Printing Maintenance 38 Printing Maintenance When Printing Becomes Faint or Colors are Incorrect When printing becomes faint or colors are incorrect, the Print Head Nozzles are probably clogged. Follow the procedures below to clean the nozzles. Note• If ruled lines are printed misaligned, adjust the Print Head position. See"A Aligning the Print Head"on page 50. • If ink tank replacement does not resolve the problem, the Print Head may be worn out. Contact the Customer Care Center. Printing Maintenance 39 Printing the Nozzle Check Pattern Print the nozzle check pattern to determine whether the ink ejects properly from the Print Head Nozzles. Use this function when printed results are blurred or the color is incorrect. (1)Ensure that the printer is turned on, and then load a sheet of Letter paper. (2)Hold down the R RESUME/CANCEL button until the PPOWER lamp flashes twice, and then release it immediately. „Printing the Nozzle Check Pattern 1With the printer on, load a sheet of Letter-sized plain paper in the printer. 2Open the PPrinter Properties dialog box. Printing Maintenance 42 „Examining the Nozzle Check Pattern The nozzle check pattern should appear as follows when ink is discharged properly. Examine the nozzle check pattern output by the printer. Lines missing or white stripes in this pattern require running Print Head cleaning. Click the C Cleaning button on the PPattern Check screen to proceed to Print Head cleaning. See"PPrint Head Cleaning"on page 44. NoteIf the ink level is low, the nozzle check pattern is not printed properly. Replace an ink tank. See"RReplacing an Ink Tank"on page 54. Printing Maintenance 44 Print Head Cleaning If missing lines or white stripes are found in the printed nozzle check pattern, perform Print Head cleaning to unclog the Print Head Nozzles. Cleaning the Print Head consumes ink, so perform Print Head cleaning only when necessary. 1Ensure that the printer is turned on. 2Open the Printer Properties dialog box. See"OOpening the Printer Properties Dialog Box Directly from the Start Menu"on page 26. 3 Start Print Head Cleaning. Note• The print head can also be cleaned by pressing the RRESUME/CANCEL button on the printer. 1. Ensure that the printer is turned on. 2. Note• If this does not solve the problem, clean the Print Heads again, up to three times. • After Print Head cleaning finishes, print the nozzle check pattern to verify that the Print Head Nozzles are clean.
