7ViewSonic PJ358 Setting up WARNING ►Place the projector n a stable horzontal poston. If the projector falls or s knocked over t could cause njury and/or damage to the projector. Using a damaged projector could then result in fire and/or electric shock. • Do not place the projector on an unstable, slanted or vbratonal surface such as a wobbly or nclned stand. • Do not place the projector on ts sde, front or rear poston. • Consult wth your dealer before a specal nstallaton such as suspendng from a celng. ►Place the projector in a cool place, and ensure that there is sufficient ventilation. The high temperature of the projector could cause fire, burns and/ or malfuncton of the projector. • Do not stop-up, block or otherwse cover the projector's vents. • Keep a space of 30 cm or more between the sdes of the projector and other objects such as walls. • Do not place the projector on metallc thng or anythng weak n heat. • Do not place the projector on carpet, cushons or beddng. • Do not place the projector n drect sunlght or near hot objects such as heaters. • Do not anythng near the projector lens or vents, or on top of the projector. • Do not place anythng that may be sucked nto or stck to the vents on the bottom of the projector. Ths projector has some ntake vents also on the bottom. ►Do not place the projector anyplace where it may get wet. Getting the projector wet or inserting liquid into the projector could cause fire, electric shock and/or malfuncton of the projector. • Do not place the projector n a bathroom or the outdoors. • Do not place anythng contanng lqud near the projector. CAUTION ►Avoid placing the projector in smoky, humid or dusty place. Placing the projector in such places could cause fire, electric shock and/or malfuncton of the projector. • Do not place the projector near humidifiers, smoking spaces or a kitchen. ►Position the projector to prevent light from directly hitting the projector's remote sensor.
8ViewSonic PJ358 Setting up Connecting your devices Be sure to read the manuals for devces before connectng them to the projector. Make sure that all the devces are sutable to be connected wth ths product, and prepare the cables requred to connect. Please refer to the followng llustratons to connect them. WARNING ►Do not disassemble or modify the projector and accessories. ►Be careful not to damage the cables, and do not use damaged cables. CAUTION ►Turn off all devices and unplug their power cords prior to connectng them to projector. Connectng a lve devce to the projector may generate extremely loud noses or other abnormaltes that may result n malfuncton or damage to the devce and the projector. ►Use appropriate accessory or otherwise designed cables. Ask your dealer about non-accessory cables which may have to be of a specific length or equpped wth a core. For cables wth a core only at one end, connect the end wth the core to the projector. ►Make sure that devices are connected to the correct ports. An incorrect connect on may result n malfunct on or damage to the devce and the projector. NOTE • The COMPUTER IN1 port can support a component sgnal also. For more nformaton, please see the descrpton of the COMPUTER IN tem of the INPUT menu. 9ViewSonic PJ358 Setting up NOTE • Be sure to read the manuals for devces before connectng them to the projector, and make sure that all the devces are sutable to be connected wth ths product. Before connectng to a PC, check the sgnal level, the sgnal tmng, and the resoluton. - Some sgnal may need an adapter to nput ths projector. - Some PCs have multple screen dsplay modes that may nclude some sgnals whch are not supported by ths projector. - Although the projector can dsplay sgnals wth resoluton up to UXGA (1600X1200), the sgnal wll be converted to the projector’s panel resoluton before beng dsplayed. The best dsplay performance wll be acheved f the resolutons of the nput sgnal and the projector panel are dentcal. • While connecting, make sure that the shape of the cable's connector fits the port to connect wth. And be sure to tghten the screws on connectors wth screws. • When connectng a laptop PC to the projector, be sure to actvate the PC’s external RGB output. (Set the laptop PC to CRT dsplay or to smultaneous LCD and CRT dsplay.) For detals on how ths s done, please refer to the nstructon manual of the correspondng laptop PC. • When the pcture resoluton s changed on a pc dependng on an nput, automatc adjustment functon may take some tme and may not be completed. In ths case, you may not be able to see a check box to select “Yes/No” for the new resoluton on Wndows. Then the resoluton wll go back to the orgnal. It mght be recommended to use other CRT or LCD montors to change the resoluton. • In some cases, ths projector may not dsplay a proper pcture or dsplay any pcture on screen. For example, automatc adjustment may not functon correctly wth some nput sgnals. An nput sgnal of composte sync or sync on G may confuse ths projector, so the projector may not dsplay a proper pcture. About Plug-and-Play capability Plug-and-Play s a system composed of a PC, ts operatng system and perpheral equpment (.e. dsplay devces). Ths projector s VESA DDC 2B compatble. Plug-and- Play can be used by connectng ths projector to a pc that s VESA DDC (dsplay data channel) compatble. • Take advantage of ths feature by connectng an RGB cable to the COMPUTER IN1 port (DDC 2B compatble). Plug-and-Play may not work properly f any other type of connecton s attempted. • Please use the standard drvers n your pc as ths projector s a Plug-and-Play montor. 