    Scan
    Set the \frientati\fn \ff the d\fcument.If y\fu selected PDF as the file type, y\fu 
    can create a searchable PDF. Als\f, y\fu 
    can set the c\fmpressi\fn rati\f.
    •	Select t\f specify the scan settings using the 
    scanner driver (
    →p.82).
    •	When [ Start] is clicked with this check b\fx 
    selected, the [ ScanGear MF ] dial\fg b\fx 
    appears.
    •	This check b\fx is n\ft available when y\fu scan 
    using the [ OCR] butt\fn.
    •	Set an applicati\fn t\f display the scanned image.
    •	Click [ Set] t\f select an applicati\fn \fr drag and dr\fp the 
    applicati\fn ic\fn.
    •	Click [ Delete ] t\f save the file with\fut using the applicati\fns. Set the PDF file type t\f save the scanned 
    image.

    Scan a Document with the Scanner Driver
    If y\fu use the scanner driver wind\fw (ScanGear MF Wind\fw), y\fu can use vari\fus features 
    and scan \fnly the necessary part with the preview functi\fn.
    1	Make sure that the computer and machine are connected (See Getting 
    Started)\f
    2	Place your documents (→p\f18)\f
    3	Switch to the Scan mode (→p\f15)\f
    4	Press [▲] or [▼] to highlight , and then press [OK]\f
    5	From your computer, double-click the [Canon MF Toolbox] icon\f
    6	When MF Toolbox appears, click the desired scan mode button\f
    7	When the scan setting window appears, select the [Display the Scanner 
    Driver] check box, and then click [Start]\f
    8	Select [Preview] on the scanner driver dialog box, and then specify 
    settings as needed\f
     
    Specify vari\fus 
    scanner settings 
    \fn each tab.
    Y\fu can preview the 
    image applied t\f the  scan setting values.
    Cr\fps the b\frders detected in the preview image.
    Deletes the selected cr\fpping frames.
    R\ftates the image 90 degrees t\f the left.

    9	Click [Scan] to start scanning\f

    When scanning is c\fmplete, the f\flder in which the scanned d\fcument is saved 
    \fpens aut\fmatically.
    •	If an applicati\fn is specified, the scanned d\fcument will be \fpened in the 
    applicati\fn.

    Clean the Machine
    Clean the exteri\fr and interi\fr \ff the machine, feeder, and the fixing unit peri\fdically.
    Cleaning the Exterior
    IMPORTANTIM PO RTA N T
    F\fr safety, be sure t\f turn OFF the machine and disc\fnnect all cables fr\fm 
    the machine bef\fre cleaning the machine. When y\fu finish cleaning the 
    machine, wait f\fr it t\f dry c\fmpletely bef\fre rec\fnnecting the p\fwer c\frd, 
    and then turn ON the p\fwer.
    1	Turn OFF the machine and disconnect all the cables from the machine\f
    2	Remove any documents from the platen glass or feeder\f
    3	Clean the exterior of the machine and ventilation slots with a soft, well 
    wrung-out cloth dampened with water or a mild detergent that has been 
    diluted with water\f
     
    4	Wait for the machine to dry completely\f
    5	Reconnect all the cables, and then turn ON the power\f
    Cleaning the Platen Glass
    If a scanned image has unexpected specks, clean the platen glass.
    1	Turn OFF the machine and disconnect all the cables from the machine\f
    2	Remove any documents from the platen glass\f
    3	Open the feeder\f
    4	Clean the areas with a cloth dampened with water\f Then, wipe the area 
    with a soft, dry cloth\f
     
    5	Wait for the machine to dry completely\f
    6	Close the feeder\f
    7	Reconnect all the cables, and then turn ON the power\f

    Clean the feeder when smudges appear \fn printed pages.
    1	Press [  ]\f
    2	Press [▲] or [▼] to highlight , and then press 
    [OK]\f

    4	Load Letter size plain paper in the feeder, and then press [OK]\f

    Cleaning the Fixing Unit
    Clean the fixing unit when black streaks appear \fn printed pages.

    4	Load Letter size plain paper drawer or manual feed slot, and then press

    Cleaning the Transfer Belt
    Clean the transfer belt when print quality deteri\frates.

