Bluetooth Bluetooth is a short‑range communications technology that connects your device wirelessly to a number of Bluetooth devices, such as headsets and hands‑free car Bluetooth systems, and Bluetooth‑enabled computers, printers, and wireless devices. Note : The Bluetooth communication range is approximately 30 feet. Turn Bluetooth On or O Use the settings menu to turn your device’s Bluetooth on or o. 1. From a Home screen, tap Apps > Settings > Connections . 2. Tap Bluetoot h, and then tap On/O to turn Bluetooth on or o. Bluetooth Status Indicator Status bar icons indicate your current Bluetooth connection status: • When Bluetooth is turned on, Bluetooth is displayed in the St atus bar. Scan for Bluetooth Devices When you want to pair with another Bluetooth device, you can scan for nearby devices that are visible. 1. From a Home screen, tap Apps > Settings > Connections . 2. Tap Bluetoot h, and then tap On/O to turn on Bluetooth. • When Bluetooth is rst turned on, it scans for nearby Bluetooth devices and displays them. • To manually perform a new scan, tap Scan. Pair Bluetooth Devices The Bluetooth pairing process allows you to establish trusted connections between your device and another Bluetooth device. Pairing between two Bluetooth devices is a one-time process. Once a pairing is created, the devices continue to recognize their partnership and exchange information without having to re-enter a passcode. 1. From a Home screen, tap Apps > Settings > Connections . 2. Tap Bluetoot h, and then tap On/O to turn on Bluetooth. • Make sure that the target device is discoverable so that your device can nd it. Refer to the instructions that came with the device to nd out how to set it to discoverable mode. 3. Tap the name of the target device when you see it displayed in the Bluetooth devices section. • Your device automatically tries to pair with the target device. If automatic pairing fails, enter the passcode supplied with the target device. Settings 65 Bluetooth
Note : Due to dierent specications and features of other Bluetooth-compatible devices, display and operations may be dierent, and functions such as transfer or exchange may not be possible with all Bluetooth compatible devices. Rename a Paired Device Once you have paired your device to another device, you can rename the paired device to make it easier to recognize. 1. From a Home screen, tap Apps > Settings > Connect ions . 2. Tap Bluetoo th, and then tap On/O to turn on Bluetooth. 3. Tap Settings next to the pr e viously paired device, and then tap Rename. 4. Enter a new name, and tap Rename. Delete a Paired Device (Unpair) When you unpair from a Bluetooth device, the two devices no longer recognize each other. To connect again, you have to pair the devices. 1. From a Home screen, tap Apps > Settings > Connect ions . 2. Tap Bluetoo th, and then tap On/O to turn on Bluetooth. 3. Tap Settings next to the pair ed de vice, and then tap Unpair to delete the paired device. Settings 66 Bluetooth
Airplane Mode Airplane mode disconnects your device from all networks and turns o connectivity features, such as phone calls and Wi‑Fi. While in Airplane mode, you can use other features such as playing music, watching videos, and other oine applications. Enable Airplane Mode To enable or disable Airplane mode: 1. From a Home screen, tap Apps > Settings > Connec t ions. 2. Tap Airplane mode , and then tap On/O to enable or disable the option. Settings 67 Airplane Mode
Mobile Hotspot and Tethering Use Mobile hotspot and Tethering to share your device’s Internet connection with other devices. Enable Mobile Hotspot Activate Mobile hotspot to allow other devices to use your device’s Internet connection. Note : You must have a tethering plan on your service account in order to use Mobile hotspot. Warning: Mobile hotspot consumes battery power and uses data service. 1. From a Home screen, tap Apps > Settings > Connections. 2. Tap Mobile hotspot and t ethering > Mobile hotspot. 3. Tap On/O to turn Mobile hotspot on or o. • When activating Mobile hotspot for the rst time, you are prompted to congure some security settings. Warning: By default, Mobile hotspot has no security applied, and any device can connect. For more information, see Congure Mobile Hotspot Settings. Connect a Device to Your Mobile Hotspot Use the other device’s Wi-Fi control to connect to Mobile hotspot. 