www.aleratec.com3 Technical Tips Before starting any procedure, inspect the disc to be repaired to determ\ ine the type of procedure needed. It is generally recommended to begin with \ the Disc Cleaning procedure first, and if necessary move to the more intensive procedures. Use the following as general guidelines for using your DVD/CD Disc Repair Plus system: Minor Damage The following symptoms may indicate minor damage: scrambled screen, signal skipping, abnormal noise, unstable signal, or cannot read file. Recommendations: Preform the Disc Cleaning procedure, then test the disc\ for improvements. If disc is not sufficiently restored, follow with the Disc Repair procedure. Major Damage Symptoms indicating Major Damage include frozen screen, no sound, no loading, system, or drive is not accessible. Recommendations: First clean the disc with the Disc Cleaning procedure. \ Next, use the Disc Buffing procedure and finish with the Disc Repair procedure. Check for improvements to the disc’s condition. If not repaired, repeat the Disc Repair procedure until the disc is sufficiently restored.
www.aleratec.com 4 Disc Cleaning Procedure The Disc Cleaning procedure removes surface contaminants such as dust, dirt, finger prints, smudges, smears and stains. Open the kit and remove the cleaning head marked “WET”. 1. Remove the cleaning head cover and then use the plastic 2. end of the brush to remove the cleaning head and the spring. Remove the cleaning solution from the kit. Then, fill the 3. cleaning unit with solution until 80% full. Note: Upon initial use, a sharp object such as a safety pin must be used to puncture the mouth of the bottle. Then replace the spring and the cleaning head. 4. Open the top cover and place the cleaning heads marked 5. “WET” and “DRY” in their respective places, as indicated on the machine. Once in, rotate each of them in a counterclockwise direction until secure.
www.aleratec.com5 Disc Cleaning Procedure Insert the disc (data-side facing downward) and then close 6. the top cover. Press the CLEAN button to begin the cleaning process, 7. which lasts approximately 20 seconds. The machine will automatically stop when the cleaning process has finished. Once the disc is cleaned, press the OPEN button and 8. remove the disc. Re-attach the cleaning head cover. 9. Note: During continuous usage, the “Dry” cleaning head will gather moisture. If it becomes too damp, either replace it with another dry cleaning head or discontinue use until it is sufficiently dry.
www.aleratec.com 6 Disc Repair Procedure The Disc Repair procedure is used to polish scratches, scrapes, and othe\ r abrasions. It also adds a protective layer to the disc. Open the top cover by pressing the OPEN button. 1. Remove both of the circular repair heads from the repair 2. protective kit. Rotate the repair units in a counterclockwise motion until 3. secure. Place 3 drops of the repair protective solution on the side of 4. the repair head marked “WET”. Insert the disc (data-side facing downward) and then close 5. the top cover. Press the REPAIR button to begin the repairing process, 6. which lasts approximately two minutes. The machine will automatically stop when the process is complete. Press OPEN to remove the disc. 7. Gently wipe the disc with the included microfiber cloth to 8. remove any residue remaining from the repair process. Check for improvements in the ability to play/read the disc. 9. If the disc has not been sufficiently recovered, repeat the Disc Repair procedure.
