    Black Level
With this option you can set what the scanner should interpret as “black” in the final image. If you are scanning
items that have notes written with a pencil, you may want to raise the black level to have the pencil notes appear
black in the image. You can set a value for black from 0 to 127. If you set this value to 127, you are telling the
scanner that all pixels that are grey level 127 or lower (darker) should appear as black in the final image. This option
is only available when scanning in Color or Gray.

    Connect to Another Scanner
Using the pass through USB port on the back of the Xerox DocuMate 4700 scanner, you can connect with another
Xerox desktop scanner to add the options for the second scanner to the TWAIN interface for the Xerox DocuMate
    4700.
    1. Install the driver for the Xerox desktop scanner you want to connect to the Xerox DocuMate 4700 scanner. For
example, if you have a Xerox DocuMate 4799, install the driver for that scanner before proceeding with these
    instructions.
For a list of scanners the Xerox DocuMate 4700 will connect to, please visit the Xerox DocuMate 4700 product
    support page at www.xeroxscanners.com.
    2. At the end of the DocuMate 4799 scanner driver installation, you will be prompted to plug the scanner into the
computer and a wall outlet. Follow the instructions on screen for connecting the power supply to the scanner
and to a wall outlet, but use the diagram below as a guide to connect the USB cable for the Xerox
DocuMate 4799 to the Xerox DocuMate 4700.
    3. Make sure the Xerox DocuMate 4700’s power is on and then turn on the Xerox DocuMate 4799 scanner.
    4. Your computer recognizes that a scanner has been plugged into the USB port and automatically loads the
appropriate software to run the scanner.
    5. Open the scanner's hardware properties page.
From Visioneer OneTouch (if it is installed):
    – Right-click on the OneTouch icon and choose Show Hardware from the pop-up menu.
The Hardware Properties dialog box opens and shows information about your Xerox DocuMate 4700.

    							Xerox® DocuMate® 4700
User’s Guide165 3. If this is the first time PaperPort has been opened, you will automatically be prompted to select a scanner. If
this prompt does not open, click on the Select… button to open the select scanner window.

options may include Duplex (double-sided) scanning, double page feed detection, long document scanning, and so

    Driver Configuration
Use the Driver configuration section to configure the add-on modules, select interface options, and view the
scanner hardware properties. When the Advanced configuration mode is selected, a scanner panel option will be
available for you to change any hardware settings that may be available for your scanner.
    Disabled Options in this Section
Some options in the interface may be grayed out and cannot be selected. Grayed out options are either not
appropriate for the current scanner, the software needed to enable the feature is not installed, or the feature is
dependent on another setting in the scanner's interface. Hover the mouse cursor over a grayed out feature to see
information about why the feature is unavailable.
    Module Configuration
When image processing modules are installed they will appear in the list on the Configure tab. Use this tab to
enable the modules you want to use when scanning.

    							Xerox® DocuMate® 4700
User’s Guide 168 There are some features in the scanner interface that are disabled until a module is installed that contains those
options. When the module is installed, the features will enable in the scanner interface for you to use them.
    Reordering the Modules
Select a module in the list and click the up or down arrow to change the order of the module in the list. Changing the
order of the modules changes the order in which the image processing options are used. For example, if there are
two modules installed and both modules include an automatic image rotation option, the first module's rotate
option is used and the rotate setting in the second module is ignored so that the image is not rotated twice.
    Scanner Configuration
The scanner configuration tab shows the hardware information for your scanner.
When you connect another scanner to the Xerox DocuMate 4700 scanner the Driver Configuration section will have
two scanner specific tabs. You will need to refer to the scanner’s user guide, for the second scanner, for instructions
on modifying any of the scanner specific options in this section.
