White balance (WB) is for making the white areas look white. Normally,
the < Q> (Auto) setting will obtain the co rrect white balance. If natural-
looking colors cannot be obtained with < Q>, you can select the white
balance settings for different source s or set it manually by shooting a

You can correct the white balance that has been set. This adjustment

darker. This is called lens light fall- off or drop in peripheral illumination.
This can be corrected. For JPEG images, lens light fall-off is corrected
when the image is captured. For RAW images, it can be corrected with

101 3 Lens Peripheral Illumination Correction The camera already contains lens peripheral illumination correction data for about 25 lenses. In step 2, if you select [ Enable], the peripheral light correction will be applied automatically for any lens whose correction data has been registered in the camera. With the EOS Utility (provided softwa re), you can check which lenses have their correction data registered in the camera. You can also register the correction data for unregi stered lenses. For details, see the Software Instruction Manual (CD-ROM) for EOS Utility. About the Lens Correction Data Lens peripheral light correction cannot be applied to JPEG images already captured. Depending on shooting conditions , noise might appear on the image periphery. When using a third-pa rty lens, setting the correction to [ Disable] is recommended, even if [ Correction data available] is displayed. Lens peripheral light co rrection is applied even when an Extender is attached. If the correction data for the attached lens has not been registered to the camera, the result will be the same as when the correction is set to [ Disable ]. The correction amount applied will be slightly lower than the maximum correction amount settable with Di gital Photo Professional (provided software). If the lens does not have distance in formation, the correction amount will be lower. The higher the ISO speed, the lowe r the correction amount will be.

When you press the shutter button completely, the mirror locks up, then the picture is taken 2 sec. later. Remote control shooting. Since you do not touch the camera when the picture is taken, remote control shooting together with mirror lockup can further prevent camera shake. With Remote Cont roller RC-5, pressing the transmit button locks up the mirror before the shot is taken 2 sec. later. With Remote Controller RC-1, set it to 2-sec. delay, then shoot. Preventing Camera Shake N Shooting Tips Do not point the camera toward the sun. The sun’s heat can scorch and damage the shutter curtains. If you use bulb exposures, the self-timer, and mirror lockup in combination, keep pressing the shutter button completely (self-timer delay time + bulb exposure time). If you let go of the shutter button during the self-timer countdown, there will be a shutter- release sound. However, this is not the act ual shutter release (no picture is taken). Even if < i> (Continuous shooting) has been set, single shooting will still take effect. The mirror locks up, and after 30 seconds, it will go back down automatically. Pressing the shutter button complete ly again locks up the mirror again.
105 Live View Shooting You can shoot while viewing the picture on the camera’s LCD monitor. This is called “Live View shooting.” Live View shooting is effective for still subjects which do not move. If you handhold the camera and shoot while viewing the LCD monitor, camera shake can cause blurred images. Using a tripod is recommended. About Remote Live View ShootingWith EOS Utility (provide d software) installed in your computer, you can connect the camera to the computer and shoot remotely while viewing the computer screen. Fo r details, see the Software Instruction Manual in the CD-ROM.
106 1Set the shooting mode. Set the shooting mode to a Creative Zone mode. Live View shooting cannot be used in Basic Zone modes. 2Display the Live View image. Press the < A> button. X The Live View image will appear on the LCD monitor. The Live View image will closely reflect the brightness level of the actual image you capture. If the standard exposure has not been obtained, turn the < 6> dial. The image’s field of view is about 100%. 3Focus the subject. Before shooting, focus with AF or manual focus (p.111-118). Press the < A> button to focus in the current AF mode. 4Take the picture. Press the shutter button completely. X The picture will be taken and the captured image is displayed on the LCD monitor. To Enable Live View Shooting Te m p e r a t u r eShooting Conditions No Flash 50% Flash Use At 23°C / 73°F190170 At 0°C / 32°F 180 160 During Live View shooting, do not point the lens toward the sun. The sun’s heat can dam age the camera’s in ternal components. Cautions for using Live View shooting are on pages 119-120. In the following cases, the shutter will sound like it took two shots, but only one shot will be taken. Duri ng continuous shooting, only the first shot will make two shutter sounds. y Flash shots. y ISO 3200 or higher is set.

Under the [ 6] tab, the [ Live View function settings ] menu options, [Grid display ], [Metering timer ], and [AF mode ] are as described below. Grid display With [ Grid 1 l] or [ Grid 2 m], you can display grid lines. Metering timerYou can change the display time of the exposure setting. AF modeYou can select [ Live mode] (p.111), [u Live mode ] (p.112), or [ Quick mode ] (p.116). While the Live View image is displayed on the LCD monitor, press so that the AF mode, Picture St yle, white balance, drive mode, and image-recording quality can be set. 1Press . Turn the < 6> dial to change the setting. Even while the Live View image is displayed, you can still set functions and execute playback < x>. If you select [ 2 Dust Delete Data ], [6 Sensor cleaning ], [7 Clear settings ], or [7 Firmware Ve r. ], the Live View shooting will be terminated. The metering mode will be fixed to evaluative metering for Live View shooting. Under the [ 7 Custom Functions (C.Fn) ] menu, if [Shutter/AE lock button ] (p.188) is set to [ 1: AE lock/AF], you can use AE lock by pressing the shut ter button halfway. To check the depth of field, pres s the depth-of-field preview button. During continuous shooting, the exposu re set for the first shot will also be applied to subsequent shots. Using < 8> will be the sa me as using . If the camera is not operated for a prolonged period, the power will turn off automatically as set with [ 5 Auto power off ] (p.131). If [5 Auto power off ] is set to [ Off], the Live View shooting will stop automatically after 30 min. (camer a power remains on). With the AV cable (provided) or HDM I cable (sold separately), you can display the Live View im age on a TV (p.156-157). You can also use a remote controller (sold separately, p.194) for Live View shooting.

If is blinking, it indicates that the Live View image is not being displayed at the suitable brightness due to low or bright light conditions. However, the captured image will reflect the exposure setting. If flash is used or bulb is set, the < g> icon and histogram will be grayed out (for your re ference). The histogram might not be properly displayed in low or br ight light conditions.
