105Language and Input Settings Settings Google Voice Typing Settings Speak rather than type your text entries using Google Voice Typing. 1. F rom a Home screen, tap Apps > Settings > General. 2. T ap Language and input. 3. T ap Settings next to Google voice typing for options: • Choose input languages: Select languages for Google voice typing. • Block offensive words: Hide words many people find offensive are in results of Google voice searches. Offensive words are replaced in results with a placeholder (####) . • Offline speech recognition: Download and install speech recognition engines, allowing you to use voice input while not connected to the network. Keeper FastFill Keeper FastFill conveniently and quickly auto-fills passwords on your mobile apps and browsers. To activate Keeper FastFill : 1. F rom a Home screen, tap Apps > Settings > General > Language and input. 2. T ap Keeper FastFill to create a check mark and enable the feature. For more information, see Keeper . Handwriting Recognition Language Handwriting can be recognized in S Note and Action Memo. Use this option to select a language that will be used by the device to recognize your handwriting. 1. F rom a Home screen, tap Apps > Settings > General > Language and input. 2. Under HANDWRITING RECOGNITION, tap Language. 3. T ap More languages to select a new language. Voice Search Use Google voice recognition to perform Google searches using spoken commands. To perform a voice search, tap in the Google search bar or widget. Or say “Ok Google” to launch a Google search (if the hotword detection option is enabled) . 1. F rom a Home screen, tap Apps > Settings > General. 2. T ap Language and input > Voice search for options. • Tap “Ok Google” Detection to launch a Google search whenever you say “Ok Google.” • Additional options include selecting a default language, blocking offensive words, and more. 106Language and Input Settings Settings Text-To-Speech Options Configure your Text-To-Speech (TTS) options. TTS is used for various accessibility features, such as TalkBack. For more information, see Accessibility . 1. F rom a Home screen, tap Apps > Settings > General. 2. T ap Language and input > Text-to-speech options for options: • Choose either the Samsung or Goggle text-t o- speech engine. Tap Settings next to each TTS engine for options. • Speech rate: Set the speed at which the text is spoken. • Listen to an example: Play a sample of speech synthesis (available if voice data is installed) . • Default language status: Display the default language in use. Read New Notifications Aloud Set the device to read new notifications aloud for incoming calls, messages, and emails, as well as caller or sender information. 1. F rom a Home screen, tap Apps > Settings > General. 2. T ap Language and input > Read notifications aloud. 3. T ouch ON/OFF to enable each option. Mouse/Trackpad Settings This option sets your Pointer speed for your mouse or trackpad when you are using a keyboard dock accessory. 1. F rom a Home screen, tap Apps > Settings > General. 2. 107Date and Time Settings Settings By default, your device receives date and time information from the wireless network. When you are outside network coverage, you may want to set date and time information manually using the date and time settings.1. From a Home screen, tap Apps > Settings > General. 2. 108Safety Assistance Settings Safety Assistance Receive real-time information about emergencies and severe weather conditions. You can also enable Emergency mode: a power-conserving mode that restricts certain apps and functions while allowing access to Messages, Contacts, and emergency calls. Emergency Mode Use Emergency mode to conserve batter power during emergencies. Power-hungry apps and functions are disable, but you are still able to send messages, use Contacts, and make emergency calls. 1. F rom a Home screen, tap Apps > Settings > General > Safety Assistance. 2. T ap Emergency mode. 3. T ap ON/OFF to turn the feature on. Geo News Receive information about weather, environmental situations, and geological information for your location during emergencies. 1. F rom a Home screen, tap Apps > Settings > General > Safety Assistance. 2. T ap Geo News. 3. T ap ON/OFF to turn the feature on. 4. T ap Geo News notification pop-ups to receive pop-up alerts. Send Help Messages Send a quick alert to your primary contacts when you are in an emergency situation. To enable this feature: 1. F rom a Home screen, tap Apps > Settings > General > Safety Assistance. 2. T ap Send help messages. 3. Ta p ON/OFF to turn the feature on. The following options are available: • Send pictures: Send photos taken with the front and back cameras to your emergency contacts. • Send sound recording: Send a short audio message to your emergency contacts. To send a help message: ► Pr ess the Power/Lock key quickly three times. Manage Primary Contacts Select contacts or create new ones to be your emergency contacts. These contacts automatically receive your help message. 1. F rom a Home screen, tap Apps > Settings > General > Safety Assistance. 2. T ap Manage primary contacts. 3. T ap Create primary contact: • Tap Create contact to enter a name and phone number for a new emergency contact • Tap Select from contacts to designate a contact to be an emergency contact. 109Accessories Settings Configure options when using HDMI audio devices (not included) or using a book cover (not included) . 1. From a Home screen, tap Apps > Settings > General. 