    Hiding channels
    You can hide channels in the channel list. When you 
    press CH or CH, your TV skips the hidden 
    channels. You can still tune to a hidden channel by 
    pressing the number buttons for the channel.
    1Press MENU. The on-screen menu opens.
    2Press 
    W or X to highlight CHANNELS, then press T 
    or ENTER. The CHANNELS menu opens.
    3Press 
    S or T to highlight Channel Skip, then 
    press ENTER. The CHANNELS ·  CHANNEL SKIP 
    screen opens.
    4Press 
    S T W or X to highlight the channel you 
    want to hide, then press ENTER. The check mark 
    disappears.
    5Press MENU to return to the previous menu, or 
    press EXIT to close the menu.
    Setting up a favorite channel list
    You can create a favorite channel list so you can 
    quickly browse through your favorite channels by 
    pressing FAV O R IT E, then selecting a channel from 
    the favorite channel list.
    1Press MENU. The on-screen menu opens.
    2Press 
    W or X to highlight CHANNELS, then press T 
    or ENTER. The CHANNELS menu opens.
    3Press 
    S or T to highlight Favor ites, then press 
    ENTER. The CHANNELS · FAVORITES screen opens.
    4Press 
    S T W or X to highlight the channel you 
    want to add to the favorites list, then press ENTER. 
    A check mark appears next to the channel.
    5Press MENU to return to the previous menu, or 
    press EXIT to close the menu.
    Viewing a favorite channel
    1Press FAV O R I T E. The favorite channel list opens.
    2Press 
    S or T to highlight a channel, then press 
    ENTER.
    Notes
    • If you highlight a channel in the list for 
    two to four seconds, your TV displays 
    the channel in the background.
    • A channel with a check mark is not 
    hidden. A channel with no check mark 
    is hidden.
    • If the list has more than one page, 
    press 
    S or T to scroll through the 
    pages.

    Adding or changing a channel label
    If a channel is not already labeled, you can label the 
    channel to make it easier to identify. You can also 
    relabel a channel that is already labeled.
    1Press MENU. The on-screen menu opens.
    2Press 
    W or X to highlight CHANNELS, then press T 
    or ENTER. The CHANNELS menu opens.
    3Press 
    S or T to highlight Channel Edit, then press 
    ENTER. The CHANNELS · CHANNEL EDIT screen 
    opens with the channel number field highlighted.
    4Press 
    S or T to select the channel you want to 
    label, then press 
    X to move to the channel label 
    field.
    5Press 
    S or T to select a character, then press W or X to move to the previous or next character 
    position. Repeat this step to enter additional 
    characters. You can enter as many as 11 characters.
    6When you have completed the label, press ENTER.
    7Press EXIT to close the menu.
    Checking the digital signal strength
    You can check the digital signal strength to determine 
    if you need to adjust your antenna or digital cable 
    input. The higher the signal strength, the less likely 
    you are to experience picture degradation.
    1Press MENU. The on-screen menu opens.
    2Press 
    W or X to highlight CHANNELS, then press T 
    or ENTER. The CHANNELS menu opens.
    3Press 
    S or T to highlight Signal Strength, then 
    press ENTER. The Signal Strength screen opens 
    showing the signal strength meter.
    4Press MENU to return to the previous menu, or

    Setting parental 
    controls
    Parental controls let you prevent your children from 
    watching inappropriate material on TV. When set, 
    parental controls read the rating of the program (with 
    some exceptions, such as news and sports) and deny 
    access to programs that exceed the ratings level you 
    select. To watch programs that exceed the selected 
    rating, you must enter a password.
    Setting or changing the password
    1Press MENU. The on-screen menu opens.
    2Press 
    W or X to highlight SETUP, then press T or 
    ENTER. The SETUP menu opens.
    3Press 
    S or T to highlight Parental Controls, then 
    press ENTER. The Enter Password screen opens.
    4Press the number buttons to enter the four-digit 
    password. The default password is 0000. You 
    should change the password to a number you can 
    remember. The SETUP · PARENTAL CONTROLS menu 
    opens.5Press 
    S or T to highlight Change Password, then 
    press ENTER. The SETUP · PARENTAL 
    CONTROLS · CHANGE PASSWORD screen opens.
    6Press the number buttons to enter a password, 
    then enter the password again. A message tells 
    you that the password has been changed.
    7Press MENU to return to the previous menu, or 
    press EXIT to close the menu.
    Note
    If you forget your password, enter 9999.

