141 Handy Features [Auto reset]: Resets the file numbering to 0001 whenever the card is replaced. Each time you replace the card, the file numbering restarts from 0001. This is convenient if you want to organize images according to cards. If the replacement card contains im ages recorded previously, the file numbering of the new images might c ontinue from the file numbering of the existing images in the card. To restart the file numbering from 0001, you should use a newly-formatted card. [Manual reset]: To reset the file numbering to 0001 manually or to start from file number 0001 in a new folder. When you reset the file numbering manually, a new folder is created automatically and the file numbering of images saved to that folder starts from 0001. This is convenient if you want to use different folders for the images taken yesterday and the ones taken today, for example. After the manual reset, the file numbering retu rns to continuous or auto reset. 00510001 Card-1Card-2 File numbering after replacing the card File numbering is reset If the file number in folder No. 999 reaches 9999, shooting will not be possible even if the card still has st orage capacity. The LCD monitor will display a message telling you to replace t he card. Replace it with a new card. For both JPEG and RAW images, the file name w ill start with “IMG_”. Movie file names will start with “MVI_”. Th e extension will be “.JPG” for JPEG images, “.CR2” for RAW images , and “. MOV” for movies. COPY
Handy Features 142 Vertical images are rotated automatically so they are displayed vertically on the camera’s LCD monitor and computer instead of horizontally. The setting of this feature can be changed.Under the [ 5] tab, select [ Auto rotate], then press < 0>. The available settings are described below. Select one, then press < 0>. [On PD ]: The vertical image is automatic ally rotated during playback on both the camera’s LCD mo nitor and on the computer. [On D] : The vertical image is autom atically rotated only on the computer. [Off] : The vertical image is not automatically rotated at all. The vertical image is not rotated during the image review immediately after it is captured. Press the < x> button and the image playback will display the rotated image. [On PD ] is set, but the image do es not rotate during playback. Auto rotate will not work with vertical images captured while [ Auto rotate ] was set to [ Off]. Also, if the vertical image is taken while the camera is pointed up or down, the image might not rotate for playback. In such a case, see “Rotating the Image” on page 159. On the camera ’s LCD monitor, I want to rotate an image captured when [On D] had been set. Set [ OnPD ], then playback the image. It will be rotated. The vertical image does not rotate on the computer screen. The software used is not compat ible with image rotation. This works in the < d> and other Creative Zone modes. 1Select [Clear settings]. Under the [ 7] tab, select [Clear settings ], then press < 0>. 2Select the desired setting. To revert the shooting settings to the default, select [Clear all camera settings ], then press < 0>. To revert the Custom Functions to the default settings, select [ Clear all Custom Func. (C.Fn) ], then press < 0 >. 3Select [OK]. Select [OK ], then press < 0>. Under the [ 5] tab, select [ LCD auto off], then press < 0>. Select [Disable], then press < 0>. You can change the backgr ound color of the shooting settings screen. Select [Screen color]. Under the [ 5] tab, select [ Screen color ], then press < 0>. Select the desired color, then press . 147 The built-in flash and external Speedlite settings can be set with the menu. The [External flash ***] menu options for external Speedlites are applicable only to an attached EX-series Speedlite compatible with the respective functions . The setting procedure is the same as setting a camera menu function. Select [Flash control]. Under the [ 1] tab, select [Flash control ], then press < 0>. X The flash control screen will appear. Normally, set this to [Enable ]. If [Disable] is set, both the built-in flash and external Speedlite will not fire. This is useful when you only want to use the flash’s AF-assist beam. The [Built-in flash func. setting ] and [External flash func. setting] menus can set the functions list ed on the next page. The functions displayed under [ External flash func. setting ] will vary depending on the Speedlite model. Select [Built-in flash func. setting ] or [ External flash func. setting ]. Flash mode With an external Speedlite, you can select the flash mode to suit your flash shooting. [E-TTL II ] is the standard mode of EX-series Speedlites for automat ic flash shooting. [Manual flash ] enables you to set the flash output yourself. This is for advanced users. * For other flash mode s, refer to your Speedlite’s instruction manual. Shutter sync. Normally, set this to [ 1st curtain] so that the flash fires immediately after the exposure starts. If [ 2nd curtain ] is set, the flash will fire right before the exposure ends. When this is combined with a slow sync speed, you can create a trail of light such as from car headlights at night. With 2nd curtain sync, two flashes will be fired: Once when you press the shutter button completely, and once immediately before the exposure ends. However, with shutter speeds faster than 1/30 sec., 1st curtain sync will automatically take effect. If an external Speedlite is attached, you can also set [ Hi-speed]. For details, see the Speedlite’s instruction manual. 149 3 Setting the FlashN Flash exposure compensation See “ y Flash Exposure Compensation” on page 88. E-TTL II For normal flash exposures, set it to [ Evaluative]. If [ Average] is set, the flash exposure wi ll be averaged for the entire metered scene as with an external metering flash. Since flash exposure compensation may be nec essary depending on the scene, this setting is for advanced users. Clear flash settings On the [External flash func. setting ] screen, press the button to display the screen to clear the flash settings. When you select [OK ], the settings for the built-in flash and external Speedlite will be cleared. 1Display the Custom Function. Select [ External flash C.Fn setting ], then press < 0>. 2Set the Custom Function. Press the < U> key, then press < 0 >. The procedure is the same as setting the camera’s Custom Functions (p.190). 150 Whenever you set the power switch to or , the Self Cleaning Sensor Unit operates to aut omatically shake off the dust on the front of the sensor. Normally, you need not pay attention to this operation. However, you can execute the sensor cleaning at anytime as well as disable it. 1Select [Sensor cleaning]. Under the [ 6] tab, select [Sensor cleaning ], then press < 0>. 2Select [Clean nowf]. Select [Clean now f], then press < 0 >. Select [OK ] on the dialog screen, then press < 0>. X The screen will indicate that the sensor is being cleaned. Although there will be a shutter sound, a picture is not taken. In step 2, select [ Auto cleaningf] and set it to [ Disable]. X The sensor cleaning will no lon ger be executed when you set the power switch to < 1> or < 2>. f Automatic Sensor Cleaning Cleaning the Sensor Now Disabling Automatic Sensor Cleaning For best results, do the sensor cleaning while the camera bottom is placed on a table or other flat surface. Even if you repeat the sensor cleaning, the resu lt will not improve that much. Right after the sensor cleaning is finished, the [Clean now f] option will remain disabled temporarily. COPY
