15Notification Panel Know Your Device Notification icons display on the Status Bar displaying calendar events, device status, and more. For details about these notifications, open the Notification Panel. View the Notification Panel 1. Swipe down on the Status Bar to display the Notification Panel. 2. S croll down the list to see notification details. • Tap an item to open it. • To clear a single notification, drag the notification left or right. Tap Clear to clear all notifications. 3. T o close the Notification Panel, swipe upward from the bottom of the screen or tap the Back key. Quick Settings In addition to notifications, the Notification Panel also provides quick access to device functions such as Wi-Fi, allowing you to quickly turn them on or off. ► T o view additional Quick settings, tap View all. 16S Pen Know Your Device S Pen The S Pen is a stylus that assists you in performing different functions. Switch between touch and pen input by using the S Pen button. Remove S Pen The S Pen stores inside your device for convenient access. ► S lide the S Pen from your device using the notch on the end of the S Pen. Air Command Air command allows you to quickly activate frequently used applications or perform actions. To launch the Air command menu: ► Remo ve the S Pen from the S Pen slot, hold the S Pen near the screen so that the pointer appears, and press the S Pen button once. Action memo: Launch a memo and link it to actions. Action Memos are saved in the S Note app. Smart select: Draw around an area with the S Pen to collect a variety of content. Image clip: Outline and crop images on the screen, in any shape, to share or paste. S creen write: Capture screenshots and write or draw on them. DRAFT FOR INTERNAL USE ONLY
17S Pen Know Your Device Action Memo An Action Memo is a Quick Note that is linked to actions. To open a Quick Note: ► L aunch the Air command menu and select Action memo. – or – Press and hold the S Pen button and double-tap the screen with the pen. Note : You can find Action Memos in the S Note app. They are saved under Quick Note. See Action Memos for more information. S Note The S Note app helps you create memos, notes, and sketches. To open S Note: ► L aunch the Air command menu and select S Note. – or – From a Home screen, tap Apps > S Note. See S Note for more information. Smart Select Smart select is a capture tool to select content on a screen. To launch the Smart select tool: ►L aunch the Air command menu and select Smart select. To capture an item on the screen, simply draw around the item. The captured item appears on the screen and can be saved to the Scrapbook. You can add a title, text, a handwritten memo, and tags. See Scrapbook for more information. Image Clip Outline and crop images from the screen, in any shape, to share or paste. You can edit the cropped content, or personalize it with your own handwriting. To use Image clip: 1. L aunch the Air command menu and select Image clip. 2. Use t he S Pen to draw around the content you wish to capture. 3. T he selected clip is centered on the screen. To refine your selection, use the Transform buttons. You can choose your hand drawn shape, regular shapes, or a magnetic auto shape. 4. Onc e you decide on a shape, select an app from the scrolling tray at the bottom of the screen. Drag the tray right or left to see which apps can use or save the clip. Screen Write Screen Write allows you to capture a screen shot and then write notes on the screen shot. To use Screen Write: 1. L aunch the Air command menu and select Screen write. 2. T he current screen is captured and a pen tool appears. The following editing tools are provided: • Draw: Write on the screen shot. Press the Pen icon a second time to change the pen tip, size, color, and to save presets. • Erase: Erase the writing or drawings on the screen shot. Tap the Eraser icon a second time to change the size of the eraser area and to see the Clear all option. • Crop: Crop the screenshot. Tap the Crop icon a second time to change the shape to either Lasso or Rectangle. • Undo: Undo the last action. • Redo: Redo the last action. DRAFT FOR INTERNAL USE ONLY
18S Pen Know Your Device 3. When you are finished writing, either tap the Check Mark to save the screen shot or tap the Delete to delete the shot. You can also tap the Share icon to share the image using another app. The screen shot is saved in the Gallery app. Air View Hover the S Pen over the screen to preview content or view information about an item on the screen. For example: • Hover over an email in a list to preview the message before opening it. • Hover over a photo album to preview the contents or see a picture enlarged. • Hover over the time line during video playback to preview and navigate to specific scenes. • Hover over an icon or screen button to view the item’s name or description. Note : The preview function is only available when the S Pen’s onscreen pointer is a solid color. For more information, see S Pen . Direct Pen Input When filling out a form field in an app (like Name or Number in Contacts) , you can open a Handwriting window to allow you to write the entry with the S Pen rather than type. To use the Handwriting window: 1. W hen filling out a form field, hover the S Pen over the field until the Handwriting icon appears. 