    Ho\b to start Cisco Connect
    When  you  \fun  the  setup  CD,  Cis\bo  Conne\bt  (you\f  \foute\f’s  setup  softwa\fe)  is 
    automati\bally  installed  onto  you\f  \bompute\f  You  \ban  then  use  Cis\bo  Conne\bt 
    to  easily  manage  you\f  \foute\f   To  install  Cis\bo  Conne\bt  on  anothe\f  \bompute\f 
    afte\f you\f \foute\f has been set up, see “How to install Cis\bo Conne\bt on anothe\f 
    \bompute\f” on page 12 
    NOTES:
    You\f Cis\bo Conne\bt CD wo\fks with only this \S\foute\f model  
    If you lose you\f setup CD, you \ban download the softwa\fe f\fom 
    Linksys.co\b/support 
    To st\frt Cisco Connect for the first ti\be: \B
    1. Inse\ft the CD into you\f CD o\f DVD d\five 
    2. Cli\bk Set up your Linksys Router 
    If you do not see this\S:
     •Fo\f Windows,  \bli\bk St\frt, Co\bputer,  then  double-\bli\bk  the CD  d\five 
    and the Setup i\bon 
     •Fo\f Ma\b, double-\bli\bk the CD i\bon on you\f desktop, then double-\bli\bk 
    the Setup i\bon 
    3. Follow  the  on-s\b\feen  inst\fu\btions  to  \bomplete  you\f  \foute\f  setup   When 
    setup has finished, Cis\bo Conne\bt has also been installed onto you\f ha\fd 
    d\five 
    Afte\f  you\f  \foute\f  has  been  set  up  and  Cis\bo  Conne\bt  has  been  installed,  you 
    \ban use Cis\bo Conne\bt to easily manage many of you\f \foute\f’s settings  
    To st\frt Cisco Connect on \f Windows co\bputer:
    1. Cli\bk St\frt, All Progr\f\bs, then \bli\bk Cisco Connect  The Cis\bo Conne\bt 
    main menu opens 
    To st\frt Cisco Connect on \f M\fc OS X co\bputer:
    1. Open  the Applic\ftions  folde\f,  then  double-\bli\bk  the Cisco  Connect 
    i\bon  The Cis\bo Conne\bt main menu opens

    Ho\b to install Cisco Connect on another computer
    Although  Cis\bo  Conne\bt  is  installed  onto  you\f  \bompute\f  when  you  \fun  the 
    setup CD, you may want to manage you\f \foute\f f\fom a diffe\fent \bompute\f on 
    you\f netwo\fk 
    CAUTION
    Afte\f you\f \foute\f has been set up, do not \fun the se\Stup CD to install 
    Cis\bo Conne\bt to anothe\f \bompute\f   If you \fun the setup CD\S again, 
    you will be p\fompted to ente\f the \foute\f’s netwo\fk name (SSID) 
    and passwo\fd 
    To inst\fll Cisco Connect onto \fnother co\bputer: 
    1. See “How  to  \bonne\bt  a  \bompute\f  using  an  Easy  Setup  Key”  on  page  13  
    When finished, Cis\bo Conne\bt has also been installed onto the \bompute\f’s 
    ha\fd d\five  
    Ho\b to improve your \bireless connection 
    speed
    Follow these tips to imp\fove you\f netwo\fk’s wi\feless \bonne\btion speed:
     •Make su\fe that you\f \foute\f is in a good lo\ba\Stion 
     •Fo\f the widest \bove\fage a\fea, install you\f \foute\f nea\f the \bente\f of you\f 
    home, and nea\f the \beiling, if possible  
     •Avoid  pla\bing  the  \foute\f  on  o\f  nea\f  metal  obje\bts  (su\bh  as  file  \babinets 
    and  metal  fu\fnitu\fe),  \fefle\btive  su\ffa\bes  (su\bh  as  glass  o\f  mi\f\fo\fs),  o\f 
    mason\fy walls 
     •Any  obst\fu\btion  \ban  weaken  the  wi\feless  signal  (even  non-metalli\b 
    obje\bts), so the fewe\f obst\fu\btions between the \foute\f and the wi\feless 
    devi\be, the bette\f  
     •Pla\be  the  \foute\f  in  a  lo\bation  away  f\fom  othe\f  ele\bt\foni\bs,  moto\fs,  and 
    fluo\fes\bent lighting  
     •Many envi\fonmental va\fiables \ban affe\bt the \foute\f’s pe\ffo\fman\be, so if 
    you\f wi\feless signal is weak, pla\be the \foute\f in seve\fal lo\bations and test 
    the signal st\fength to dete\fmine the ideal posi\Stion 
     •If  possible,  upg\fade  wi\feless  netwo\fk  inte\ffa\bes  (su\bh  as  wi\feless 
    netwo\fk \ba\fds in \bompute\fs) f\fom olde\f wi\feless standa\fds to 802 11n  If 
    a  wi\felessly  netwo\fked  devi\be  uses  an  olde\f  standa\fd,  the  pe\ffo\fman\be 
    of the enti\fe wi\feless netwo\fk may be slowe\f   
    Ho\b to test your Internet connection 
    speed
    To test your Internet connection speed:
    1. Run Cis\bo Conne\bt, then \bli\bk Ch\fnge unde\f Router settings  The Router 
    settings s\b\feen opens 
    2. Cli\bk L\funch  Test  unde\f Internet  Speed   The Internet  speed  test  s\b\feen 
    opens 
    3. Follow the on-s\b\feen inst\fu\btions to \bomplete the test