1. From a Home screen, tap Apps > Settings > Connections. 2. Tap Mobile hotspot and t ethering > Mobile hotspot. 3. Tap On/O to turn on Mobile hotspot. 4. Activate Wi-Fi on the target device. 5. Scan for Wi-Fi hotspots and select the target device from the list. 6. Enter your device’s Mobile hotspot password on the target device. Allowed Devices List Control whether devices connect to your Mobile hotspot with the Allowed devices list. After you add devices to the list, they can scan for your device and connect using your device’s Mobile hotspot name and password. Note : Using your device as a Mobile hotspot consumes battery power and uses data service. While Mobile hotspot is active, your device’s applications use the Mobile hotspot data service. Roaming while using your device as a Mobile hotspot incurs extra data charges. 1. From a Home screen, tap Apps > Settings > Connections. 2. Tap Mobile hotspot and t ethering > Mobile hotspot. 3. Tap On/O to turn on Mobile hotspot. 4. Tap More > Allowed devices, and then tap Add to enter the other device’s Device name and MAC address. 5. Tap Add to add the device. Change the Mobile Hotspot Password You can change your Mobile hotspot password. 1. From a Home screen, tap Apps > Settings > Connections. 2. Tap Mobile hotspot and t ethering > Mobile hotspot. 3. Tap On/O to turn on Mobile hotspot. 4. Tap your password, and enter a new password. 5. Tap Save . Congure Mobile Hotspot Settings Manage your Mobile hotspot security and connecting settings. 1. From a Home screen, tap Apps > Settings > Connections. 2. Tap Mobile hotspot and t ethering > Mobile hotspot. 3. Tap More > Congure mobile hotspot for the following settings: • Network name: View and change the name of your Mobile hotspot. • Hide my device: Make your Mobile hotspot invisible to other Wi-Fi devices during a scan. Other devices can still connect to your Mobile hotspot, but have to set up the connection manually with your Network SSID and Password. • Security: Choose the security level for your Mobile hotspot. • Password: If you choose a security level that uses a password, enter the password. A default password is displayed on the Mobile hotspot screen. • Show password: Display your password instead of masking it. • Show advanced options: Access advanced options, including Broadcast channel, and to specify the channel your device uses for Mobile hotspot. Timeout Settings Automatically turn o Mobile hotspot if there are no connected devices. 1. From a Home screen, tap Apps > Settings > Connections. 2. Tap Mobile hotspot and t ethering > Mobile hotspot. 3. Tap More > Timeout settings, and then select an interval. Tethering Your Device You can use USB tethering to share your device's Internet connection with a computer. 1. From a Home screen, tap Apps > Settings > Connections. 2. Tap Mobile hotspot and t ethering. 3. Connect the computer to the device using the USB cable, and then tap USB tethering to turn tethering on. Settings 69 Mobile Hotspot and Tethering
Data Usage Monitor how your data is being used, and set limits and restrictions to conserve it. Note : Your service provider may account for data usage dierently. 1. From a Home screen, tap Apps > Settings > Connec t ions. 2. Tap Da ta usage for options: • Data usage cycle: Tap the drop-down menu, and then choose a time period for data usage. Data usage for the period is displayed on the graph, along with usage by application at the bottom of the screen. • Mobile data: Enable mobile data. • International data roaming: Enable data roaming on your device. • Set mobile data limit: Your mobile data connection is turned o when the specied limit is reached. • By application: View data usage by application. 3. Tap More for the following options: • Restrict background data: Restrict some apps and services from working unless you are connected to a Wi-Fi network. • Show/Hide Wi-Fi usage: Display or hide a Wi-Fi tab that shows Wi-Fi usage. • Restrict networks: Select Wi-Fi networks that are mobile hotspots. You can restrict apps from using these networks, and you can congure apps to warn you before using these networks for large downloads. Settings 70 Data Usage
