Operation 1.Donotputhandsorfeetnearrotatingparts,intheauger/ impellerhousingordischargechute.Contactwith rotatingpartscanamputatehandsandfeet. 2.Theauger/impellerclutchleverisasafetydevice.Never bypassitsoperation.Doingsomakesthemachine unsafeandmaycausepersonalinjury. 3.Theclutchleversmustoperateeasilyinbothdirections andautomaticallyreturntothedisengagedpositionwhen released. 4.Neveroperatewithamissingordamageddischarge chute.Keepallsafetydevicesinplaceandworking. 5.Neverrunanengineindoorsorinapoorlyventilated area.Engineexhaustcontainscarbonmonoxide,an odorlessanddeadlygas. 6.Donotoperatemachinewhileundertheinfluenceof alcoholordrugs.
7.Mufflerandenginebecomehotandcancauseaburn.Do nottouch. 8.Exerciseextremecautionwhenoperatingonorcrossing gravelsurfaces.Stayalertforhiddenhazardsortraffic. 9.Exercisecautionwhenchangingdirectionandwhile operatingonslopes. 10.Planyoursnow-throwingpatterntoavoiddischarge towardswindows,walls,carsetc.Thus,avoiding possiblepropertydamageorpersonalinjurycausedbya ricochet. 11.Neverdirectdischargeatchildren,bystandersandpets orallowanyoneinfrontofthemachine. 12.Donotoverloadmachinecapacitybyattemptingtoclear snowattoofastofarate. 13.Neveroperatethismachinewithoutgoodvisibilityor light.Alwaysbesureofyourfootingandkeepafirmhold onthehandles.Walk,neverrun. 14.Disengagepowertotheauger/impellerwhen transportingornotinuse. 15.Neveroperatemachineathightransportspeedson slipperysurfaces.Lookdownandbehindandusecare wheninreverse. 16.Ifthemachineshouldstarttovibrateabnormally,stopthe engine,disconnectthesparkplugwireandgroundit againsttheengine.Inspectthoroughlyfordamage. Repairanydamagebeforestartingandoperating. 17.Disengageallclutchleversandstopenginebeforeyou leavetheoperatingposition(behindthehandles).Wait untiltheauger/impellercomestoacompletestopbefore uncloggingthedischargechute,makingany adjustments,orinspections. 18.Neverputyourhandinthedischargeorcollector openings.Alwaysusetheclean-outtoolprovidedto unclogthedischargeopening.Donotunclogdischarge chutewhileengineisrunning.Beforeunclogging,shutoff engineandremainbehindhandlesuntilallmovingparts havestoppedcompletely. 19.Useonlyattachmentsandaccessoriesapprovedbythe manufacturer(e.g.wheelweights,tirechains,cabsetc.). 20.Ifsituationsoccurwhicharenotcoveredinthismanual, usecareandgoodjudgment.ContactSearsservice centerforassistance. Maintenance&Storage 1.Nevertamperwithsafetydevices.Checktheirproper operationregularly.Refertothemaintenanceand adjustmentsectionsofthismanual. 2.Beforecleaning,repairing,orinspectingmachine disengageallclutchleversandstopengine.Waituntilthe auger/impellercometoacompletestop.Disconnectthe sparkplugwireandgroundagainsttheenginetoprevent unintendedstarting. 3.Checkboltsandscrewsforpropertightnessatfrequent intervalstokeepthemachineinsafeworkingcondition. AugerControlTest 1.Tochecktheadjustmentoftheaugercontrol,push forwardthelefthandcontroluntiltherubber bumperiscompressed.Thereshouldbeslackin thecable. 2.Releasethecontrol.Thecableshouldbestraight. Makecertainyoucandepresstheaugercontrol againstthelefthandlecompletely. ,_WARNING:Donotover-tightenthecable. Over-tighteningmaypreventtheaugerfrom disengagingandcompromisethesafetyofthe snowthrower. 3.Inawell-ventilatedarea,startthesnowthrower engineasinstructedearlierinthissectionunderthe headingStartingEngine.Makesurethethrottleisset intheFASTposition. 4.Whilestandingintheoperatorsposition(behind thesnowthrower)engagetheauger. 5.Allowtheaugertoremainengagedfor approximatelyten(10)secondsbeforereleasing theaugercontrol.Repeatthisseveraltimes. 6.WiththeenginerunningintheFASTpositionand theaugercontrolinthedisengagedupposition, walktothefrontofthemachine. 7.Confirmthattheaugerhascompletelystopped rotatingandshowsNOsignsofmotion. IMPORTANT:IftheaugershowsANYsignsofrotating, immediatelyreturntotheoperatorspositionandshut offtheengine.Waitforallmovingpartstostopbefore readjustingtheaugercontrolcable. 8.Ifadjustmentisnecessary,loosenthejamnutand threadthecablein(forlessslack)orout(formore slack).SeeFigure10. 9.Rechecktheadjustment.Tightenjamnutagainst thecablewhencorrectadjustmentisreached. Auger- Cable Nut Figure10 DriveControl&ShiftLever 1.Tipthesnowthrowerforwardsothatitrestsonthe augerhousing. 2.Movetheshiftleverallthewayforwardtothesixth (6)position. 3.Withthedrivecontrolreleased,spinthesnow throwerwheelsbyhand.Thewheelsshouldturn; however,youmayfeelsomeresistance. 4.Engagethedrivecontrol.Thewheelsshouldno longerturn. 5.Nowreleasethedrivecontrolandspinthewheels again. 6.Movetheshiftleverbacktothefastreverse positionandthenallthewayforwardagain.There shouldbenoresistanceintheshiftleverandthe wheelsshouldturn. 7.Ifyoufaceresistancewhenmovingtheshiftlever orthewheelsstopwhentheyshouldnot,loosen thejamnutonthedrivecableandunthreadthe cableoneturn. 8.Ifthewheelscanstillbeturnedwhenyouengage thedrivecontrol,loosenthejamnutonthedrive cableandthreadthecableinoneturn.Recheckthe adjustmentandrepeatifneeded. 9.Tightenthejamnuttosecurethecablewhen correctadjustmentisreached.

ShearPinStorage Holesarelocatedintheplasticdashpanelfor convenientshearpinstorage.SeeFigure11. / Figure11 SkidShoe LocatetheshaveplateandtheskidshoesinFigure13 onpage9.Thespacebetweenthisshaveplateand thegroundcanbeadjusted.Forclosesnowremoval, placeskidshoesinthelowposition.Usemiddleor highpositionwhenareatobeclearedisuneven. Four-WayChuteControlTM Thisfour-waycontrolleverismeanttocontrolthe directionanddistanceofsnowdischargefromthe chute.Pressthebuttonontheknobandturnitleftor righttorotatethechutetothedirectionthatsnowwillbe thrown.Tilttheleverforwardtodecreasethedistance snowwillbethrown,andbackwardstoincrease distance. ShiftLever Theshiftleverislocatedinthecenter6 ofthehandlepanelandisusedto_ determinegroundspeedanddirection4 oftravel.Itcanbemovedintoanyof3 eightpositions.2 IMPORTANT:Alwaysreleasedrive_r_ controlbeforechangingspeeds.
