Shooting Movies
Set the Mode Dial to  to 
shoot movies. The movie file 
format will be MOV.
SD Cards for Movie ShootingWhen shooting movies, use a card  with an SD speed Class 6  
“ ” or higher. If you use a ca rd with a slower SD speed 
Class, the movie shooting an d playback might not work 
properly.
Also, a large-capacity card  is recommended for movie 
shooting.
About Full HD 1080Full HD 1080 indicates compatibility with High-
Definition with 1080 vertic al pixels (scanning lines).

Connecting the camera to a TV set is recommended to playback 
movies (p.156-157).
1Set the Mode Dial to .

LCD monitor.

  Before shooting a movie, autofocus 
or manual focus (p.111-118).
  Press the < A> button to focus in the

 Select the [ k] menu tab.
  The menu options displayed are 
explained below.
  Movie-recording size
[1920x1080 ] : Full HD (Full High-Definition) recording quality.
[1280x720 ] : HD (High-Definition) recording quality.
[640x480] : Standard recording quality. The  screen format will be 4:3.

 Grid display
With [Grid 1 l] or [ Grid 2 m], you can display grid lines.
  Metering timer
You can change how long the AE lock is to be maintained with the 
 button.
  Sound recording
When the sound recording is set to [On ], monaural sound will be 
recorded with the built-in microphone. (An external microphone 
cannot be used.) The sound recording level will be adjusted 
automatically.
  Remote control
You can use Remote Controller RC- 1/RC-5 (sold separately, p.194)

You can take a still photo at anytime by 
pressing the shutter button completely, 
even during movie shooting.
Taking Still Photos During Movie Shooting
 The still photo will record the  entire screen including the semi-
transparent mask.
  If you take a still photo during mo vie shooting, the movie will have a 
still segment for about 1 sec.
  The captured still photo will be reco rded to the card, and the movie 
shooting will resume automatically  when the Live View image is...

Recording and Image Quality
 At [ 1920x1080 ], the recorded frame rate  is slower, so fast-moving 
subjects or scenes ma y look a little jerky.
  If a single movie’s file  size reaches 4 GB, the movie shooting will stop 
automatically. To start movie  shooting again, press the  button. (A 
new movie file starts being recorded.)
  If the attached lens has an Image Stabilizer, the Image Stabilizer will 
operate at all times even  if you do not press the shutter button halfway....

Notes on Movie Shooting
Camera’s internal temperature increase and image degradation
 If you continue to shoot movies fo r a prolonged period, the camera’s 
internal temperature will  increase. This can degr ade the image quality. 
While not shooting, turn off the power.
  If you shoot under direct  sunlight or high-temperature conditions, the 
 icon (high internal  temperature warning)  may appear on the 
screen. If you keep  shooting a movie with the  warning icon displayed, the

You can prevent the beeper from sounding when focus is achieved or 
during self-timer operation.Under the [1] tab, select [ Beep], then 
press < 0>. Select [ Off], then press 
< 0 >.
This prevents shooting if there is no card in the camera.
Under the [1] tab, select [Release 
shutter without card
], then press .