    Ho\b to connect a computer to your net\bork
    You  \ban  \bonne\bt  a  \bompute\f  to  you\f  netwo\fk  using  an  Easy  Setup  Key  (the 
    easiest way) o\f manually 
    Ho\b to connect a computer using an Easy Setup Key
    To use an Easy Setup Key, you fi\fst need to \b\feate one using any available USB 
    d\five   Afte\f  it  has  been  \b\feated,  you  \ban  use  the  same  key  to  \bonne\bt  seve\fal 
    \bompute\fs to you\f netwo\fk  
    TIP
    The Easy Setup Key sto\fes netwo\fk info\fmation (name, passwo\fd, 
    se\bu\fity type, and se\bu\fity key) so you don’t have to \femembe\f 
    them 
    To cre\fte \fn E\fsy Setup Key:
    1. Run Cis\bo Conne\bt, then \bli\bk Add device unde\f \fomputers and devices  
    The \fomputers and ot\ber devices s\b\feen opens 
    2. Cli\bk Co\bputer  
    3. Sele\bt No, I don’t h\fve \fn E\fsy Setup Key, then \bli\bk Next 
    4. Inse\ft a USB d\five into an available USB po\ft on you\f \bompute\f   This USB 
    d\five will be you\f new Easy Setup Key  
    Cis\bo  Conne\bt  dete\bts  the  newly  atta\bhed  USB  d\five  and  \bopies  the 
    \foute\f’s settings and a \bopy of Cis\bo Conne\bt to it  
    5. When  the  files  have  finished  \bopying,  \femove  the  Easy  Setup  Key  f\fom 
    you\f  \bompute\f  You  \ban  now  use  it  to  install  Cis\bo  Conne\bt  onto  othe\f 
    \bompute\fs and to \bonne\bt them to the netwo\fk  
    6. Cli\bk Close

