84 Apps Edit a Contact Once you have added a contact, you can add or edit any of the information in the entry, assign a caller ID picture, customize with a unique ringtone, and more. 1. From home, swipe up to access Apps . 2. Tap Contacts, and then tap the contact to select it. 3. Tap Details > Edit . 4. Tap any of the fields to add, change, or delete information. 5. Tap Save . Delete Contacts You can delete a single contact or choose multiple contacts to delete. 1. From home, swipe up to access Apps . 2. Tap Contacts, and then touch and hold a contact to select it. • You can also tap other contacts or tap the All checkbox at the top of the screen to select all contacts. 3. Tap Delete , and then confirm when prompted.
85 Apps Favorites When you mark contacts as favorites, they are easily accessible from other apps. Favorites display together on the Favorites tab in the Phone app. To mark contacts as Favorites: 1. From home, swipe up to access Apps . 2. Tap Contacts, and then tap the contact to select it. 3. Tap Details . 4. Tap Add to Favorites (the star brightens ). To remove contacts from Favorites: 1. From home, swipe up to access Apps . 2. Tap Contacts, and then tap the contact to select it. 3. Tap Details . 4. Tap Remove from Favorites (the star dims ). Make a Call from Favorites 1. From home, swipe up to access Apps . 2. Tap Contacts. 3. Tap a favorite contact to view quick options. 4. Tap Call to dial the contact’s default phone number.
86 Apps Link or Unlink Contacts When you have contacts from various accounts, you may have multiple similar entries for a single contact. Contacts lets you link multiple entries into a single contact. To link contacts: 1. From home, swipe up to access Apps . 2. Tap Contacts, and then tap the contact to select it. 3. Tap Details > More options > Link contacts . 4. Tap contacts to choose them. 5. Tap Link . To unlink contacts: 1. From home, swipe up to access Apps . 2. Tap Contacts, and then tap the contact to select it. 3. Tap Details > More options > Manage linked contacts . 4. Tap Disconnect beside contacts to unlink them from the main contact.
87 Apps Groups You can use groups to organize your contacts. Your device comes with preloaded groups, and you can create your own. You might create a group for your family, for coworkers, or a team. Groups make it easy to find contacts, and you can send messages to the members of a group. Create a Group You can create your own contact groups. 1. From home, swipe up to access Apps . 2. Tap Contacts > More options > Groups. 3. Tap Create , and then tap fields to enter information about the group: • Group name : Enter a name for the new group. • Group ringtone : Customize the sounds for the group. • Add member : Select contacts to add to the new group, and then tap Done. 4. Tap Save . Add to or Remove Contacts from a Group You can add more contacts to a group, or remove contacts. 1. From home, swipe up to access Apps . 2. Tap Contacts > More options > Groups, and then tap a group. 3. Tap Edit . • To add a contact, tap Add member, and then tap the contacts you want to add. When finished, tap Done . • To remove a contact, tap Delete next to a contact. 4. Tap Save .
88 Apps Send a Message to a Group You can send a text message to members of a group. 1. From home, swipe up to access Apps . 2. Tap Contacts > More options > Groups, and then tap a group. 3. Tap More options > Send message . Send an Email to a Group You can send an email to members of a group. 1. From home, swipe up to access Apps . 2. Tap Contacts > More options > Groups, and then tap a group. 3. Tap More options > Send email . 4. Tap contacts to select them, or tap the All checkbox at the top of the screen to select all, and then tap Done . • Only group members that have an email address in their records are displayed. 5. Choose an email account and follow the prompts. Delete a Group Preset groups cannot be deleted. 1. From home, swipe up to access Apps . 2. Tap Contacts > More options > Groups, and then tap a group. 3. Tap More options > Delete . 4. Tap Group only to only delete the group or tap Group and members to delete the group and the contacts in the groups.
