3 SCAN 31CONTENTSINDEX Button Manager Settings(part 1) Once installed, Button Manager normally runs in the background in the Windows operating system. If you need to change Button Manager settings, fo llow the steps below. For details on Button Manager se ttings, see Button Manager Help. ☞Outline of Button Manager 1Right-click the Button Manager icon ( ) on the task bar, and select Settings from the pop-up menu. The setting screen of Button Manager will open. 2 Click the tab of the scan menu that you want to set up. 3Select the start-up application in the Application Selection area. Button Manager scan me nu (factory default) If the Button Manager icon does not appear on the task bar, click the start butt on, select All Programs (Programs in Windows 98/M e/2000), select Sharp Button Manager T, a nd then click Button Manager to start Button Manager.Note ●When the Show TWAIN setting screen when scanning checkbox is se lected, the scan setting screen appears when scanning is executed to let you adjust the scanning conditions. ●On the applications other than FAX, the format can be selected in File Format. The image quality of JPEG format (only can be selected on Sharpdesk and Email) is not as hi gh as the other formats. 3 SCAN 32CONTENTSINDEX Button Manager Settings(part 2) 4 Set up the Colour Mode, Edge and other scan settings in the Scan Setup area. The tab names are initially SC1: to SC6:. To assign a name to a tab, click the Menu Name button and enter the desired name. After entering the name, click the Apply button or the OK button in the setting scr een. The assigned names will appear in the machine display when you select a scan menu at the machine. (Example: SC1:xxxxx) 5 Click the OK button. This completes the settings. 4 TROUBLESHOOTING 33CONTENTSINDEX Troubleshooting(part 1) If you experience difficulty using the machine, check the following troubleshooting guide before calling for service. Many problems can be easily resolved by the user. If you are unable to solve the prob lem using the troubleshooting guide, turn off the power switch and unplug the machine, and contact your authorised service representative. PRINTING AND SCANNING PROBLEMS In addition to this section, troubleshooting information can al so be found in the README files for each of the software programs. The README file (readme.txt) is copied to your computer when the software is installed, and can be found in the Program Files - SHARP - AR208 folder on the driv e where you installed the software. ProblemCause and solutionPage The machine does not print. The machine is not correctly connected to your computer. → Check both ends of the USB cable and make sure you hav e a solid connection. The printer driver has not been installed properly. → Follow these steps to che ck and see if the printer driver is installed. 1 Click the start button, cl ick Control Panel, click P rinters and Other Hardware, and then click Printers and Faxes. ●On Windows Vista, click the Start button, select Control Panel, and then click Printer. ●On Windows 98/Me/2000, cli ck the Start button, select Settings and then click Printers. 2 Does the SHARP AR-XXXX pr inter driver icon appear? 3 If the icon is shown but you still cannot print, the pr inter driver may not have been installed correctly. In this case, delete SHARP AR-208/M200 Series MFP Driver and then reinstall it. Operation Manual A copy job is in progress. → Wait until the copy job is finished.- The size of paper loaded in the tray is different from the paper size setting in the machine. → Make sure that th e size of paper loaded in the tray and the machines paper size setting agree. Operation Manual The specified size of paper has not been loaded. → Load the specified size of paper in the paper tray.Operation Manual The FORCED OUTPUT sett ing is set to OFF. → When FORCED OUTPUT is set to OFF and there is no paper in the machine that is the same size as the prin t image, load paper in the bypass tray as instructed by the message in the display and pr ess the [START] key to begin printing. (The bypass tray cannot be used for two-sided printing.) 4 TROUBLESHOOTING 35CONTENTSINDEX Troubleshooting(part 3) ProblemCause and solutionPage Printing is slow.Simultaneous use of two or more application software programs. → Start printing after quitting all unus ed application software programs.- The printed image is light and uneven. The paper is loaded so that printing takes place on the back side of the paper. → Some paper types have a front and back side. If the paper is loaded so that printing takes place on the back side, toner will not adhere well to t he paper and a good image will not be obtained. Operation Manual The printed image is dirty. You are using paper that is outside the specified size and weight range. → Use copy paper within the specified range.Operation Manual Paper is curled or damp. → Do not use curled or crim ped paper. Replace with dry copy paper. During periods when the machine is not used for a long time, remove the paper from the tray and store it in a dark place in a bag to prevent moisture absorption. - You did not set sufficient margins in the paper settings of your application. → The top and bottom of the pape r may be dirty if the margins are set outside of the specified print quality area. → Set the margins in the soft ware application within the specified print quality area. - The printed image is skewed or it runs off the paper. The size of paper loaded in t he tray is not the size specified in the printer driver. → Check if the Paper Size options suit the size of paper loaded in the tray. → If the Fit to Page setting is activated, make sure that the paper size selected from the drop-down list of the Fit To Paper Size option is the same as the size of the loaded paper. - Downloaded From ManualsPrinter.com Manuals

