Open the Notification Panel 1. Pull down the status bar. (Slide your finger down from the top of the screen.) 2. Drag down View all to display additional quick settings. Close the Notification Panel ► Slide the notification panel up. (Slide your finger up from the bottom of the screen.) – or – Tap Back to close the notification panel. Notification Panel Quick Settings The Quick settings list at the top of the notification panel lets you quickly access frequently used settings options. Tap an icon to turn the selected feature on or off.

It responds to voice commands, works with select apps like email and messages, sets reminders, and can help you understand your settings and set up your Samsung devices. Bixby Talks Use voice and written commands to interact with Bixby. Bixby can help you: • Make a call • Send a text • Change your settings • Find a photo • Set an alarm Bixby Sees Bixby Vision is built into your camera to give you a deeper understanding of what you’re looking at. Use object/content recognition to translate, shop, or identify a landmark. For more information, see “Bixby Vision” on page 72. Bixby Recommends Bixby learns your patterns to display what you need when you need it. It uses display cards with your most recent email messages, weather, upcoming reminders, daily workout, news, and other configurable content. Bixby Reminds Use Bixby to set reminders at any time. Bixby can tell you to pick up milk on the way home, or even keep track of your place in an article online.

Touchscreen Navigation Please note that a touchscreen responds best to a light touch from the pad of your finger or a capacitive stylus. Using excessive force or a metallic object on the touchscreen may damage the tempered glass surface and void the warranty. Ta p Lightly tap items to select or launch them. • Tap the keyboard to enter characters or text. • Tap an item to select it. • Tap an app shortcut to launch the application. D o u b l e -Ta p Lightly tap items twice to select or launch them. • Double-tap an image to zoom in or out. Touch and Hold Touch and hold items on the screen to activate them. • Touch and hold a field to display a pop-up menu of options. Swipe Lightly drag your finger vertically or horizontally across the screen. • Swipe the screen to unlock the device. • Swipe the screen to scroll through the Home screens or menu options.

Pinch and Spread Pinch the screen using your thumb and forefinger or spread by moving your fingers apart. • Pinch the screen to zoom out while viewing a picture or a Web page. • Spread your fingers on the screen to zoom in while viewing a picture or a Web page. Common Options The device uses basic command options to perform common actions. • More options: Tap to view more menu options for a screen. This often allows you to select items to delete or share. • Delete : Tap to select items to delete. • Share: Tap to select items to share, and then choose a sharing method. • Edit : Tap to customize the screen. • On/Off : Tap to turn the option on () or off (). • Checkbox : Tap to enable or select. When enabled, a checkmark is displayed. You can often tap a checkbox at the top of the screen to select all. • Menu : Tap to view available options for the field.
Learn About Your Device39 Enter Text You can type on your phone using the touchscreen Samsung keyboard or Samsung voice input. Note: Keyboard layouts and options may change depending on where you are using them. For example, if you are entering text to do a Web search, a search icon may be available instead of an enter key. Samsung Keyboard Use the touchscreen Samsung keyboard for entering text. The keyboard appears automatically when you tap a text entry field, and can be used in either portrait or landscape mode. You can also use the Samsung voice input option to enter text using your voice. The Samsung keyboard offers a traditional QWERTY keyboard setup for entering text by tapping keys (like on a computer), along with enhancements and options that allow you to enter text faster and more accurately, such as continuous key input, personalized usage dictionaries, and more. Assign Samsung Keyboard for Text Entry If you have multiple text input methods installed on your device, you can select the Samsung keyboard to be your default text input method from Settings, or you can choose it at any time while entering text. Note : The Samsung keyboard is the default text input method on your phone. Additional keyboards and input methods are available for download from the Google Play store.

Tap Samsung keyboard for options. Use Samsung Voice Input Instead of typing, enter text by speaking. To enable Samsung voice input: 1. Tap Virtual keyboard > Samsung voice input fo r options: • Add input languages : Select languages for Samsung voice input. • Hide offensive words : Hide potentially offensive words with asterisks. For more information, see “Language and Input” on page 216. Tips for Editing Text Your phone gives you many options to make entering text easier, including copying, cutting, and pasting. Touch and hold text to highlight it, and then select from the following options: • Cut: Remove the selected text and save it to the clipboard. • Copy : Copy the selected text to the clipboard. • Paste : Insert the last copied or cut text into the current field. • Clipboard : View and select items copied to the clipboard. • Share : Send the text with others using a variety of sharing methods. • Select all : Highlight all the text in the field.

Learn About Your Device43 Face Recognition Use face recognition as an alternative to entering passwords in certain apps. You can set the device to use Face Recognition to unlock the screen by recognizing your face. • Face recognition is less secure than Pattern, PIN or Password. Your device could be unlocked by someone or something that looks like your image. • Some conditions may affect face recognition, including wearing glasses, hats, beards, or heavy make-up. • When registering your face, ensure that you are in a well-lit area and the camera lens is clean. Register a Face To use your face to unlock your device, you must set a pattern, PIN, or password. For more information, see “Set a Screen Lock” on page 224. 1. From home, swipe up to access Apps . 2. Tap Settings > Lock screen and security > Face recognition . 3. Follow the prompts to register your face. Face Recognition Face verification can be applied to several features of your device. 1. From home, swipe up to access Apps . 2. Tap Settings > Lock screen and security > Face recognition for the following options: • Remove face data : Delete existing faces. • Face unlock: Tap On/Off to enable or disable face recognition security. • Face unlock when screen turns on : Unlock your phone with face recognition as soon as the screen turns on.
