After installation is complete, you may want to set the machin e’s default settings. Refer to the next section if you would like

CHANGING THE DEFAULT MODE
Your machine is preset to Copy mode. You can switch this default mode 
between Fax mode and Copy mode.

USING THE SAVE MODES
Using the toner saving feature
Toner save mode allows your machine to use less toner on each page. 
Activating this mode extends the life of the toner cartridge beyond what one 
would experience in the normal mode, but it reduces print quality.
1.Press Menu on the control panel.
2.Press the left/right arrow until System Setup appears and press OK.
3.Press the left/right arrow until Machine Setup appears and press OK.

SETTING JOB TIMEOUT
When there is no input for a certain period of time, the machine exits the 
current menu and goes in to the default settings. You can set the amount of 
time the machine will wait.

• Do not look the light from inside of the scanner while copying or 
scanning. It is harmful to eyes.
In the document feeder
Using the document feeder, you can load up to 40  sheets of paper (75  g/m2, 
20  lb bond) for one job. 
1. Fle
x or fan the edge of the paper stack to separate the pages before 
loading originals.
2.Load the original face up into the document feeder. Make sure that the 
bottom of the original stack matches the paper size marked on the 
document input tray....

1.With one hand press and hold the guide lock, and with the other hand, 
hold the paper length guide and support guide together. Slide the paper 
length guide and support guide to locate them in the correct paper size 
slot.
2.Flex or fan the edge of the paper stack to separate the pages before 
loading papers. Insert the paper into the tray.
3.After inserting paper into the tray, adjust the support guide so that it 
lightly touches the paper stack.

Tips on using the manual tray
•If you select  Manual Feeder  for Source from your software 
application, you need to press  OK each time you print a page and 
load only one type, size and weight of print media at a time in the 
manual tray.
• To pr
event paper jams, do not add paper while printing when there is 
still paper in the manual tray. This also applies to other types of print 
media.

Envelope
Successful printing on envelopes depends upon the quality of the 
envelopes. 
To print an envelope, the stamp area is on the left side and the end of the 
en

velope with the stamp area enters the printer first and center of the 
manual tray.
If envelopes are printed out with wrinkles, crease or black bold lines, open 
the rear cover and pull down the pressure lever and try printing again. Keep 
the rear cover opened during printing.

•Do not run a sheet of labels through the machine more than once. The 
adhesive backing is designed for only a single pass through the 
machine.

o not use labels that are separating from the backing sheet or are 
wrinkled, bubbled, or otherwise damaged.
Card stock/Custom-sized paper
Postcards, cards and other custom-sized materials can be printed with this 
machine.
•Do not print on media smaller than 76 mm (3.00 inches) wide or 127 mm