89 Apps Share a Contact You can quickly share contacts using Bluetooth, email, Gmail, or text messaging. 1. From home, swipe up to access Apps . 2. Tap Contacts. 3. Tap a contact, and then tap Details. 4. Tap Share . 5. Tap vCard file (VCF) to share the contact as a vCard file, or tap Te x t to share the contact information in a text file. 6. Select a sharing method and follow the prompts. • Link sharing : Send large files to others, even to people who are not in your Contacts (vCard only). • Bluetooth : Send the information using Bluetooth. See “Bluetooth” on page 164 fo r information on pairing and sending using Bluetooth. • Save to Drive : Save the information to your Google Drive™ account. • Email : Send the information as an email attachment. If prompted, select an email account. Address the message, add a subject and a message, and then tap Send. See “Create and Send an Email” on page 95 for details on sending email. • Gmail : Send the information as a Gmail attachment. • Messages : Send the information in a text message. Select a contact or enter a wireless phone number or email address, enter any additional information, and then tap Send. For more information on text messaging, see “Send a Text Message” on page 115. • Reminder: Add the information to your Reminder feature.
90 Apps • Wi-Fi Direct : Send the information to another device using Wi-Fi Direct. See “Wi-Fi” on page 160. 7. Complete the required steps as prompted for the selected method. Import Contacts Your phone offers a couple of options for importing contacts from installed SD memory cards or external devices using USB. Before Importing Contacts from an SD Card You will need to have installed an SD card with previously backed up contacts information into your phone before you can import contacts. See “Memory Card (SD Card)” on page 214 for SD card information. Import Contacts from an SD Card or USB Storage 1. From home, swipe up to access Apps . 2. Tap Contacts. 3. Tap More options > Manage contacts > Import/export contacts . 4. Tap Import and follow the prompts to complete the import. Back Up Contacts If you are saving contacts to an account that does not automatically back them up to the Cloud, you can manually back them up to an optional installed SD card for re-import if needed.
91 Apps Before Backing Up Contacts to an SD Card You will need to have installed an SD card (not included) into your phone before you can back up your contacts. See “Memory Card (SD Card)” on page 214 fo r SD card information. Back Up Contacts to Your SD Card 1. From home, swipe up to access Apps . 2. Tap Contacts. 3. Tap More options > Manage contacts > Import/export contacts . 4. Tap Export and follow the prompts to complete the export. Contacts Settings These settings allow you to modify settings associated with using the Contacts app. 1. From home, swipe up to access Apps . 2. Tap Contacts > More options > Settings . 3. Tap an option and follow the prompts.
92 Apps Email Use the Email application to send and receive email from your webmail or other accounts, using POP3 or IMAP, or access your ActiveSync account for your corporate email needs. Set Up an Email Account Your phone supports several types of email accounts and allows you to have multiple email accounts set up at one time. Before setting up an email account, make sure you have the username (user ID), password, server name, etc., so you can get set up successfully. 1. From home, swipe up to access Apps . 2. Tap Email. 3. Tap a configured Gmail account to use it with the Email app, or tap Add new account to add a different email account. 4. Follow the prompts to set up your Gmail or email account. Add an Email Account You can add several types of personal email accounts, such as POP3 and IMAP accounts, on your phone. Add an Email Account from the Email App You can add email accounts directly from the email app, even if you have another email account set up. 1. From home, swipe up to access Apps . 2. Tap Email. 3. Tap Menu > Settings . 4. Tap Add account . 5. Follow the prompts to complete the account setup.
93 Apps Add an Email Account from the Settings Menu You can also set up email accounts from the Accounts menu in Settings. 1. From home, swipe up to access Apps . 2. Tap Settings > Cloud and accounts > Accounts . 3. Tap Add account > Email . 4. Enter the Email address and Password for the email account and then tap Sign in. • If you have custom settings you need to configure, tap Manual setup and enter your settings. These may include mail type, user name, password, server, security type, etc. 5. Select your sync settings, and then tap Next. 6. Enter an account name and a display name and tap Done to complete setup. Important : If the account type you want to set up is not in the phone database, you will be asked to enter more details. You should get all pertinent information for the email account, such as incoming and outgoing server settings, before you proceed. Add an Exchange ActiveSync Account If you synchronize your phone with your Exchange ActiveSync account, you can read, manage, and send email in the same easy way as with a POP3/IMAP account. However, you can also access some powerful Exchange features. Important : Before setting up a Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync Account, contact your company’s Exchange Server administrator for required account settings information.
