1Attach the speaker cord cover by 
sliding it down along the grooves at the 
edges of the surround amplifier.
Push the speaker cord cover down until you 
hear a click. Turn the surround amplifier 
upside down, then store the cords in the 
speaker cord cover.
2Insert the tabs of the speaker cord 
holder in the slots of the speaker cord 
cover, and press it into place.

Step 4: Performing the 
Quick Setup
Follow the Steps below to make the basic 
adjustments for using the system.
Displayed items vary depending on the area.
1Turn on the TV.
2Press [/1 on the unit, and POWER on 
the surround amplifier.
Note Make sure that the function is set to “DVD” 
(page 35).
3Switch the input selector on your TV so 
that the signal from the system 
appears on the TV screen.
[Press [ENTER] to run QUICK SETUP.]

formation image as the speakers are 
actually positioned, then press  .

9Connect the calibration mic (supplied) 
to the A.CAL MIC jack on the front 
panel.
Set up the calibration mic at ear level using 
a tripod, etc. (not supplied).

calibration mic, and there should be no 
obstruction between the speakers and the

system.

When you connect the unit and the TV with an 
HDMI cable, select the type of video signals 
output from the HDMI OUT jack.

instructions supplied with the TV/projector, etc.

Step 6: Enjoying Surround Sound
You can enjoy surround sound simply by selecting one of the system’s pre-programmed decoding 
modes. They bring the exciting and powerful sound of movie theaters into your home.
1Press SYSTEM MENU.
2Press X/x repeatedly until “DEC. MODE” appears in the front panel display, then press

3Press X/x repeatedly until “PRO LOGIC” appears in the front panel display.

About speaker output
The table below describes the options when you connect all the speakers to the unit and you set 
[SPEAKER FORMATION] to [STANDARD] (page 89).
For Australian models, the default setting is “A.F.D. STD.” For other models, the default setting is 
“A.F.D. MULTI” (when connecting the headphones to the unit or surround amplifier, the default 
setting is “HP THEATER”).

Select “A.F.D. STD,” “2CH STEREO,” or “HP 2CH” for “DEC. MODE.”
Note When you select “A.F.D. MULTI,” depending on the disc or source, the beginning of the sound may be cut off 
while the optimum mode is automatically selected. To avoid cutting the sound, select “A.F.D. STD.”
 When the bilingual broadcast sound is input, “PRO LOGIC,” “PLII MOVIE,” and “PLII MUSIC” are not effective.

Playing a Disc
Depending on the DVD VIDEO or VIDEO CD, 
some operations may be different or restricted.
Refer to the operating instructions supplied with 
your disc.
1Turn on your TV.
2Switch the input selector on the TV to 
this system.
3Press "/1.
The system turns on.
Unless the system is set to “DVD,” press 
FUNCTION to select “DVD.”
4Press Z on the unit to open the disc 
tray, and place a disc on the tray.
Place one disc on the tray, and then press Z.

To use the headphones
Connect the headphones to the PHONES jack on 
the unit. The sound of the system is muted.
You can also connect the headphones to the 
PHONES jack on the surround amplifier. (The 
sound of the system is muted.)
