    Beforestarting,makesurethattheenginehassuffi- 
    cientoil.Thesnowthrowerengineisequippedwitha 
    120voltA.C.electricstarterandrecoilstarter.The 
    electricstarterisequippedwithathree-wirepower 
    cordandplugandisdesignedtooperateon120volt 
    AChouseholdcurrent.Followallinstructionscarefully. 
    ColdStart 
    NOTE:Iftheunitshowsanysignofmotion(driveor 
    augers)withtheclutchgripsdisengaged,shutthe 
    engineoffimmediately.Readjustasinstructedinthe 
    FinalAdjustmentssectionoftheAssembly 
    Instructions. 
    WARNING:Theelectricstartermustbe  properlygroundedatalltimestoavoidthe 
    possibilityofelectricshockwhichmaybe 
    injurioustotheoperator. 
    1.Determinewhetheryourhousewiringisathree- 
    wiregroundedsystem.Askalicensedelectricianif 
    youarenotcertain. 
    _ARNING:Ifyourhousewiringsystemisnot  athree-wiregroundedsystem,donotusethis 
    electricstarterunderanyconditions. 
    •Ifyourhousewiringsystemisgroundedanda 
    three-holereceptacleisnotavailableatthepoint 
    thesnowthrowerstarterwillnormallybeused,one 
    shouldbeinstalledbyalicensedelectrician. 
    •Whenconnectingthepowercord,alwaysconnect 
    cordtostarteronenginefirst,thenplugtheother 
    endintoathree-holegroundedreceptacle. 
    •Whendisconnectingthepowercord,alwaysunplug 
    theendfromthethree-hole,groundedreceptacle 
    first. 
    2.Attachsparkplugwiretosparkplug. 
    3.Turnfuelvalveon,ifsoequipped. 
    4.Makesurethattheaugeranddrivecontrolsarein 
    thedisengaged(up)position. 
    5.MovethrottlecontrollevertoFASTposition. 
    6.Pushkeyintotheignitionslotandsnapinplace.Do 
    notturnkey. 
    7.Connectpowercordtoswitchboxontheengine. 
    8.Plugtheotherendofthepowercordintoathree- 
    hole,grounded120voltA.C.receptacle. 
    9.RotatechokeknobtoFULLchokeposition(cold 
    enginestart).Ifengineiswarm,placechokeinOFF 
    positioninsteadofFULL. 
    10.Pushtheprimerthreetimes. 11.Pushdownonthestarterbuttonuntiltheengine 
    starts.Donotcrankformorethan10secondsata 
    time.Thiselectricstarteristhermallyprotected.If 
    overheated,itwillstopautomaticallyandcanbe 
    restartedonlywhenithascooledtoasafe 
    temperature(awaitof5-10minutesisrequired). 
    12.Whentheenginestarts,releasethestarterbutton 
    andslowlyrotatethechoketoOFFposition.Ifthe 
    enginefalters,rotatethechoketoFULLandthen 
    graduallytoOFF. 
    13.Disconnectthepowercordfromthereceptaclefirst 
    andthenfromtheswitchboxontheengine. 
    14.Allowtheenginetowarmupforafewminutes 
    becausetheenginewillnotdevelopfullpoweruntil 
    itreachesoperatingtemperature.Operatethe 
    engineatfullthrottle(FAST)whenthrowingsnow. 
    RecoilStarter 
    Makesurethattheenginehassufficientoilandthe 
    augerdriveandthedrivecontrolleversarereleased. 
    ColdStart 
    1.MovethrottlecontroltoFASTposition. 
    2.Turnfuelvalveon,ifsoequipped. 
    3.Pushkeyintotheignitionslotandsnapinplace.Do 
    notturnkey. 
    4.RotatechokecontroltoFULLchokeposition. 
    5.Pushtheprimerbuttonwhilecoveringtheventhole. 
    Removeyourfingerfromtheprimerbetweenprimes. 
    Donotprimeiftemperatureisabove500F;prime 
    twotimesbetween50°Fand150F;andprimefour 
    timesbelow150F. 
    6.Pullthestarterhandlerapidly.Donotallowthe 
    handletosnapback,butallowittorewindslowly 
    whilekeepingafirmholdonthestarterhandle. 
    7.Astheenginewarmsup,rotatethechokeknob 
    slowlytoOFFposition.Iftheenginefalters,return 
    toFULLchoke,thenslowlymovetoOFFchoke 
    position. 
    8.Allowtheenginetowarmupforafewminutes 
    becausetheenginewillnotdevelopfullpoweruntil 
    itreachesoperatingtemperature. 
    9.Operatetheengineatfullthrottle(FAST)when 
    throwingsnow. 
    WarmStart 
    1.Ifrestartingawarmengineafteratemporaryshut 
    down,rotatechoketoOFFinsteadofFULLanddo 
    notprime.Pullstarterhandleasinstructedearlier. 
    FrozenRecoilStarter 
    IfthestarterisfroFenandwillnotturntheengine, 
    proceedasfollows: 
    1.Pullasmuchropeoutofthestarteraspossible. 
    2.Releasethestarterhandleandletitsnapback 
    againstthestarter.

