STARTINGINSTRUCTIONS ColdStart-FirstStartoftheDayorEngineRanOut ofFuel ,_WARNING:Operatethisunitonlyinawell ventilatedareaoutdoors.Carbonmonoxide exhaustfumescanbelethalinaconfined area, 1.Checkoillevelincrankcase.SeeCheckingtheOil Level. 2.Fillthefueltankwithfresh,clean,unleadedgasoline (seepage10). 3.PuttheStart/StopEngineControlintheSTARTill position.(Fi9.7) On/OffStopControl Fig.7 4.PlacethechokeleverintheFULLchoke(A)I_ position(Fig.8). NOTE:Slidethechokeleverdirectlyabovethe appropriatesymbolonairfiltercoverdecal (Fig.8). 5.Fullypressandreleasetheprimerbulbslowly7 times.Gasolineshouldbefeltandvisibleinthebulb (Fig.8).Ifgasolinehasnotenteredthebulb,press threemoretimes,oruntilitdoes. NOTE:IftheenginedoesnotstartusingtheEngine Re-startprocedures,reverttotheColdStart procedures. NOTE: 4-strokeengines,likecars,areabletostartinthe idleposition.Asanalternatemethod,youmay wanttostartyourunitintheidlepositionwhen theunitiswarm.WiththeStart/Stopcontrolin theSTARTposition,pullthestarterropebriskly. Whentheenginestarts,runatfullthrottlefor30 seconds.Iftheunitfailstostartordies,revertto theEngineRe-Startprocedure. STOPPINGINSTRUCTIONS 1.Releaseyourhandfromthethrottlecontrol(Fig.9). ADJUSTINGTRIMMINGLINELENGTH TheBumpHeadTMcuttingattachmentallowsyouto releasetrimminglinewithoutstoppingtheengine.To releasemoreline,lightlytapthecuttingattachmenton theground(Fig.14)whileoperatingthetrimmerathigh speed. NOTE:Alwayskeepthetrimminglinefullyextended. Linereleasebecomesmoredifficultascutting linebecomesshorter Eachtimetheheadisbumped,about1inch(25.4mm.) oftrimminglineisreleased.Abladeinthecutting attachmentshieldwillcutthelinetotheproperlengthif excesslineisreleased. Forbestresults,taptheBumpHeadTMonbareground orhardsoil.Iflinereleaseisattemptedintallgrass,the enginemaystall.Alwayskeepthetrimminglinefully extended.Linereleasebecomesmoredifficultasthe cuttinglinebecomesshorter. NOTE:DonotresttheBumpHeadTMontheground whiletheunitisrunning. i_AUTION:Donotremoveoraltertheline cuttingbladeassembly.Excessivelinelength willmaketheclutchoverheat.Thismaylead toseriouspersonalinjuryordamagetothe unit. Somelinebreakagewilloccurfrom: Entanglementwithforeignmatter Normallinefatigue Attemptingtocutthick,stalkyweeds Forcingthelineintoobjectssuchaswallsorfence posts TIPSFORBESTTRIMMINGRESULTS Keepthecuttingattachmentparalleltotheground. Donotforcethecuttingattachment.Allowthetipof thelinetodothecutting,especiallyalongwalls. Cuttingwithmorethanthetipwillreducecutting efficiencyandmayoverloadtheengine. Cutgrassover8inches(200mm)byworkingfrom toptobottominsmallincrementstoavoid prematurelinewearorenginedrag. Cutfromlefttorightwheneverpossible.Cuttingto therightimprovestheunitscuttingefficiency. Clippingsarethrownawayfromtheoperator. Slowlymovethetrimmerintoandoutofthecutting areaatthedesiredheight.Moveeitherinaforward- backwardorside-to-sidemotion.Cuttingshorter lengthsproducesthebestresults. Trimonlywhengrassandweedsaredry. NOTE:Thespringmustbeassembledontheinner reelbeforereassemblingthecuttingattachment. 