    2	Press [▲] or [▼] to highlight , and then press

    3	Press [▲] or [▼] to highlight , and then press [OK]\f
    4	Press [OK]\f

    Check and Replace Toner Cartridges
    T\fner cartridges are c\fnsumable pr\fducts. When the t\fner has alm\fst run \fut, a message 
    appears in the display and streaks may appear \fn printed pages. Check the t\fner level, and 
    replace the t\fner cartridge if necessary.
    OR
    Check the toner level, as needed. See the directions below.
    When  
    message still appears in display, \fr print result is n\ft 
    impr\fved, replace the t\fner cartridge (
    →p.87). (* The 
    t\fner cartridge c\fl\frs black, yell\fw, magenta, \fr 
    cyan appear in the actual message.)
    When the < Prepare the XXXX* toner cartridge. > message appears \fn 
    the display, the inc\fming faxes will be st\fred in the mem\fry with\fut printing. 
    Y\fu can als\f set t\f print the received faxes, h\fwever, the printed d\fcuments 
    may be light \fr blurred. (* The t\fner cartridge c\fl\frs black, yell\fw, magenta, 
    \fr cyan appear in the actual message.)
    Press [ 
     ]             , and then press [ OK].
    Checking the Toner Level
    1	Press [  ] (Status Monitor)\f
    2	Press [▲] or [▼] to highlight , and then press [OK]\f
    3	Press [▲] or [▼] to highlight , and then press [OK]\f
    4	Check the toner level\f

    The t\fner level will appear as < OK>, < Low >, \fr < Nearly Out >.

    Replacing Toner Cartridges
    Y\fu can purchase replacement t\fner cartridges fr\fm y\fur l\fcal auth\frized Can\fn dealer. 
    Supported genuine Canon toner cartridges:

    1	Open the front cover and pull out the cartridge tray, and then remove the 
    toner cartridges\f

    2	Prepare a new toner cartridge\f•	
    St\fre the pr\ftective bag. It is required when y\fu rem\fve the t\fner cartridge f\fr 
    machine maintenance \fr \fther purp\fses.
    Shake the t\fner cartridge 
    5-6 times t\f evenly distribute 
    the t\fner. In this step, d\f n\ft 
    rem\fve the drum pr\ftective 
    c\fver (
    ).
    Place the t\fner cartridge \fn a 
    flat surface, rem\fve the tab, and 
    carefully pull the sealing tape 
    c\fmpletely \fut (20” (50 cm)).

    \fhen pulling out the sealing tape:
    •	D\f n\ft pull the sealing tape at an angle \fr up and d\fwn. If the tape 
    breaks, it may n\ft be pulled \fut c\fmpletely.
    Top View
    •	Even if the sealing tape st\fps at midp\fint, pull it \fut \ff the t\fner 
    cartridge c\fmpletely. 
    •	If any tape remains in the t\fner cartridge, this may result in p\f\fr print 
    quality. If y\fu are using the Fax, please n\fte that y\fu can \fnly print the 
    received data \fnce, because the received data is deleted \fnce it is printed.
    •	Disp\fse \ff the packing materials acc\frding t\f l\fcal regulati\fns.
    Rem\fve the drum pr\ftective

    Maintenance and Management
    3	Install the toner cartridge\f•	
    Each t\fner cartridge c\fl\fr has its \fwn sl\ft in the t\fner cartridge tray, and this tray 
    is indicated with a c\frresp\fnding c\fl\fr label (
    ). Place the t\fner cartridge int\f the 
    sl\ft that c\frresp\fnds t\f its c\fl\fr.
     
    4	Push the toner cartridge tray back in, and close the front cover\f
    \fARNING
    Do not dispose of a used toner cartridge in open flames.
    This may cause the t\fner remaining inside the cartridge t\f ignite, resulting in burns 
    \fr a fire.
    \fhen cleaning up spilled or scattered toner:
    If y\fu accidentally spill \fr scatter t\fner, carefully gather the t\fner particles t\fgether 
    \fr wipe them up with a s\fft, damp cl\fth in a way that prevents inhalati\fn. 
    Never use a vacuum cleaner that d\fes n\ft have safeguards against dust expl\fsi\fns 
    t\f clean up spilled t\fner. D\fing s\f may cause a malfuncti\fn in the vacuum cleaner, 
    \fr result in a dust expl\fsi\fn due t\f static discharge.
    CAUTION
    If you get toner on your hands or clothing:
    Wash them immediately with c\fld water. Washing with warm water sets the t\fner, 
    making it imp\fssible t\f rem\fve the t\fner stains.
    Do not allow the toner to scatter.
    D\f n\ft pull \fut the sealing tape f\frcefully \fr st\fp bef\fre it is rem\fved, as this 
    may cause t\fner t\f spill \fut. If t\fner gets int\f y\fur eyes \fr m\futh, flush them 
    immediately with c\fld water and immediately c\fnsult a physician.
    •	F\fll\fw all l\fcal and federal regulati\fns when disp\fsing \ff the sealing tape 
    rem\fved fr\fm the new t\fner cartridge.
    •	Can\fn will c\fllect and recycle y\fur used t\fner cartridges (→p.112).

    Print \fut rep\frts \fr lists t\f view c\fmmunicati\fn status, Address \b\f\fk inf\frmati\fn, \fr 
    settings, f\fr m\fnit\fring the machine.

    2	Press [▲] or [▼] to highlight , and then press [OK]\f
    3	Press [▲] or [▼] to highlight a report or list, and then press [OK]\f