2. T ap the Handwriting icon. The Handwriting window appears. 3. Use t he space provided in the window to write the entry by hand using the S Pen. While writing, your entries will be converted into text. 4. T o edit the converted text, use the Space and Delete icons provided. To change the position of the cursor, drag the pointer below the cursor to the desired position for editing. 5. W hen finished, press the Check Mark. Idea Sketch Express your ideas with an image. Add illustrations by handwriting keywords on the Idea Sketch pad. 1. F rom a Home screen, tap Apps > S Note. 2. T ap Create note to create a new note. • Select a picture and tap More options > Insert > Idea Sketch. • Write a search keyword or select a category. • Tap an image to insert it into your note. 19S Pen Know Your Device Add Annotations to Your Photos Use S Pen to annotate your photos. Note : Adding annotations to a photo creates a copy of the photo. The original photo is not modified. 1. F rom a Home screen, tap Apps > Gallery. 2. W hile viewing a photo, tap More options > Flash Annotation. 3. Use t he S Pen to annotate the photo. Tap Done to save the annotated photo. Configure S Pen Settings For information on configuring S Pen settings, including options for sounds and for tracking S Pen when it’s not stored in your device, see S Pen . Replace the S Pen Tip You can replace the tip of the S Pen. To replace the tip: 1. Use t weezers (not included) to pull out the S Pen tip (1) . 2. 20Multi Window Know Your Device Multitask by using multiple applications at the same time. Activate Multi Window 1. From a Home screen, tap Apps > Settings > Device > Multi window. 2. T ap ON/OFF to activate. • Tap Open in multi window view to automatically view content in Multi window when you open files from My Files or Video player, or attachments from email. Tip: You can also activate Multi window from the Notification Panel. Using Multi Window After enabling Multi Window, you can use it to run multiple apps at the same time. Note : Only apps located on the Multi Window tray can be used together. Additional Multi Window apps are available from the Google Play Store. The apps display together on a split screen. You can switch between the apps, adjust the size of their display on the screen, and copy information from one app to the other. 1. T o display the Multi Window tray, touch and hold the Back key. 21Multi Window Know Your Device Window Controls Select an application window and tap in the middle of the windows to display the window controls: Switch: Switch windows between Multi window applications. Share: Share items between the application windows. Drag an item to share from one window to another. Some applications may not support this feature. Collapse: Collapse the selected window. Open : Open the selected window in full screen view. Close app : Close the selected app. Customize Multi Window You can customize Multi window to suit your preferences. Create a Window Group If you use certain apps together in Multi window often, you can create a window group to quickly display the two apps in Multi window. The window group will be stored in the Multi window tray, so you can choose it any time to display the two apps. 1. T ap the Multi window tab to display the tray, and then drag apps to the windows. 2. S croll to the bottom of the Multi window tray, and then tap Panel Controls > Create . Change the Order of Apps in the Multi Window Tray 1. Tap the Multi window tab to display the tray. 2. T ap an hold an app, drag it to a new position in the tray and then drop it. Choose Apps to Display in the Multi Window Tray You can choose the apps you want to display in the Multi window tray. 1. T ap the Multi window tab to display the tray. 2. T ap Panel Controls > Edit for options: • To remove an app from the panel, tap and drag it off of the panel and place it in the storage area. • To add an app to the panel, tap and drag it from the storage area to the panel. • To relocate an app, tap and drag it to a new location. 22Entering Text Know Your Device Using the Samsung Keyboard Type your text input using a QWERTY keyboard. Special Keys Tap to insert numbers and symbols. Touch and hold the Options key to: Use Google Voice Typing. Use your handwriting to enter text. Access the clipboard. Access keyboard settings. Insert emoticons. Change the layout of the keyboard. Configure the Samsung Keyboard To customize the Samsung Keyboard, see Samsung Keyboard Settings . Using Google Voice Typing Instead of typing, speak your text input. 1. To enable Google Voice Typing: • From a Home screen, tap Apps > Settings > General > Language and input. • Tap the check box next to Google voice typing to enable this feature. 2. On t he Samsung Keyboard, tap Google Voice Typing. You may need to touch and hold the Options key (left of the Space key) to find it. 3. Spe ak your text. 23Entering Text Know Your Device Using Swype Swype is a text input method that makes it possible to enter a word by sliding your finger or stylus from letter to letter, lifting your finger between words. Enabling and Configuring Swype To enable the Swype keyboard while entering text: 1. T ouch the top of the screen and swipe downward to display the Notification Panel. 2.