14.Holdtheinnerreelinplaceandinstallthebumpknob byturningclockwise.Tightensecurely. HoldingSlots Fig.23 Fig.24 INSTALLINGAPREWOUNDREEL 1.Holdtheouterspoolwithonehandandunscrewthe bumpknobcounterclockwise(Fig.16).Inspectthe boltinsidethebumpknobtomakesureitmoves freely.Replacethebumpknobifdamaged. 2.Removetheoldinnerreelfromtheouterspool (Fig.17). 3.Removethespringfromtheoldinnerreel (Fig.17).Useacleanclothtocleanthespring,shaft, andinnersurfaceoftheouterspool. 4.Placethespringinthenewinnerreel. NOTE:Thespringmustbeassembledontheinner reelbeforereassemblingthecuttingattachment. 5.Inserttheendsofthelinethroughtheeyeletsinthe outerspool(Fig.24). 6.Placethenewinnerreelinsidetheouterspool.Push theinnerreelandouterspooltogether.Whileholding theinnerreelandouterspool,grasptheendsand pullfirmlytoreleasethelinefromtheholdingslotsin thespool. 7.Holdtheinnerreelinplaceandinstallthebumpknob byturningclockwise.Tightensecurely. CHECKINGTHEOILLEVEL CAUTION:Topreventextensiveenginewear anddamagetotheunit,alwaysmaintainthe properoillevelinthecrankcase.Never operatetheunitwiththeoillevelbelowthe bottomofthedipstick. Theimportanceofcheckingandmaintainingtheproper oillevelinthecrankcasecannotbeoveremphasized. Checkoilbeforeeachuse: 1.Stopengineandallowoiltodrainintothecrankcase. 2.Placetheunitonaflat,levelsurfacetogetaproper oillevelreading. 3.Keepdirt,grassclippings,etc.,outoftheengine. Cleantheareaaroundtheoilfillplug/dipstickbefore removingit. 4.Removetheoilfillplug/dipstickandwipeoffoil. Reinsertitallthewaybackin. 5.Removetheoilfillplug/dipstickandcheckoillevel. Oilshouldbeuptothetopofthedipstick(Fig.25). OilFillPlug/Dipstick\ O-Ring Add1.4-1.5Oz. CARBURETORADJUSTMENT Theidlespeedoftheengineisadjustable.Anidle adjustmentscrewisreachedthoughaholeinthetopof theenginecover(Fig.35). NOTE:Carelessadjustmentscanseriouslydamageyour unit.Anauthorizedservicedealershouldmake carburetoradjustments. CheckFuel Oldfuelisusuallythemainreasonfortheunitnot runningproperly.Drainandrefillthetankwithclean, freshunleadedfuelpriortodoinganyadjustments.Refer toOilandFuelInformation. CleanAirFilter Theconditionoftheairfilterisimportanttothe operationoftheunit.Adirtyairfilterwillrestrictairflow andchangetheair/fuelmixture.Thisisoftenmistaken foranoutofadjustmentcarburetor.Checkthecondition oftheairfilterbeforeadjustingtheidlespeedscrew. RefertoAirFilterMaintenance. AdjustIdleSpeedScrew _lbARNING:Thecuttingattachmentmaybe spinningduringidlespeedadjustment.Wear protectiveclothingandobserveallsafety instructionstopreventseriouspersonal injury. Ifaftercheckingthefuelandcleaningtheair filtertheenginestillwillnotidle,adjusttheidlespeed screwasfollows. 1.Starttheengineandletitrunatahighidlefora minutetowarmup. 2. Releasethethrottletriggerandlettheengineidle.If theenginestops,insertasmallphillipsorflatblade screwdriverintotheholeintheenginecover (Fig.35).Turntheidlespeedscrewin,clockwise, 1/8ofaturnatatime(asneeded)untiltheengine idlessmoothly.
