bt
    in use.

Note: It is strongly recommended to replace your existing router with the DI\b-626L instead of using both. If your modem is a combo
router, you may want to contact your ISP or manufacturer’s user guide to put the router into Bridge mode, which will ‘turn off ’ the
    router (NAT ) functions.
    If y\bu are c\bnnecting the DIR-626L r\buter t\b an existing r\buter t\b use as a wireless access p\bint and/\br switch, y\bu will ha\fe
    t\b d\b the f\bll\bwing t\b the DIR-626L bef\bre c\bnnecting it t\b y\bur netw\brk:
    • Disable UPnP
    ™
    • Disable DHCP
    • Change the LAN IP address t\b an a\failable address \bn y\bur netw\brk. The LAN p\brts \bn the r\buter cann\bt accept
    a DHCP address fr\bm y\bur \bther r\buter.
    T\b c\bnnect t\b an\bther r\buter, please f\bll\bw the steps bel\bw:
    1. Plug the p\bwer int\b the r\buter. C\bnnect \bne \bf y\bur c\bmputers t\b the r\buter (LAN p\brt) using an Ethernet cable. Make sure
y\bur IP address \bn the c\bmputer is 192.168.0.xxx (where xxx is between 2 and 254). Please see the Networking.Basics
    secti\bn f\br m\bre inf\brmati\bn. If y\bu need t\b change the settings, write d\bwn y\bur existing settings bef\bre making any
    changes. In m\bst cases, y\bur c\bmputer sh\buld be set t\b recei\fe an IP address aut\bmatically in which case y\bu will n\bt ha\fe
    t\b d\b anything t\b y\bur c\bmputer.
    2. Open a web br\bwser, enter http://d\binkrouter.\boca\b and press Enter. When the l\bgin wind\bw appears, set the user name
    t\b Admin and lea\fe the passw\brd b\bx empty. Click Log.In t\b c\bntinue.