    3.Iftheenginestillfailstostart,repeatthefirsttwo 
    steps.Ifcontinuedattemptsdonotfreestarter, 
    followtheelectricstarterprocedurestostart. 
    4.Avoidfreezingoftherecoilstarterbyreferringto

    BeforeStopping 
    1.Runengineforafewminutestohelpdryoffany 
    moistureonengine. 
    2.Avoidfreezingofthestarterbyfollowingthese 
    stepsbeforestoppingthesnowthrower: 
    RecoilStarter 
    a.Withtheenginerunning,pullthestarterrope 
    witharapid,continuousfullarmstrokethree 
    orfourtimes. 
    ElectricStarter 
    a.Connectpowercordtoswitchbox,thento 
    120VoltACreceptacle. 
    b.Whiletheengineisrunning,pushthestarter 
    buttonandspinthestarterforseveral 
    seconds. 
    c.Disconnectpowercordfromthereceptacle 
    first,thenfromthesnowthrower. 
    NOTE:Theunusualsoundfrompullingthestarterrope 
    incaseoftherecoilstarter,orfromspinningthestarter 
    incaseoftheelectricstarter,willnotharmtheengine. 
    ToStopTheSnowThrower 
    1.Tostopthewheels,releasethedrivecontrolonthe 
    snowthrower. 
    2.Tostopthrowingsnow,releaseaugercontrol. 
    3.Tostopengine,pushthrottlecontrollevertostop 
    oroffandremoveignitionkey(Donotturnkey) 
    topreventunauthorizeduseofequipment. 
    ToEngageDrive 
    1.Withtheenginerunningneartopspeed,moveshift 
    levertooneofsixFORWARDpositionsortwo 
    REVERSEpositions.Selectaspeedappropriate 
    forthesnowconditionsthatexist.Useslower 
    speedsuntilyouarefamiliarwiththeprocess. 
    2.Squeezedrivecontrolagainsttherighthandleand 
    thesnowthrowerwillmove.Releaseitandthe 
    drivemotionwillstop. 
    ToEngageAugers 
    1.Toengageaugersandstartsnowthrowing, 
    squeezethelefthandaugercontrolagainsttheleft 
    handle.Releasetostopaugers. 
    2.Whiletheaugercontrolisengaged,squeezethe 
    drivecontroltomove,releasetostop.Donotshift 
    speedswhilethedriveisengaged. NOTE:Thissameleveralsolocksaugercontrolsoyou 
    canturnthechutedirectionalcontrolwithout 
    interruptingthesnowthrowingprocess. 
    3.Releasetheaugercontrol;theinterlockmechanism 
    shouldkeeptheaugercontrolengageduntilthe 
    drivecontrolisreleased. 
    4.Releasethedrivecontroltostopboththeaugers 
    andthewheeldrive.Tostoptheauger,bothlevers 
    mustbereleased. 
    ToThrowSnow 
    CAUTION:Checktheareatobeclearedforforeign 
    objects.Remove,ifany. 
    1.Starttheenginefollowingstartinginstructions. 
    2.Rotatethedischargechutetothedesiredposition, 
    (awayfrombystandersand/orbuildings)bymoving 
    thechutecontrol. 
    3.Selectthespeedaccordingtosnowcondition. 
    CAUTION:Nevermovetheshiftleverwithoutfirst 
    releasingthedrivecontrol. 
    4.Engagetheaugeranddrivecontrolsfollowing 
    instructionsabove. 
    5.Theinterlockfeaturewillallowyoutoremoveyour 
    lefthandfromtheaugercontrol. 
    6.Whenclearingthefirstpassthroughthesnow, 
    controlspeedofsnowthroweraccordingtothe 
    depthandconditionofsnow. 
    7.Toturntheunitleftorright,squeezetherespective 
    wheelsteeringcontrol.SeeFigure13. 
    8.Oneachsucceedingpass,readjustthechutetothe 
    desiredpositionandslightlyoverlappreviouspath. 
    9.Aftertheareaiscleared,stopthesnowthrower 
    followinginstructionsgivenbelow. 
    OperatingTips 
    NOTE:Allowtheenginetowarmupforafewminutes 
    astheenginewillnotdevelopfullpoweruntilitreaches 
    operatingtemperature. 
    _ARNING:Thetemperatureofmufflerand 
    surroundingareasmayexceed150°F.Avoid 
    theseareas. 
    •Formostefficientsnowremoval,removesnow 
    immediatelyafteritfalls. 
    •Dischargesnowdownwindwheneverpossible. 
    Slightlyoverlapeachpreviousswath. 
    •Settheskidshoes1/4belowthescraperbarfor 
    normalusage.Theskidshoesmaybeadjusted 
    upwardforhard-packedsnow.

    2.Stoptheenginebymovingthethrottletothestop

    3.Removetheclean-outtoolfromthemountingclip.