    To use your E\fsy Setup Key to connect \f co\bputer to your network:
    1. Run Cis\bo Conne\bt, then \bli\bk Add device unde\f \fomputers and devices. 
    The \fomputers and ot\ber devices s\b\feen opens 
    2. Cli\bk Co\bputer  
    3. Sele\bt Yes,  I  h\fve  \fn  E\fsy  Setup  Key,  then  \bli\bk Next  The \fonnecting 
    anot\ber computer s\b\feen opens  
    4. Inse\ft the Easy Setup Key into an available USB po\ft on the \bompute\f that 
    you  want  to  \bonne\bt  to  the  netwo\fk   The \fonnecting  anot\ber  computer 
    s\b\feen opens 
    If  you  do  not  see  this,  use Windows  Explo\fe\f  o\f  Finde\f  to  view  the  Easy 
    Setup Key files, then double -\bli\bk Connect 
    5. Cli\bk Connect to your router, then follow the on-s\b\feen inst\fu\btions  
    6. Retu\fn to the \bompute\f \funning Cis\bo Conne\bt, then \bli\bk Next 
    7. Ente\f a name fo\f the newly \bonne\bted \bompute\f, then \bli\bk Finish 
    Ho\b to connect a computer manually
    To \bonne\bt a \bompute\f without using an Easy Setup Key, you will need to p\fint 
    o\f take note of some info\fmation 
    IMPORTANT
    When you manually \bonne\bt a \bompute\f to the netwo\fk, the 
    \bompute\f will not have Cis\bo Conne\bt installed on it 
    To \b\fnu\flly connect \f co\bputer to your network:
    1. Run Cis\bo Conne\bt, then \bli\bk Add device unde\f \fomputers and devices. 
    The \fomputers and ot\ber devices s\b\feen opens 
    2. Cli\bk Co\bputer  
    3. Sele\bt I  w\fnt  to  connect  \b\fnu\flly  using  \by  wireless  settings,  then 
    \bli\bk Next  A s\b\feen opens that displays netwo\fk info\fmation 
    4. W\fite  down  the  Netwo\fk  name  (SSID),  Se\bu\fity  Key,  and  Se\bu\fity  Type 
    info\fmation, o\f \bli\bk Print these settings if you have a p\finte\f atta\bhed  
    5. At  the  \bompute\f  you  want  to  \bonne\bt,  ente\f  the  netwo\fk  info\fmation 
    into you\f wi\feless manage\f 
    6. Afte\f  that  \bompute\f  \bonne\bts  to  you\f  netwo\fk,  \fetu\fn  to  the  \bompute\f 
    \funning Cis\bo Conne\bt, then \bli\bk Next 
    7. Cli\bk Connect  to  your  Linksys  router,  then  follow  the  on-s\b\feen 
    inst\fu\btions 
    8. When  you  a\fe  p\fompted  to  ente\f  a  name  fo\f  the  newly  \bonne\bted 
    \bompute\f, ente\f the name, then \bli\bk Finish

    Ho\b to connect a printer
    When you install a p\finte\f that \fequi\fes a \bable, follow the p\finte\f’s inst\fu\btions 
    fo\f setting it up, then follow you\f \bompute\f’s ope\fating system inst\fu\btions to 
    sha\fe the p\finte\f with you\f netwo\fk 
    When  you  set  up  a  wi\feless  p\finte\f,  howeve\f,  it  needs  to  \bommuni\bate  with 
    you\f \foute\f  Befo\fe you t\fy to set up you\f wi\feless p\finte\f, make su\fe that:
     •You\f p\finte\f has been \bompletely set up ex\bept fo\f being \bonne\bted to 
    the netwo\fk  
     •You\f p\finte\f suppo\fts the WPA/WPA2 wi\feless en\b\fyption standa\fd  
     •If you\f wi\feless p\finte\f suppo\fts WPS (Wi-Fi P\fote\bted Setup), you should 
    use  WPS  to  \bonne\bt  it  to  you\f  netwo\fk   See “How  to  set  up  wi\feless 
    se\bu\fity using Wi-Fi P\fote\bted Setup” on page 37 
    To connect \f wireless printer to your network:
    1. Run Cis\bo Conne\bt, then \bli\bk Add device unde\f \fomputers and devices  
    The \fomputers and ot\ber devices s\b\feen opens 
    2. Cli\bk Wireless printer  A s\b\feen opens that displays netwo\fk info\fmation 
    3. W\fite  down  the  Netwo\fk  name  (SSID),  Se\bu\fity  Key,  and  Se\bu\fity  Type 
    info\fmation,  o\f  \bli\bk Print these settings  if  you  have  a  diffe\fent  p\finte\f 
    al\feady \bonne\bted  
    4. Follow  you\f  p\finte\f’s  inst\fu\btions  fo\f  ente\fing  the  wi\feless  netwo\fk 
    info\fmation into you\f p\finte\f  
    5. Afte\f the p\finte\f \bonne\bts to you\f netwo\fk, \bli\bk Next in Cis\bo Conne\bt 
    6. Retu\fn  to  the  \bompute\f  \funning  Cis\bo  Conne\bt,  then  \bli\bk Next   The 
    Name your printer s\b\feen opens 
    7. Ente\f a name fo\f the p\finte\f, then \bli\bk Finish 
    8. Follow  you\f  \bompute\f  ope\fating  system’s  inst\fu\btions  fo\f  adding  the 
    new p\finte\f to you\f list of available p\finte\fs  
    Ho\b to connect other devices
    Many  othe\f  types  of  wi\feless  netwo\fk  devi\bes  \ban  \bonne\bt  to  you\f  home 
    netwo\fk, in\bluding:
     •Game \bonsoles
     •Inte\fnet-\bapable TVs and media playe\fs
     •Digital musi\b playe\fs
     •Sma\ft phones
    Be\bause of the wide va\fiety of devi\bes and methods of \bonne\bting, you must 
    manually ente\f netwo\fk info\fmation into the devi\bes fo\f a su\b\bessful netwo\fk 
    \bonne\btion  
    To \b\fnu\flly connect \f device to your network:
    1. Run Cis\bo Conne\bt, then \bli\bk Add device unde\f \fomputers and devices. 
    The \fomputers and ot\ber devices s\b\feen opens 
    2. Cli\bk Other devices  A s\b\feen opens that displays netwo\fk info\fmation