    Locking control buttons
    When the button block is turned On, the buttons on 
    the side of your TV are locked, and you can only 
    operate your TV using the remote control.
    1Press MENU. The on-screen menu opens.
    2Press 
    W or X to highlight SETUP, then press T or 
    ENTER. The SETUP menu opens.
    3Press 
    S or T to highlight Parental Controls, then 
    press ENTER. The Enter Password screen opens.
    4Press the number buttons to enter the four-digit 
    password. The SETUP · PARENTAL CONTROLS menu 
    opens.
    5Press 
    S or T to highlight Button Block, then press 
    ENTER.
    6Press 
    S or T to select On (locks the buttons) or Off 
    (unlocks the buttons).
    7Press MENU to return to the previous menu, or 
    press EXIT to close the menu.
    Blocking unrated TV
    Some TV programs, such as news and sports shows 
    are not rated. When you set UnRated/Exempt 
    Ratings to Block, TV programs that do not have 
    ratings are blocked. When you try to watch a blocked 
    program, you are prompted to enter the parental 
    controls password.
    1Press MENU. The on-screen menu opens.
    2Press 
    W or X to highlight SETUP, then press T or 
    ENTER. The SETUP menu opens.
    3Press 
    S or T to highlight Parental Controls, then 
    press ENTER. The Enter Password screen opens.
    4Press the number buttons to enter the four-digit 
    password. The SETUP · PARENTAL CONTROLS menu 
    opens.
    5Press 
    S or T to highlight UnRated/Exempt 
    Ratings, then press ENTER.
    6Press 
    S or T to select Block (to block unrated TV ) 
    or View (to unblock unrated TV ).
    7Press MENU to return to the previous menu, or

    Setting parental control levels
    You can set parental controls for the U.S. and Canada.
    U.S. rating levels
    Some of the age-based T V Parental Guidelines ratings 
    also have content-based ratings.
    Canadian rating levels1Press MENU. The on-screen menu opens.

    W or X to highlight SETUP, then press T or 
    ENTER. The SETUP menu opens.

    S or T to highlight Parental Controls, then

    8Press ENTER to confirm. A lock symbol appears 
    when a rating is blocked.
    9Press MENU to return to the previous menu, or 
    press EXIT to close the menu.
    Downloading rating information
    If the program you are viewing has downloadable 
    rating information, you can download the 
    information to use when setting parental controls.
    1Press MENU. The on-screen menu opens.
    2Press 
    W or X to highlight SETUP, then press T or 
    ENTER. The SETUP menu opens.
    3Press 
    S or T to highlight Parental Controls, then 
    press ENTER. The Enter Password screen opens.
    4Press the number buttons to enter the four-digit 
    password. The SETUP · PARENTAL CONTROLS menu 
    opens.
    Note
    When you block a rating, that rating and 
    all higher ratings are blocked.
    Note
    If the program you are viewing does not 
    have V-Chip rating information,
    Open V-CHIP is grayed on the 
    SETUP · PARENTAL CONTROLS menu and 
    cannot be selected.

    5Press S or T to highlight Open V-CHIP, then press 
    ENTER. The SETUP · PARENTAL CONTROLS · OPEN 
    V-CHIP screen opens. The screen that you see may 
    vary depending on the broadcaster.
    6Press 
    S T W or X to select the program and 
    content types you want to block, then press 
    ENTER. The SETUP · PARENTAL CONTROLS menu 
    opens. 
    7To reset the V-Chip information to the factory 
    default, press 
    S or T to highlight 
    Reset Downloadable Data, then press ENTER. A 
    box opens.
    8Press 
    S or T to highlight OK or Cancel, then press 
    ENTER.
    9Press MENU to return to the previous menu, or 
    press EXIT to close the menu.
    Using closed 
    captioning
    Closed captioning displays a text version of the TV 
    program audio or displays information provided by 
    the broadcaster.
    Turning closed captioning on or off
    1Press MENU. The on-screen menu opens.
    2Press 
    W or X to highlight SETUP, then press T or 
    ENTER. The SETUP menu opens.
    3Press 
    S or T to highlight Closed Caption, then 
    press ENTER. The SETUP · CLOSED CAPTION menu 
    opens.
    4Press 
    S or T to highlight CC Settings, then press 
    ENTER. A menu opens.
    5Press 
    S or T to select Off (turns off closed 
    captioning), On Always (turns on closed 
    captioning), or On When Mute (turns on closed 
    captioning when the sound is muted).
    6Press MENU to return to the previous menu, or 
    press EXIT to close the menu.
    Note
    You can also press CC to turn closed