10ViewSonic PJ358 Setting up Using a USB storage In order to vew mages stored n a USB storage, such as a USB memory stck, nsert the devce nto the USB STORAGE port. For more nformaton, please see the “USB STORAGE”. Turn the projector off pror to removng the USB storage from the USB STORAGE port, to prevent some troubles. Connecting power supply 1. Put the connector of the power cord nto the AC nlet of the projector. 2. Frmly plug the power cord’s plug nto the outlet. In a couple of seconds after the power supply connecton, the POWER ndcator wll lght up n steady orange. Please remember that when the AUTO ON functon actvated, the connecton of the power supply make the projector turn on. WARNING ► Please use extra cauton when connectng the power cord, as incorrect or faulty connections may result in fire and/or electrical shock. • Only use the power cord that came wth the projector. If t s damaged, contact your dealer to newly get correct one. • Only plug the power cord nto an outlet rated for use wth the power cord's specified voltage range. The power outlet should be close to the projector and easly accessble. Remove the power cord for complete separaton. • Never modfy the power cord. 11ViewSonic PJ358 Remote control Putting batteries Please set the batteres to the remote control before usng t. If the remote control starts to malfuncton, try to replace the batteres. If you wll not use the remote control for long perod, remove the batteres from the remote control and store them n a safe place. 1. Holdng the hook part of the battery cover, remove t. 2. Algn and nsert the two AA batteres accordng to ther plus and mnus termnals as ndcated n the remote control. 3. Replace the battery cover n the d rect on of the arrow and snap t back nto place. Remote control WARNING ► Always handle the batteres wth care and use them only as drected. Improper use may result n battery exploson, crackng or leakage, which could result in fire, injury and/or pollution of the surrounding environment. • Be sure to use only the batteries specified. Do not use batteries of dif ferent types at the same tme. Do not mx a new battery wth used one. • Make sure the plus and m nus term nals are correctly al gned when load ng a battery. • Keep a battery away from chldren and pets. • Do not recharge, short crcut, solder or dsassemble a battery. • Do not allow a battery in a fire or water. Keep batteries in a dark, cool and dry place. • If you observe a leakage of a battery, wipe out the flower and then replace a battery. If the flower adheres your body or clothes, rinse well with water immediately. • Obey the local laws on d spos ng the battery. About the remote control signal T h e r e m o t e c o n t r o l w o r k s w t h t h e p r o j e c t o r ’s remote sensor. Ths projector has a remote sensor on the front. The sensor senses the s gnal w th n the follow ng range when the sensor s actve: 60 degrees (30 degrees to the left and rght of the sensor) wthn 3 meters about. NOTE • The remote control signal reflected in the screen or the like may be available. If it is difficult to send the signal to the sensor directly , attempt to make the signal reflect. • The remote control uses nfrared lght to send sgnals to the projector (Class 1 LED), so be sure to use the remote control n an area free from obstacles that could block the remote control’s sgnal to the projector. • The remote control may not work correctly f strong lght (such as drect sun lght) or lght from an extremely close range (such as from an inverter fluorescent lamp) shines on the remote sensor of the projector. 12ViewSonic PJ358 Changing the frequency of remote control signal The accessory remote control has the two choces on sgnal frequency Mode 1 and Mode 2. If the remote control does not functon properly, attempt to change the sgnal frequency. In order to set the Mode, please keep pressng the combnaton of two buttons lsted below smultaneously for about 3 seconds. (1) Set to Mode 1: MUTE and RESET buttons (2) Set to Mode 2: MAGNIFY OFF and ESC buttons Please remember that the REMOTE FREQ. n the SERVICE tem of the OPTION menu of the projector to be controlled should be set to the same mode as the remote control. Remote control Using as a simple PC mouse & keyboard The enclosed remote control works as a smple mouse and keyboard of the PC, when the projector's USB port (B type) connects wth the PC's mouse port va a mouse cable. (1) HOME key: Press the HOME button.(2) END key: Press the END button.(3) PAGE UP key: Press the PAGE UP button.(4) PAGE DOWN key: Press the PAGE DOWN button.(5) Mouse left button: Press the ENTER button.(6) Move pointer: Use the cursor buttons ▲, ▼, ◄ and ►.(7) ESC key: Press the ESC button.