    6. Ente\f a name fo\f devi\be, then \bli\bk Finish

    Ho\b to set up parental controls
    With you\f \foute\f, you \ban use pa\fental \bont\fols to:
     •Set the times that Inte\fnet a\b\bess is allowed  
     •Blo\bk websites based on thei\f \bontent 
     •Blo\bk websites that you spe\bify 
     •Set the above \fest\fi\btions fo\f spe\bifi\b \bompute\fs  
    TIP
    When someone t\fies to open a blo\bked website, a window opens 
    asking fo\f the pa\fental \bont\fols passwo\fd  Ente\f the passwo\fd to 
    view the blo\bked \bontent 
    Ho\b to access parental controls
    The fi\fst time you t\fy to a\b\bess pa\fental \bont\fols, you a\fe asked to set a passwo\fd  
    To \fccess p\frent\fl controls for the first ti\be:
    1. Run  Cis\bo  Conne\bt,  then  \bli\bk Ch\fnge  unde\f P\frent\fl  controls   The

    A-Z, a-z, and 0-9 
     •The  answe\f  to  the  se\b\fet  question  should  be  something  not  easily 
    guessed  by  othe\fs    If  you  fo\fget  you\f  passwo\fd,  you  \ban  \feset  it  by 
    \bo\f\fe\btly answe\fing you\f se\b\fet question 
    3. To save you\f settings, \bli\bk OK  The Parental controls main s\b\feen appea\fs  
    To \fccess p\frent\fl controls \ffter the first ti\be:
    1. Run  Cis\bo  Conne\bt,  then  \bli\bk Ch\fnge  unde\f P\frent\fl  controls   The

    NOTE

    To ch\fnge the p\frent\fl controls p\fssword:
    1. In  the  Pa\fental  \bont\fols  main  s\b\feen,  \bli\bk Ch\fnge  p\frent\fl  controls

    controls
    It’s  not  ne\bessa\fy  to  set  pa\fental  \bont\fols  ove\f  ea\bh  \bompute\f  on  you\f  home 
    netwo\fk  You  \ban  set  the  \bont\fols  on  only  those  \bompute\fs  that  \bhild\fen  \ban 
    a\b\bess 
    To select co\bputers th\ft will h\fve p\frent\fl controls:
    1. In  the Parental  controls  main  s\b\feen,  \bli\bk +  (add)  unde\f  the Restrict 
    Internet access on box 
    2. Cli\bk  the  \bompute\f  name,  then  \bli\bk OK  The  \bompute\f  is  added  to  the 
    list of \bompute\fs with pa\fental \bont\fols  
    3. To \femove pa\fental \bont\fols f\fom a \bompute\f, \bli\bk the \bompute\f name 
    in the Restrict Internet access on box, then \bli\bk – (\femove)  
    Ho\b to set parental controls
    1. In  the Parental  controls  main  s\b\feen,  \bli\bk  the  \bompute\f  name  to  set 
    pa\fental \bont\fols fo\f 
    2. Unde\f Block Internet access, spe\bify when the \bompute\f’s Inte\fnet a\b\bess 
    will be blo\bked:
     •Never does not blo\bk Inte\fnet a\b\bess  
     •Alw\fys blo\bks Inte\fnet a\b\bess at all times  
     •Specific  ti\bes  blo\bks  Inte\fnet  a\b\bess  only  du\fing  spe\bifi\b  times    If  you 
    sele\bt this option, set the s\bhedule fo\f School nights (Monday th\fough 
    F\fiday) and Weekends (Satu\fday and Sunday) 
    3. To \b\feate o\f \bhange a list of spe\bifi\b websites to blo\bk, \bli\bk Edit next to 
    Block specific sites  The Block t\bese sites s\b\feen opens 
    \f. On a blank line, ente\f a website add\fess that you want to blo\bk  
    b. Cli\bk S\fve to  save  the  list  and  \fetu\fn  to  the Parental  controls  main 
    s\b\feen 
    4. To save you\f \bhanges, \bli\bk Finish 
    5. Repeat the above steps fo\f ea\bh \bompute\f that you want to set pa\fental

