    Before Printing
    Changing the Print Settings
    This section describes the Settings screen that  can be specified on the Operation Panel when 
    copying or when printing from a memory card.
    „ To Change the Print Settings
    You can change the print settings such as page  size, media type, bordered or borderless print, 
    etc.
    z How to Change the Settings
    This section describes the procedure to change the  settings, taking the steps to specify the page 
    size for Memory card mode to  4 x 6 (101 x 152) as an example. For details on each item, see 
    “Print Setting Items” on page 18.
    1Display the Settings screen.
    (1) Press the  Settings button.
    The Settings screen is displayed.
    2Select the  Setting tab.
    (1)Use the  [ or  ] button to select the  Setting 
    tab.

    3Select the setting item.
    (1) Use the  { or  } button to select the setting 
    item.
    Example: Select  8.5 x 11 (215 x 279)  here.

    4Change the setting.
    (1)Use the  [ or  ] button to change the setting.
    Example: Change to  4 x 6 (101 x 152) here.
    5Complete setting.
    (1)Press the  Settings button.
    The LCD returns to the Settings screen.
    „ Print Setting Items
    Each tab contains the following setting items. To change the tab, use the  { button to select the 
    tab and use the  [ or  ] button.
    z Copy Mode
    This section describes the Settings screen for Copy mode.

    You can specify the paper settings for printing or print quality.
    (1) Specify the page size.
    8.5 x 11 (215 x 279), A4, B5, A5, 4 x 6 (101 x 152), 5 x 7 (127 x 177), Credit card
    (2) Specify the media type.
    Plain paper, Photo Paper Pro, Photo Plus  Glossy, Matte Photo Paper, Glossy Photo 
    Paper
    Note
    Depending on the functions specified in the Copy or Memory card mode, some setting items 
    cannot be specified in combination.
    Note
    Paper size, media type, and print quality settings are specified for the paper source selected by the 
    Paper Feed Switch . Confirm the selected paper source.
    Important
    You cannot load paper other than A4, Letter, or B5-sized plain paper in the Front Feeder. 
    When specifying a page size other than  A4, 8.5 x 11 (215 x 279) , or B5, load paper in the 
    Auto Sheet Feeder.
    Note
    Some of these options are not available depending on the country of purchase.
    Important
    You cannot load paper other than A4, Letter, or B5-sized plain paper in the Front Feeder. 
    When specifying a media type other than  Plain paper, load paper in the Auto Sheet Feeder.

    (3) Adjust image quality according to the original.
    Fast, Standard, High
    (4) You can specify the reduction or enlargement method.
    Same magnification, Preset ratio, Zoom (25-400%), Fit-to-page

    You can specify auto intensity.
    (5) Specify if auto intensity is performed.
    Auto intensity ON, Auto intensity OFF
    This function automatically adjusts the int ensity of the original on the Platen Glass.
    Specifying  Auto intensity ON  automatically changes the icon above the intensity slide 
    bar on the LCD to  AUTO.
    zMemory Card Mode
    This section describes the Settings screen for Memory card mode.

    You can specify the settings such as the size  and type of paper, bordered/borderless, and Date/
    file no.
    Notez Fast  can be selected when  Plain paper is selected as the media type.
    z If you used  Fast with media type set to  Plain paper and the quality is not as good as 
    expected, select  Standard or High  and try copying again.
    z Select  High to copy in grayscale. Grayscale renders tones in a range of grays instead of 
    black or white.
    Important
    Even while  Auto intensity ON  is selected, you can change the intensity by pressing the  [ or 
    ]  button. Move the cursor to the center of the slide bar to enable auto intensity again.
    Notez Paper size, media type, and print quality settings are specified for the paper source selected by 
    the  Paper Feed Switch . Confirm the selected paper source.
    z You can change the print settings on this screen when a PictBridge compliant device is 
    connected to this machine.

    You can optimize photos with the functions below.
    (1)Activate/deactivate Vivid photo function.
    Makes green and blue more lively.
    Vivid photo ON, Vivid photo OFF
    (2)Activate/deactivate the Photo Optimizer pro function.
    Automatically optimizes brightness and tone of a photo.
    Photo optimizer pro ON, Photo optimizer pro OFF
    (3)Activate/deactivate the Noise reduction function.
    Reduces the noise on blue areas like the sky as well as on black areas.
    Noise reduction ON, Noise reduction OFF
    Important
    You cannot load paper other than A4, Letter, or B5-sized plain paper in the Front Feeder. 
    When specifying a page size other than A4 or 8.5 x 11 (215 x 279) load paper in the Auto 
    Sheet Feeder.
    Note

    Brightens a darkened face on the photo taken against the light.

    (5) Activate/deactivate Image optimizer function.
    Corrects and smooths the jagged contours for printing.

    (6) Adjust brightness.
    Brightness +2, Brightness +1, Brightnes s standard, Brightness -1, Brightness -2
    (7) Adjust contrast.

    (8) Adjust color hue.