The orientation of document setting is not correct. → Click the Paper tab in t he printer driver setup scree n, and verify if the Image Orientation option is se t to your requirements. - Paper is not loaded properly. → Make sure the paper is properly loaded.- You did not correctly specify t he margins in the application. → Check the layout of the do cument margins and the paper size settings in the application you are using. Also check if the print settings are specified correctly to suit the paper size. - Error indicator is lit or blinking.See DISPLAY MESSAGES to check the meaning of the error indicator and error message in the display, and take appropriate action.Operation Manual Poor scanning quality. You have not specified a suitable value for the B/W Threshold setting. → If you are scanning with a TWAIN-compliant application and are using Red, Green or Blue mode from Light S ource menu, make sure that a suitable value is specified for the B/W Threshold settin g. A larger threshold value makes your output darker, while a small threshol d value makes it lighter. To adjust the threshold automatically, click the Auto Threshold button on the Image tab of the Custom Settings screen. - The brightness and contrast settings are not suitable. → If you are scanning with a TWAIN-compliant application and the resulting image has unsuitable brightness or contrast (for exam ple it is too bright), click the Auto Brightness/Contrast Adjustm ent button on the Color tab of the Custom Settings screen. Click the Brightness/Contrast button to adjust the brightness and the contrast while viewing the scanned output image on the scr een. If you are scanning with a WIA-compliant applicat ion or the Scanner and Came ra Wizard, click Adjust the quality of the scanned pict ure or the Custom settings button, and adjust the brightness and contrast in the screen that appears. - The original is not placed face up in the R SPF or face down on the document glass. →Place the original face up in the RSPF or face down on the document glass. Operation Manual The original was not placed in the correct position. → Place the original correctly.Operation Manual Quick Scan has been selected. → If scanning is performed w hen the Quick Scan option has bee n selected, image quality may be degra ded. This is because the scanned data is transferred using JPEG compression. If image quality is poor , then perform scanning again without selecting the Quick Scan option. If scanning is not possible, shut down your computer, turn off the machines power switch, and unplug the machines power cord. Next, start your computer, restore power to the machine, and try scanning again. If scanning is still not possible, check the following items. - Your application is not TWAIN/WIA compliant. → If your application is not TW AIN/WIA compliant, scanning will not be possible. Make sure your application is TWAIN/WIA compliant. - You have not specified all scanni ng preferences appropriately. → Scanning a large area in full color at high resolution resu lts in a large amount of data and extended scanning times. The scanning preferences should be set appropriately for the type of original to be scanned, i.e., Web page (moni tor), Photo, FAX, or OCR. - Scanner transfer speed is slow. Your computer does not meet the system requirements for the USB 2.0 interface (Hi-Speed mode). → See System requirem ents for USB 2.0 (Hi-Speed mode) in the O peration Manual to configure your system as required fo r USB 2.0, and then set USB2.0 MODE SWITCH in the user pr ograms to HI-SPEED. 4 TROUBLESHOOTING 39CONTENTSINDEX If a Notice Page is printed If you find that a notice page has been printed at the end of a print job, the print data received from the computer has not be en printed as specified. If the following Notice Page is printed, disable the ROPM functi on by removing the checkmark from ROPM in the Configuration tab of the printer driver se tup screen. If you wish to use the ROPM f unction, set the print quality to Draft. ***************************** *********************** Notice Page **************************************************** The IMC memory full error had occurred, a normal output was not able to be executed. Please refer to the operation manual for the solution method. The IMC memory is used to store print data when the ROPM function is used. Thi s memory is also used to store original image data in copy mode. The perc entage of IMC memory allocated to the printer function can be adjusted on the MEM.
