Settings214 Select the Default Language for Your Phone 1. From home, swipe up to access Apps. 2. Tap Settings > General management > Language and input . 3. Tap Language > Add language . 4. Tap an available language. Language and Input Options Some of the language and input options are detailed below. 1. From home, swipe up to access Apps . 2. Tap Settings > General management > Language and input . 3. Set options: • Language: Tap a language to assign it. • Virtual keyboard : Configure your virtual keyboards. -Samsung keyboard : Configure options for the standard Samsung keyboard. -Google voice typing : Configure your options for voice input, including language detection. • Physical keyboard : Configure options for when a physical keyboard is connected. • Text-to-speech : Tap a settings option and follow the prompts. • Pointer speed : Drag the slider to adjust the speed of a mouse or trackpad pointer.
Settings215 Date and Time Use the Date and Time settings menu either to automatically use the network-provided date and time or manually set these values, as well as select time and date format options. Access Date and Time Options 1. From home, swipe up to access Apps. 2. Tap Settings > General management > Date and time . 3. Set available date and time options. Report Diagnostic Information This feature sends diagnostic information about your device when you are having technical problems. 1. From home, swipe up to access Apps . 2. Tap Settings > General management . 3. Tap Report diagnostic information to enable or disable this feature. Reset Reset device and network settings. You can also reset your device to its factory defaults. Reset Settings You can reset your device to its factory default settings, which resets everything except the security, language, and account settings. Personal data is not affected. 1. From home, swipe up to access Apps . 2. Tap Settings > General management > Reset > Reset settings . 3. Tap Reset settings , and confirm when prompted.
Settings216 Reset Network Settings You can reset Wi-Fi, Mobile data, and Bluetooth settings with Reset network settings. 1. From home, swipe up to access Apps. 2. Factory Data Reset You can reset your device to factory defaults, erasing all data from your device. This action permanently erases ALL data from the device, including Google or other account settings, system and application data and settings, downloaded applications, as well as your music, photos, videos, and other files. Any data stored on an external SD card is not affected. Note: When you sign in to a Google Account on your device, Factory Reset Protection is activated. This protects your device in the event it is lost or stolen. For more information, see “Factory Reset Protection” on page 14. If you reset your device to factory default settings with the Factory Reset Protection (FRP) feature activated, you must enter the user name and password for a registered Google Account to regain access to the device. You will not be able to access the device without the correct credentials. Warning : If you reset your Google Account password, it can take 24 hours for the password reset to sync with all devices registered to the account. Before resetting your device: 1. Verify that the information you want to keep has transferred to your storage area. 2. Log in to your Google Account and confirm your user name and password.

Note : Unless you removed all Google Accounts from the phone before performing the Factory data reset, you will need to sign in to the Google Account that was previously assigned to the phone to complete setup. Auto Restart Optimize your device by restarting it automatically at set times. Any unsaved data will be lost when the device restarts. 1. From home, swipe up to access Apps . 2. Tap On/Off to activate Auto restart, and then set the following parameters: • Time : Set the time of day to restart your device. • Day: Select the day of the week to automatically restart your device.
Settings218 System Updates Keep your phone up-to-date with the latest software. Update Your Phone From time to time, updates may become available for your phone. 1. From home, swipe up to access Apps. 2. Tap Settings > System updates > Download updates manually . Software Update Cautions • During update: The phone cannot be used until the software update is complete. It may take time to update your phone’s software. • Signal during update : Update your phone where signal reception is good, and do not change location during the update process. Make sure the battery is adequately charged before beginning an update. A weak signal or low battery during an update may cause the update to fail. An update failure may disable the phone. Other functions during update : Other phone functions cannot be used during a software update. Update Your Phone’s Software You can update your phone’s software using the System updates option. Before Updating Your Phone Updating your phone may result in a loss of saved data depending on the condition of your phone (malfunctioning, damaged, water seepage, etc.). You must back up all critical information before updating your phone firmware.
Settings219 Update Software Once you have backed up all your data, use the Download updates manually option to update your phone’s software. 1. From home, swipe up to access Apps. 2. Tap Settings > System updates . 3. Tap Download updates manually . Alternatively, you can access system updates through the notification panel. 1. Pull down the status bar. 2. Tap System Update Available to open the System updates screen. 3. Tap Download and follow the prompts. 4. Tap Restart and install to complete the process. Confirm Your Current Phone Software 1. From home, swipe up to access Apps . 2. Tap Settings > About device . 3. Locate the Software version read-only field.

Settings221 Set a Screen Lock It is recommended that you secure your device using a Screen lock. 1. From home, swipe up to access Apps. 2. Tap Settings > Lock screen and security > Screen lock type to select a screen lock and level of security: • Swipe : Swipe the screen to unlock it. • Pattern : Create a pattern that you draw on the screen to unlock your device. • PIN : Select a PIN to use for unlocking the screen. • Password : Create a password for unlocking the screen. • None : Do not lock the screen. • Face: Use facial recognition to unlock your device. • Fingerprints : Use fingerprint recognition to unlock the screen. • Iris : Use iris recognition to unlock the screen. 3. Select your notification preferences, if you choose a secured lock screen option: • Tap On/Off to enable or disable showing notifications on the lock screen. • Hide content : Enable to hide the content of notifications. • Notification icons only : Enable to hide notification details and show only the icon. 4. Choose a screen lock option: • Smart Lock : Unlock your mobile device automatically when trusted locations or other devices have been detected. A secure screen lock is required for this feature.
Settings222 • Secure lock settings: Set your secure lock functions such as Secured lock time and Smart lock. A secure screen lock is required for this feature. Always On Display Settings Choose what to display on a standby screen instead of turning off the screen. Note : To turn this feature on or off without going to Settings, double tap the Always On Display screen. 1. From home, swipe up to access Apps . 2. Tap Settings > Lock screen and security > Always On Display for options: • Tap On/Off to enable the feature, and then set the following options: • Content to show : Choose to show Home, a clock, or information. • Clock style : Select a layout for the standby screen. This is not available if you choose Home button only . • Show always: Enable to show the Always On Display at all times. -Set schedule : If you disable Show always, then set a schedule for when to start and end Always On Display. • About Always On Display : View the current software version and license information.
Settings223 Lock Screen and AOD Settings Configure display settings for the Lock screen and Always On Display (AOD). 1. From home, swipe up to access Apps. 2. Tap Settings > Lock screen and security fo r options: • Information and FaceWidgets : Set a clock, FaceWidgets, or Contact Information to display on the Lock screen and Always On Display screen. • Notifications : Select which notifications to display on the Lock screen and Always On Display screen. • App shortcuts : Select which apps to open from the Lock screen. Samsung Pass Use Samsung Pass to access your favorite services with biometric data. You must sign in to your Samsung account to use Samsung Pass. 1. From home, swipe up to access Apps . 2. Tap Settings > Lock screen and security > Samsung Pass . 3. Follow the prompts to sign to your Samsung account and add your biometric data. Unknown Sources Enable installation of non-Google Play applications. 1. From home, swipe up to access Apps . 2. Tap Settings > Lock screen and security > Unknown sources to enable this option. Warning : Enabling installation of third-party applications can cause your device and personal data to be more vulnerable to attacks by unknown sources.