    Selecting the analog closed captioning 
    mode
    Analog channels usually have one or more closed 
    captioning modes. The CC1 mode usually displays a 
    text version of the TV program audio in a small 
    banner. The other CC modes display information 
    provided by the broadcaster. The Text modes display 
    information in a box that covers half of the screen.
    1Press MENU. The on-screen menu opens.

    W or X to highlight SETUP, then press T or 
    ENTER. The SETUP menu opens.

    S or T to highlight Closed Caption, then 
    press ENTER. The SETUP · CLOSED CAPTION menu 
    opens.

    display content provided by the broadcaster.

    Digital channels usually have one or more closed 
    captioning modes. The Service1 and CC1 modes 
    usually display a text version of the TV program audio 
    in a small banner. The other Service and CC modes 
    display information provided by the broadcaster. 
    Service1 mode displays a text version of the audio in 
    the same language as the audio.

    •Service1 through Service6—Service1 is usually 
    the “printed” version of the audio. Service2

    the broadcaster. You can change the way digital 
    closed captioning is displayed on the screen. For 
    more information, see “Customizing digital 
    closed captioning settings” on page64.
    •CC1 through CC4—Closed captioning appears 
    in a small banner across the bottom of the 
    screen. CC1 is usually the “printed” version of the 
    audio. CC2 through CC4 display content 
    provided by the broadcaster.

    Customizing digital closed captioning settings

    •Digital CC Size—Selects the font size.
    •Digital CC Font—Selects the font style.
    •Digital CC Color—Selects the color for the 
    words.
    •Digital CC Opacity—Selects the opacity level 
    for the words.
    •Digital CC Background Color—Selects the 
    color for the background.
    •Digital CC Background Opacity—Selects the 
    opacity level for the background.
    •Digital CC Edge Effect—Selects the style of the 
    letter edges.
    •Digital CC Edge Color—Selects the color of the 
    letter edges. 
    7Press 
    S or T to select a setting, then press ENTER.
    8Press MENU to return to the previous menu, or

    Adjusting time settings
    When you set up your TV for the first time, you set up 
    the clock. If the power is disconnected or you move 
    your TV to a different time zone, you need to reset the 
    clock to the correct time.
    Setting the clock
    1Press MENU. The on-screen menu opens.
    2Press 
    W or X to highlight SETUP, then press T or 
    ENTER. The SETUP menu opens.
    3Press 
    S or T to highlight Time Setup, then press 
    ENTER. The SETUP · TIME SETUP menu opens.
    4Press 
    S or T to highlight Date/Time, then press 
    ENTER. The SETUP · TIME SETUP · DATE/TIME menu 
    opens.
    5Press 
    S or T to highlight Mode, then press 
    ENTER. A menu opens.
    6Press 
    S or T to highlight Manual (to set the 
    options manually) or Auto (the options are 
    automatically set by the TV signal source), then 
    press ENTER. 7Press 
    S or T to highlight Time Zone, then press 
    ENTER. 
    8Press 
    S or T to select your time zone, then press 
    ENTER. You can select Eastern, Central, 
    Mountain, Pacific, Alaska, Hawaii, Atlantic, or 
    Newfoundland.
    9If your viewing area observes Daylight Saving 
    Time, press 
    S or T to highlight Daylight Saving, 
    then press ENTER.
    10Press 
    S or T to select On or Off, then press ENTER 
    to close the menu.
    11If you selected Manual for Mode:
    • Press 
    S or T to highlight Ye a r, Month, or Day, 
    then press X to access the setting. Press S or T 
    to adjust the setting, then press ENTER.
    • Press 
    S or T to highlight Time, then press X to 
    access the setting. Press 
    W or X to highlight the 
    hour, minute, or AM/PM field, then press S or T 
    to adjust the setting. When you are finished, 
    press ENTER.
    12Press MENU to return to the previous menu, or
