Rout i ne Ma i nt e na nce 123 6 Cleaning6 Clean the outside and inside of the printer regularly with a dry, lint-free cloth. When you replace the toner cartridge or the drum unit, make sure that you clean the inside of the printer. If printed pages are stained with toner, clean the inside of the printer with a dry, lint-free cloth. Cleaning the outside of the printer6 WARNING Use neutral detergents. Cleaning with volatile liquids such as thinner or benzine will damage the surface of the printer. DO NOT use cleaning materials that contain ammonia. DO NOT use flammable substances near the printer. Doing this might cause a fire or electrical shock. aTurn off the printer power switch and then unplug the printer. bPull the paper tray completely out of the printer.
Rout i ne Ma i nt e na nce 124 6 cWipe the outside of the printer with a dry, lint-free cloth to remove dust. dRemove anything that is stuck inside the paper tray. eWipe the inside of the paper tray with a dry, lint-free cloth to remove dust. fPut the paper tray back in the printer. gPlug the printer back in, and then turn on the power switch. Cleaning the inside of the scanner windows6 aTurn off the printer power switch and then unplug the printer.

Lift the drum unit up and then pull it out until it stops. dRelease the gray lock lever (1) that is on the left side of the printer. Pull the drum unit completely out of the printer using the green handles on the drum unit. 1
Rout i ne Ma i nt e na nce 126 6 CAUTION Hold the green handles of the drum unit when you carry it. DO NOT hold the sides of the drum unit. We recommend that you place the drum unit on a clean, flat surface with a piece of disposable paper underneath it in case you accidentally spill or scatter toner. To prevent damage to the printer from static electricity, DO NOT touch the electrodes shown in the illustration. eWipe the scanner windows (1) with a dry, lint-free cloth. 1
Rout i ne Ma i nt e na nce 127 6 fPut the drum unit back in the printer as follows. 1Make sure that the gray lock lever (1) is in the up position and put the drum unit in the printer. Push down the gray lock lever (1). Note When you put the drum unit in the printer, match the green guides (1) of the drum unit handle to the green arrows (2) on both sides of the machine. 2Push the drum unit in until it stops. gClose the front cover. hPlug the printer back in, and then turn on the power switch. 11 2 1 2 1
Rout i ne Ma i nt e na nce 128 6 Cleaning the corona wires6 If you have print quality problems, clean the corona wires as follows: aTurn off the printer power switch. Press the front cover release button and then open the front cover. bHold the green handle of the drum unit. Lift the drum unit up and then pull it out until it stops.
Rout i ne Ma i nt e na nce 129 6 cHold the handle of the toner cartridge and pull it out of the drum unit. Repeat this for all the toner cartridges. CAUTION We recommend that you place the toner cartridge on a clean, flat surface with a piece of disposable paper underneath it in case you accidentally spill or scatter toner. DO NOT put a toner cartridge into a fire. It could explode, resulting in injuries. Handle the toner cartridge carefully. If toner scatters on your hands or clothes, wipe or wash it off with cold water at once. To avoid print quality problems, DO NOT touch the shaded parts shown in the illustrations.

CAUTION Be sure to return the tab to the home position a (1).
