ASSEMBLYSTEP5 TightentheChainandCable •Spintheinnernutandlockwasherdownthe threadedshaft,awayfromthetrolley. •Totightenthechain,turnouternutinthedirection shown.Asyouturnthenut,keepthechain fromtwisting, •Whenthechainisapproximately1/2(13mm) abovethebaseoftherailatitsmidpoint,re-tighten theinnernuttosecuretheadjustment. Sprocketnoisecanresultifchainiseithertoo looseortootight. INSTALLATIONSTEP5 HangtheOpener Threerepresentativeinstallationsareshown.Yours maybedifferent.Hangingbracketsshouldbeangled (Figure1)toproviderigidsupport.Onfinished ceilings(Figure2andFigure3),attachasturdy metalbrackettostructuralsupportsbeforeinstalling theopener.Thisbracketandfasteninghardwareare notprovided. 1.Measurethedistancefromeachsideofthemotor unittothestructuralsupport. 2.Cutbothpiecesofthehangingbrackettorequired lengths. 3.Drill3/16pilotholesinthestructuralsupports. 4.Attachoneendofeachbrackettoasupportwith 5/16-18xl-7/8lagscrews. 5.Fastentheopenertothehangingbracketswith 5/16-18x7/8hexbolts,lockwashersandnuts. 6.Checktomakesuretherailiscenteredoverthe door(orinlinewiththeheaderbracketifthe bracketisnotcenteredabovethedoor). 7.Removethe2x4.Operatethedoormanually.Ifthe doorhitstherail,raisetheheaderbracket. INSTALLATIONSTEP9 ElectricalRequirements Toavoidinstallationdifficulties,donotrunthe openeratthistime. Toreducetheriskofelectricshock,yourgaragedoor openerhasagroundingtypeplugwithathird groundingpin.Thisplugwillonlyfitintoagrounding typeoutlet.Iftheplugdoesntfitintotheoutletyou have,contactaqualifiedelectriciantoinstallthe properoutlet. WRONG Ifpermanentwiringisrequiredbyyourlocal code,refertothefollowingprocedure. Tomakeapermanentconnectionthroughthe7/8 holeinthetopofthemotorunit: •Removethemotorunitcoverscrewsandsetthe coveraside. •Removetheattached3-prongcord. •Connecttheblack(line)wiretothescrewonthe brassterminal;thewhite(neutral)wiretothe screwonthesilverterminal;andthegroundwire tothegreengroundscrew.Theopenermustbe grounded. •Reinstallthecover. INSTALLATIONSTEP10 InstallTheProtectorSystem® Thesafetyreversingsensormustbeconnected andalignedcorrectlybeforethegaragedoor openerwillmoveinthedowndirection, IMPORTANTINFORMATIONABOUT THESAFETYREVERSINGSENSOR Whenproperlyconnectedandaligned,thesensor willdetectanobstacleinthepathofitselectronic beam.Thesendingeye(withangreenindicatorlight) transmitsaninvisiblelightbeamtothereceivingeye (withagreenindicatorlight).Ifanobstructionbreaks thelightbeamwhilethedoorisclosing,thedoorwill stopandreversetofullopenposition,andthe openerlightswillflash10times. Theunitsmustbeinstalledinsidethegaragesothat thesendingandreceivingeyesfaceeachother acrossthedoor,nomorethan6(15cm)abovethe floor.Eithercanbeinstalledontheleftorrightofthe dooraslongasthesunnevershinesdirectlyintothe receivingeyelens. Themountingbracketsaredesignedtoclipontothe trackofsectionalgaragedoorswithoutadditional hardware. Besurepowerisnotconnectedtothegaragedoor openerBEFOREinstallingthesafetyreversingsensor. TopreventSERIOUSINJURYorDEATHfromaclosing garagedoor: •Correctlyconnectandalignthesafetyreversing sensor.ThisrequiredsafetydeviceMUSTNOTbe disabled. •InstallthesafetyreversingsensorsobeamisNO HIGHERthan6(15cm)abovegaragefloor. Ifitisnecessarytomounttheunitsonthewall,the bracketsmustbesecurelyfastenedtoasolid surfacesuchasthewallframing.Extensionbrackets (seeaccessories)areavailableifneeded.If installinginmasonryconstruction,addapieceof woodateachlocationtoavoiddrillingextraholesin masonryifrepositioningisnecessary.
