memory modules. Before you upgrade your computers memory, read the notes and procedures in the following pages.

❑Do not open the memory module package before you are ready to change the module. The package protects the 
module from ESD.
❑Use the special bag supplied with the memory module or wrap the module in aluminum foil to protect it from ESD.

Removing and Installing a Memory Module
To change or add a memory module
1Shut down the computer and disconnect all peripheral devices.
2Unplug the computer and remove the battery pack.
3Wait about an hour until the computer cools down.
4Unscrew the screw (indicated by the arrow below) on the bottom of the computer and remove the memory module 
compartment cover.
!Be careful not to lose the removed screw.

6Remove the currently installed memory module as follows:
❑Pull the latches in the direction of the arrows (1).
The memory module is released.
❑Make sure that the memory module tilts up and then pull it out in the direction of the arrow (2).
7Remove the new memory module from its packaging.

8Slide the memory module into the memory module slot and push it in until it clicks into place.
!Do not touch any components on the motherboard other than the memory module.
If you want to install only one memory module, be sure to use the lower slot.

Viewing the Amount of Memory
To view the amount of memory
1Turn on the computer.
2Click Start, All Programs, and VAIO Control Center.
3Click System Information and System Information.
You can view the amount of system memory in the right pane. If the additional memory does not appear, repeat the 
installation procedure and restart the computer.