    Printing from Your Computer
    This section describes the  procedure for basic printing.
    Printing with Windows
    1
    Turn on the machine and load the paper in the machine.
    See “Turning the Machine On and Off” on page 2 and “Loading Printing Paper” on page 6.
    2Make sure that the proper paper source is selected.
    See “Changing the Paper Source” on page 11.
    3Create a document or open a file to print  using an appropriate application software.
    4Select Print on the application software’s  File 
    menu.
    5Make sure that  Canon MP510 Printer  is 
    selected, and click  Preferences (or 
    Properties ).
    6Specify the required settings and click  OK.
    Make sure that  Paper Feed Switch  is selected in 
    Paper  Source .
    7Click Print (or OK).
    Note
    zIf you select  Front for Plain Paper , the machine 
    will automatically switch to the Front Feeder 
    when  Plain Paper  is specified for  Media Type. 
    You cannot load paper other than A4, Letter, or 
    B5-sized plain paper in the Front Feeder.
    z For details on other printer driver functions, click 
    Help  or Instructions  to view the online help or 
    the  Printer Driver Guide  on-screen manual. 
    Instructions  is only displayed when the on-

    Printing from Your Computer
    Printing with Macintosh
    1
    Turn on the machine and load the paper in the machine.
    See “Turning the Machine On and Off” on page 2 and “Loading Printing Paper” on page 6.
    2Make sure that the proper paper source is selected.
    See “Changing the Paper Source” on page 11.
    3Create a document or open a file to print  using an appropriate application software.
    4Select Page Setup  on the application 
    software’s  File menu. 
    5Confirm that  MP510 is selected in  Format 
    for .
    6Select the desired paper size in  Paper Size.
    7Click OK.
    8Select  Print on the application software’s  File menu.
    9Select  Quality & Media  in the pop-up menu.
    10Specify the required settings.
    Make sure that Paper Feed Switch  is selected in 
    Paper Source .
    11Click Print.
    NotezIf you select  Front for Plain Paper , the machine 
    will automatically switch to the Front Feeder 
    when  Plain Paper  is specified for  Media Type. 
    You cannot load paper other than A4, Letter, or 
    B5-sized plain paper in the Front Feeder.
    z For details on other printer driver functions, click 
     to view the  Printer Driver Guide  on-screen 
    manual. If the on-screen manuals are not 
    installed, the  Printer Driver Guide  on-screen

    							24Scanning Images
    Scanning Images
    You can scan images from the machine to a com puter without printing them and save them in 
    popular file formats, such as JPEG, TIFF, bitmaps,  or PDF. If you are scanning printed text, you can 
    use the OCR (Optical Character Recognition)  software to convert it to text data.
    Scanning Methods
    „Scanning Using the MP Navigator
    Using MP Navigator, you can scan originals  loaded on the Platen Glass and view images saved 
    on your computer or on a memory card. Sc anned documents can be previewed and be easily 
    printed and edited according to your needs.
    You can use the bundled software applications to  edit or print the document you have scanned.
    For detailed operations of the MP Navigator, refer to the  Scanning Guide on-screen manual.
    „Scanning Using the Operation Panel of the Machine
    1Turn on the machine.
    See “Turning the Machine On and Off” on page 2.
    2Load the original document on the Platen Glass.
    See “Handling the Original Document” on page 4.
    3Press the  SCAN button.
    4Use the  { or  } button to select the scan operation, then press the  OK button.
    5Press the  Color or Black  button.
    The operation to be performed after scanning  the original depends on the scan operation 
    setting you have selected in step 4. For details on  how to modify the operation settings, refer 
    to the  Scanning Guide  on-screen manual.
    „Scanning from an Application Software
    You can scan an image from a TWAIN- or WIA- (Windows® XP only) compliant application 
    software and handle the scanned image in the appl ication software. For detailed operations, 
    refer to the  Scanning Guide  on-screen manual.

    Making Copies
    This section describes the ba sic procedure to make copies.
    1Turn on the machine, and load the printing paper.
    See “Turning the Machine On and Off” on page 2 and “Loading Printing Paper” on page 6.
    2Make sure that the proper paper source is selected.
    See “Changing the Paper Source” on page 11.
    3Specify copy settings.
    (1)Page size, media type, image quality, 
    magnification
    The settings you made in the Settings screen 
    of the Copy mode is displayed.
    (2) Number of copies
    Use the  { or  } button to specify the number 
    of copies.
    (3) Intensity
    Press the  [ button to decrease the intensity 
    and the  ] button to increase it.
    4Load the original on the Platen Glass.
    See “Loading Original Documents” on page 4.
    5Press the  Color button for color copying, or the  Black button for black & white 
    copying.
    Using Other Copy Functions
    Reduced/Enlarged Copy
    Reduces or enlarges copies.
    Sticker Copy Makes stickers from 4 x 6 / 101.6 x 152.4 mm photos or graphics using Canon sticker paper.
    Borderless Copy
    Copies color images so that they fill the entire page without borders.
    Image Repeat Copies an image multiple times onto a single page.  For the number of times to repeat the image, 
    you can select from the machine’s pre-def ined settings or specify the number manually.