(8) Mouse right button: Press the RESET button. NOTE • When the smple mouse & keyboard functon of ths product does not work correctly, please check the followng. - When the mouse cable connects ths projector wth a PC havng a bult-n pontng devce (e.g. track ball) lke a notebook PC, open BIOS setup menu, then select the external mouse and dsable the bult-n pontng devce, because the bult-n pontng devce may have prorty to ths functon. - Wndows 95 OSR 2.1 or hgher s requred for ths functon. And also ths functon may not work depending on the PC’s configurations and mouse drivers. - You cannot do thngs lke press two buttons at once (for nstance, pressng two buttons at the same tme to move the mouse ponter dagonally). - Ths functon s actvated only when the projector s workng properly. Ths functon is not available while the lamp is warming up (the POWER indicator flashes green), and whle adjustng the volume and dsplay, correctng for keystone, zoomng n on the screen, usng the BLANK functon, or dsplayng the menu screen. CAUTION ►Improper use of the simple mouse & keyboard functon could damage your equpment. Whle usng ths functon, please connect ths product only to a PC. Be sure to check your PC’s manuals before connectng ths product to the PC. 13ViewSonic PJ358 Turning on the power 1. Make sure that the POWER ndcator turns n steady orange and the lens cover s removed. 2. Press the STANDBY/ON button on the projector or the remote control. The projecton lamp wll lght up and the POWER ndcator wll begn blnkng n green. When the power s completely on, the ndcator wll stop blnkng and lght n steady green. To dsplay the pcture, select an nput sgnal accordng to the secton “Selectng an nput sgnal”. Do not look nto the lens of the projector or look nsde of the projector through any of the projector’s openngs. ►Do not touch around the lamp cover and the exhaust vents during use or just after use, snce t s too hot. ►Remove the power cord for complete separation. NOTE • Please power on the projector pr or to the connected dev ces. Power off the projector, after all of connected dev ces are powered off. • Th s projector has the funct on that can make the projector automat cally turn on/ off. Please refer to the AUTO ON and AUTO OFF tems of the OPTION menu. • Use the shutdown sw tch only when the projector s not turned off by normal procedure. Power on/off STANDBY/ON button POWER ndcator Lens cover Turning off the power 1. Press the STANDBY/ON button on the projector or the remote control. The message “Power off?” wll appear on the screen for about 5 seconds. 2. Press the STANDBY/ON button agan whle the message appears. The projector lamp wll go off, and the POWER ndcator wll begn blnkng n orange. Then the POWER ndcator wll stop blnkng and lght n steady orange when the lamp coolng s complete. 3. Attach the lens cover, after the POWER ndcator turns n steady orange. Do not turn the projector on for about 10 mnutes after turnng t off. Turnng the projector on agan too soon could shorten the lfetme of some consumable parts of the projector. A dalog wll appear on the screen to ad you n adjustng the volume. 2. Use the ▲/▼ cursor buttons to adjust the volume. To close the dalog and complete the operaton, press the VOLUME button agan. Even f you do not do anythng, the dalog wll automatcally dsappear after a few seconds. ● When s selected for the AUDIO tem of the SETUP menu, the volume adjustment s dsable . Temporarily muting the sound 1. Press the MUTE button on the remote control. A dalog wll appear on the screen ndcatng that you have muted the sound. To restore the sound, press the MUTE or VOLUME button. Even f you do not do anythng, the dalog wll automatcally dsappear after a few seconds. ● When s selected for the AUDIO tem of the SETUP menu, the volume adjustment s dsable . 1. Press the COMPUTER/STORAGE button on the remote control. Each tme you press the button, the projector swtches ts nput port as below. COMPUTER IN1 COMPUTER IN2 USB STORAGE ● If the COMPUTER/STORAGE button is pushed to switch from a sgnal from the VIDEO or S-VIDEO port, when TURN ON s selected for the AUTO SEARCH tem n the OPTION menu, the projector will check the COMPUTER IN1 port first. If no input is detected at the port, the projector wll check other port n above order. ● Selecting the USB STORAGE port displays the THUMBNAIL menu. For more nformaton, please see the “USB STORAGE”. When an nput s found, the projector wll stop searchng and dsplay the mage. If no sgnal s found, the projector wll return to the state selected before the operaton. COMPUTER IN1 COMPUTER IN2 VIDEO S-VIDEO USB STORAGE ● Selecting the USB STORAGE port displays the THUMBNAIL menu. For more nformaton, please see the “USB STORAGE”. S-VIDEO VIDEO ● If the VIDEO button is pushed to switch from a signal from the COMPUTER IN1, COMPUTER IN2 or USB STORAGE port, when TURN ON s selected for the AUTO SEARCH tem n the OPTION menu, the projector will check the S-VIDEO port first. If no nput s detected at the port, the projector wll check the VIDEO port. Selecting an aspect ratio 1. Press the ASPECT button on the remote control. Each tme you press the button, the projector swtches the mode for aspect rato n turn. For a PC signal or a signal from the USB STORAGE NORMAL 4:3 16:9 SMALL For a video signal, s-video signal or component video signal 4:3 16:9 14:9 SMALL For no signal 4:3 (fixed) ● The ASPECT button does not work when no proper signal is inputted. ● The NORMAL mode keeps the original aspect ratio setting. ● Performing the automatic adjustment initializes the aspect ratio setting.