Mobile Networks Control your device’s access to networks and mobile data service. 1. From a Home screen, tap Apps > Settings > Connections. 2. Tap Mobile networ ks for options: • Mobile data: Allow your device to connect to a mobile data network. • International data roaming: Allow your device to connect to data services while roaming. Signicantly higher charges may result. • Access Point Names: Choose or add APNs. • Network operators: Choose available and preferred networks. AT&T MicroCell To search for an AT&T MicroCell: 1. From a Home screen, tap Apps > Settings > Connections . 2. Tap Mobile networ ks > Network operators > Search for AT&T MicroCell. More Connection Settings The More connection settings allow you to congure a variety of connectivity settings for your device. Nearby Device Scanning Scan for nearby devices to connect to and set them up easily. You receive a notication when there are available devices to connect to. Note : This function uses Bluetooth Low Energy scanning even if Bluetooth is turned o on your device. To enable nearby device scanning: 1. From a Home screen, tap Apps > Settings > Connections . 2. Tap More connect ion settings > Nearby device scanning. 3. Ta p On/O to enable the feature. Printing Print images and documents to Samsung printers and other compatible printers (not included) . 1. From a Home screen, tap Apps > Settings > Connections . 2. Tap More connect ion settings > Printing. 3. Tap a print service and follow the prompts. Note : Tap Download plug-in to install additional print service dr i vers. Virtual Private Networks (VPN) Set up and manage your Virtual Private Networks (VPNs) . Note : You must set a secured screen lock before setting up a VPN. For more information, see Set a Screen Lock. Add a VPN Use the VPN settings menu to add a VPN connection to your device. 1. From a Home screen, tap Apps > Settings > Connections . 2. Tap More connect ion settings > VPN . 3. Tap Add VPN and follow the prompts to set up your VPN. Connect to a VPN To connect to a VPN that you have set up: 1. From a Home screen, tap Apps > Settings > Connections . 2. Tap More connect ion settings > VPN . 3. Tap the VPN, enter your log in information, and tap Connect. Disconnect from a VPN To disconnect from a VPN that you have set up: 1. From a Home screen, tap Apps > Settings > Connections . 2. Tap More connect ion settings > VPN . 3. Tap the VPN, and tap Disconnect. Settings 72 More Connection Settings
Edit or Delete a VPN Once you have set up a VPN connection, you can edit or delete the connection. 1. From a Home screen, tap Apps > Settings > Connect ions . 2. Tap More connec tion settings > VPN . 3. Tap Settings next to the VP N t hat you want to edit or delete. 4. Edit the VPN and t ap Save. – or – Tap Delete to delete the VPN. Reset Network Settings You can reset Wi-Fi, Mobile data, and Bluetooth settings with Reset network settings. 1. From a Home screen, tap Apps > Settings > Connect ions . 2. Tap More connec tion settings > Reset network settings. 3. Tap Reset settings, and conrm when prompted. Settings 73 More Connection Settings
Sounds and Vibration Congure the sounds and vibrations used to indicate notications, screen touches, and other interactions. Change the Sound Mode You can switch between sound modes, while preserving the individual sound settings you have made. 1. From a Home screen, tap Apps > Settings > Devic e. 2. Tap Sounds and vibra tion > Sound mode, and then choose a mode: • Sound: Use the sounds, vibrations, and volume levels you have chosen in Sound settings for notications and alerts. • Vibrate: Vibrate for notications and alerts. This uses the Vibration intensity you choose in Sound settings. • Mute: Mute all sounds and notications. Vibrate While Ringing Your device can vibrate in addition to ringing when you receive a call. 1. From a Home screen, tap Apps > Settings > Devic e. 2. Tap Sounds and vibra tion > Vibrate while ringing to enable this option. Adjust the Volume Set the system volume level and default volume for call ringtones, notications, and other audio. Tip: You can also set the Ringtone volume from a Home screen by pressing the Volume key. 1. From a Home screen, tap Apps > Settings > Devic e. 2. Tap Sounds and vibra tion > Volume and drag the sliders to set the default volume for: • Ringtone • Media • Notications • System Select a Default Ringtone Choose from preset ringtones or add your own. 1. From a Home screen, tap Apps > Settings > Devic e. 2. Tap Sounds and vibra tion > Ringtone. 3.