    net\bork
    You  \ban  use  you\f  \foute\f’s  guest  a\b\bess  featu\fe  to  p\fovide  you\f  guests  with 
    a\b\bess  to  the  Inte\fnet,  while  \fest\fi\bting  thei\f  a\b\bess  to  othe\f  \fesou\f\bes  on 
    you\f lo\bal netwo\fk  The guest netwo\fk is shown as an open, unse\bu\fe wi\feless 
    netwo\fk that you\f guests \ban easily \bonne\bt to   To p\fevent unautho\fized use\fs 
    f\fom using you\f Inte\fnet a\b\bess, you\f guest netwo\fk \fequi\fes that a passwo\fd

    a\b\bess  Othe\fwise, \bli\bk no to disable guest a\b\bess  
    3. Take  note  of  the  Guest  a\b\bount’s  netwo\fk  name  and  passwo\fd   You  will 
    need to p\fovide this info\fmation to you\f guests 
    TIPS
    To keep you\f guest netwo\fk se\bu\fe, \bli\bk Ch\fnge to \bhange the 
    guest passwo\fd when the guest n\So longe\f needs a\b\bess to the 
    a\b\bount 
    You \ban view the Gue\Sst a\b\bount’s name and passwo\fd in Cis\bo

    4. In  the Tot\fl  guests  allowed  d\fop-down  box,  sele\bt  the  numbe\f  of 
    simultaneous guest \Snetwo\fk use\fs you want to allow 
    5. Cli\bk Finish to apply you\f \bhanges 
    TIP
    The fi\fst time you\f guest t\fies to a\b\bess the Inte\fnet th\fough a web 
    b\fowse\f, they will see th\Se Guest access s\b\feen  To \bontinue, they 
    must ente\f the passwo\fd you p\fovided in the P\fssword field, then 
    \bli\bk LOGIN 
    Ho\b to change your router’s name and 
    pass\bord
    You  \ban  \bhange  the  name  and  passwo\fd  of  you\f  \foute\f,  but  if  you  do  so,  all 
    wi\feless  devi\bes  \bonne\bted  to  you\f  \foute\f  will  lose  thei\f  Inte\fnet  \bonne\btion 
    until you \fe\bonne\bt them using the n\Sew \foute\f name and passwo\fd  
    CAUTION
    If you \bhange you\f \foute\f’s name and passwo\fd using the b\fowse\f-
    based utility, you may not be able to manage you\f \foute\f using 
    Cis\bo Conne\bt  We \fe\bommend using the p\S\fo\bedu\fe below to 
    \bhange you\f \foute\f’s login info\fmation 
    To ch\fnge your router’s n\f\be \fnd p\fssword:
    1. Run Cis\bo Conne\bt, then \bli\bk Ch\fnge unde\f Router settings 
    2. Unde\f Personalize,  \bli\bk Ch\fnge   A \f\banging  router  name  and  password 
    wa\fning appea\fs
    3. Cli\bk Yes if you want to \bontinue 
    4. Ente\f the new \foute\f name and passwo\fd, then \bli\bk Ch\fnge 
    TIP
    Afte\f you make \bhanges, update you\f Easy Setup Key to make it 
    easie\f to \fe\bonne\bt all of the othe\f \S\bompute\fs on the netwo\fk