2. T ap Accessories for options: • Dock sound: Play a sound when inserting and removing the device from a dock. • Audio output: Select a sound output format to use when connecting your device to HDMI devices (not included) . 110Battery Settings View how battery power is used for device activities. 1. From a Home screen, tap Apps > Settings > General. 2. T ap Battery for options: • Fast charging: Enable fast charging mode. • Show battery percentage: Display the battery charge percentage next to the battery icon on the Status bar. • Battery Chart: The battery level displays as a percentage. The amount of time the battery has been used also displays. • Apps and OS Usage: Battery usage displays in percentages per application. -Tap Screen, Android System, Android OS, or an app to view they are affecting battery use. • Tap Refresh to update the listing. 111Power Saving Settings Conserve battery power by automatically adjusting the screen brightness, limiting the performance of the CPU, and other power reduction activities. Ultra power saving mode saves even more battery power by using a gray scale theme on the Home screen and limiting the number of usable apps.1. From a Home screen, tap Apps > Settings > General. 2. T ap Power saving for options: • Power saving mode: Tap ON/OFF to turn the feature on. Tap Power saving mode to select options. • Ultra power saving mode: Tap ON/OFF to turn the feature on. 112Storage Settings Storage View the device memory and usage, or mount, unmount, or format an optional memory card (not included) . Device Memory View and manage the memory used by the device. 1. F rom a Home screen, tap Apps > Settings > General. 2. T ap Storage . • The DEVICE MEMORY displays Total space and Available space. • The amounts of memory used by Applications, Pictures and videos, Audio, Downloads, Cached data, and Miscellaneous files are also displayed. To increase available memory: 1. T ap Cached data to clear all cached data for all apps. 2. T ap Miscellaneous files, select unnecessary files (or tap Select all) , and then tap Delete . Memory Card (SD Card) Once an optional memory card (not included) has been installed in your device, the card memory displays as Total space and Available space. Install a Memory Card You can use an optional microSD or microSDHC card (not included) to add additional memory space to your device. 1. Remove the back cover. 2. 113Storage Settings Mount a Memory Card When you install an optional memory card, it is automatically mounted (connected to the device) and prepared for use. However, should you unmount the card without removing it from the device, you will need to mount it before it can be accessed. 1. F rom a Home screen, tap Apps > Settings > General. 2. T ap Storage . Unmount an SD Card To prevent damage to information stored on the memory card, always unmount the card before removing it from the device. Unmounting an SD card may stop some applications from functioning until you mount the SD card again. 1. F rom a Home screen, tap Apps > Settings > General. 2. T ap Storage > Tap Unmount SD card. Remove a Memory Card Warning! To prevent damage to information stored on the memory card, unmount the card before removing it from the device. 1. F rom a Home screen, tap Apps > Settings > General. 2. T ap Storage > Tap Unmount SD card. 3. Open t he memory card slot cover and turn to expose the slot. 4. G ently press inward on the memory card so that it pops out from the slot and carefully pull the card out. 5. Close t he memory card slot cover. Formatting an SD Card Warning! When formatting an SD card, you should backup your music and photo files that are stored on the card because formatting the SD card deletes all the stored data. 1. 114Security Settings Secure your device and protect your data with Security settings. Device Administration Manage your device administrators and application installation privileges. 1. F rom a Home screen, tap Apps > Settings > General. 2. T ap Security for options: • Device administrators: Add or remove device administrators. • Unknown sources: Enable installation of non - G oogle Play applications. • Verify apps: Block or warn before installing apps that may cause harm. Warning! Enabling installation of third-party applications can cause your device and personal data to be more vulnerable to attacks by unknown sources. Encrypt Your Data Require a numeric PIN or password to decrypt your device each time you power it on or encrypt the data on a memory card (not included) each time it is connected. 1. F rom a Home screen, tap Apps > Settings > General. 2. T ap Security for options: • Tap Encrypt device and follow the prompts to encrypt all data on your device. • Tap Encrypt external SD card to encrypt data on a memory card (not included) . Locate a Lost Device Protect your device from loss or theft allowing your device to be locked, tracked, and for your data to be deleted remotely. Note : You must sign up for a Samsung account and enable Google location service to use Remote controls. 1. F rom a Home screen, tap Apps > Settings > General. 2. T ap Security > Remote controls and follow the prompts to set up Remote controls. 3. T ap SIM change alert to set up an alert when a different, unregistered SIM is activated on the device. 4. T ap Go to website to manage your Find My Mobile account. 5. T o prevent your device from being reactivated after being reset, touch Reactivation lock. Finding Your Phone To access your device remotely, visit findmymobile.samsung.com . Set Up or Change Password Use this option to set up your password when one is first required or change your current password. 1. F rom a Home screen, tap Apps > Settings > General. 2.
