41 3 Setting the Time Zone, Date and Time 1Display the menu screen. Press the < M> button. 2Under the [ 52] tab, select [Date/ Time]. On the Main Dial, press the < YA >/ < Z O > button to select the [ 52] tab. On the Main Dial, press the < Wj / i >/ button to select [Date/ Time ], then press < Q/0 >. 3Set the date and time. On the Main Dial, press the < YA >/ < Z O > button to select the number to be adjusted. Press < Q/0 > so < a> is displayed. On the Main Dial, press the < Wj / i >/ button to set the number, then press < Q/0 > (returns to < b >). Set the Date and Time The menu setting procedure is explained on pages 54-56. The time displayed on the lower right is the time difference compared with Coordinated Universal Time (UTC). If you do not see your time zone, set the time zone while referring to the difference with UTC. After changing the time zone, check that the correct date/time has been set. You can also set the daylight saving time with [ 52: Time zone]. The [ 52: Time zone ] and [52: Date/Time ] daylight saving time settings are linked.
3 Setting the Time Zone, Date and Time 42 4Set the dayli ght saving time. Set it if necessary. On the Main Dial, press the < YA >/ < Z O > button to select [ Y]. Press < Q/0 > so < a> is displayed. On the Main Dial, press the < Wj / i >/ button to select [Z ], then press < Q/0 >. When the daylight saving time is set to [Z ], the time set in step 3 will advance by 1 hour. If [ Y] is set, the daylight saving time will be canceled and the time will go back by 1 hour. 5Exit the setting. On the Main Dial, press the < YA > / < Z O > button to select [ OK], then press < Q/0 >. The date/time and daylight saving time will be set and the menu will reappear. If you remove the battery or the battery is exhausted, the time zone and date/time might be reset. If this happens, set the Time zone and Date/Time again. To synchronize the seconds, in step 5, press < Q/0 > at 0 sec.

On the Main Dial, press the < Wj / i >/ button to select [Language K] (the fifth from the top), then press < Q/0 >. 3Set the desired language. 44 The camera can use EF-M, EF, and EF-S lenses. To attach an EF or EF-S lens to the camera, Mount Adapter EF-EOS M is required. 1Remove the caps. Remove the rear lens cap and the body cap by turning them as shown by the arrows. 2Attach the lens. Align the lens’ index with the camera’s index. Turn the lens as shown by the arrow until it clicks in place. 3Remove the front lens cap. Attaching and Detaching a Lens Attaching a Lens Index Minimizing Dust When changing lenses, do it quickly in a place with minimal dust. When storing the camera without a lens attached, be sure to attach the body cap to the camera. Remove dust on the body cap before attaching it.
45 Attaching and Detaching a Lens While pressing the lens release button, turn the lens as shown by the arrow. Turn the lens until it stops, then detach it. Attach the rear lens cap to the detached lens. To zoom, turn the zoom ring on the lens with your fingers. If you want to zoom, do it before focusing. Turning the zoom ring after achieving focus may throw off the focus slightly. Detaching the Lens About Zooming Do not look at the sun directly through any lens. Doing so may cause loss of vision. If the front part (focusing ring) of the lens rotates during autofocusing, do not touch the rotating part. The focus preset function of some lenses cannot be used with this camera. Also, Power Zoom cannot be used even if you attach a lens featuring the Power Zoom function, like the EF 35-80mm f/4-5.6 POWER ZOOM. Since the image sensor size is smaller than the 35mm film format, it will look like the lens focal length is increased by approx. 1.6x.Image sensor size (Approx.)(22.3 x 14.9 mm / 0.88 x 0.59 in.) 35mm image size (36 x 24 mm / 1.42 x 0.94 in.) Example: An 18-55mm focal length would be equivalent to an approx. 29- 88mm focal length on a 35mm camera. Lens Focal Length (Image Conversion Factor)
46 When you use the IS lens’ built-in Image Stabilizer, camera shake is corrected to obtain a sharper shot. * IS stands for Image Stabilizer. Set it with the menu*. By default, it is set to [Enable]. 1Display the menu screen. Press the < M> button. 2Under the [ A2] tab, select [Image Stabilizer]. Press the < YA >/< ZO > button to select the [A 2] tab. Press the < Wj /i >/ button to select [Image Stabilizer ], then press < Q/0 >. 3Select [Enable]. Press the < Wj /i >/ button to select [Enable], then press < Q/ 0 >. 47 About the Lens Image Stabilizer Use the IS switch on the lens. Set the STABILIZER switch to . 1Press the shutter button halfway. The Image Stabilizer will operate. 2Take the picture. When the picture looks steady on the LCD monitor, press the shutter button completely to take the picture. With Lenses other than EF-M (Equipped with a Switch) Using the Image Stabilizer when Shooting The Image Stabilizer cannot correct “subject blur”, when the subject moves at the time of exposure. For bulb exposures, set the IS to < 2>. If < 1> is set, Image Stabilizer incorrect operation may occur. The Image Stabilizer may not be effective for excessive shaking such as on a rocking boat. The Image Stabilizer works in all focus modes. When the IS is set to < 2>, will appear on the screen. When using a tripod, you can still shoot with the IS set to < 1> with no problem. However, to save battery power, setting the IS to < 2> is recommended. The Image Stabilizer is effective even when the camera is mounted on a monopod.
48 To obtain sharp images, hold the camera still to minimize camera shake. 1. Wrap your right hand around the camera grip firmly. 2. Hold the lens bottom with your left hand. 3. Rest your hand’s right index finger lightly on the shutter button. 4. Press your arms and elbows lightly against the front of your body. 5. To maintain a stable stance, place one foot slightly ahead of the other. When shooting movies, be careful not to cover the microphone. 49 Basic Operation The shutter button has two steps. You can press the shutter button halfway. Then you can further press the shutter button completely. Pressing halfway The camera will focus and adjust the exposure automatically (shutter speed and aperture set automatically). The exposure setting (shutter speed and aperture) is displayed (8). Pressing completely This releases the shutter and takes the picture. Preventing Camera Shake Hand-held camera movement during the moment of exposure is called camera shake. It can cause blurred pictures. To prevent camera shake, note the following: • Hold and steady the camera as shown on the preceding page. • Press the shutter button halfway to autofocus, then slowly press the shutter button completely. Shutter Button If you press the shutter button completely without pressing it halfway first or if you press the shutter button halfway and then press it completely immediately, the camera will take a moment before it takes the picture. Even during menu display, image playback, or image recording, you can instantly go back to shooting-ready by pressing the shutter button halfway.
50 You can directly select and set the shooting functions displayed on the LCD monitor. This is called the Quick Control screen. There are two types of Quick Control screens: Q Quick Control and B Quick Control. 1Q Quick Control Tap [ Q] on the screen or press < Q/0>. B Quick Control Press and hold the < B> button until the B Quick Control screen shown on the next page appears. The Quick Control screen will appear. 2Set the desired function. Tap the function to be set. The selected function and Feature guide will appear. On the screen that appears, tap on the function and set it. There are also functions with more settings when you press the < B> button. To select and set the function, you can press the Main Dial’s < YA >, < Z O >, < Wj /i >, or < XL > button or turn the Main Dial. Quick Control
