31 MENU/ OK button If the menu is displayed, use the 5-Function buttons (///) to change the data values and for your changes to be accepted. If the menu is not displayed, press the MENU/OK button to display a menu for the current camera mode on the LCD monitor. Press the button again to return to the previous state. Exposure compensation : This camera automatically adjusts the exposure according to the ambient lighting conditions. In Auto or Myset mode, the exposure compensation can be adjusted between -2.0EV and +2.0EV (at 0.5EV increment), and in Night mode, you can set the long time shutter. The setting value you have adjusted in Manual mode will remain unchanged even after the camera is turned off. Compensating Exposure 1. Press the +/- button, and then use the UP and DOWN buttons to select the exposure compensation icon ( ). The exposure compensation menubar will appear as shown. +/- button You can use the +/- button to adjust the values for the exposure compensation, white balance, and ISO. 32 +/- button A negative exposure compensation value reduces the exposure. Note that a positive exposure compensation value increases the exposure and the LCD monitor will appear white or you may not get good pictures. INFORMATION 2. Use the LEFT and RIGHT buttons to set the desired exposure compensation factor ( Ev). 3. Press the +/- button again. The value you set will be saved and the Exposure Compensation setup mode will close. If you change the exposure value, the exposure indicator ( ) will be displayed on the bottom of the LCD monitor. White balance : The white balance control allows you to adjust the colours to appear more natural looking. The White Balance is available in Auto Shooting mode ( ), Manual mode, and Movie Clip mode. Selecting a White Balance 1. Press the +/- button, and then use the UP and DOWN buttons to select the white balance icon ( ). The white balance menu bar will appear as shown. 2. Use the LEFT and RIGHT buttons to set the white balance to the desired value. The value you set will be displayed on the LCD monitor. - AUTO : The camera automatically selects the appropriate white balance settings, depending on the prevailing lighting conditions. - DAYLIGHT : For taking images outside. - CLOUDY : For taking images under a cloudy and overcast sky. - FLUOR. : For shooting under fluorescent lighting. - TUNGSTEN : For shooting under tungsten (standard light bulb) lighting. - CUSTOM : Allows the user to set the white balance according to the shooting condition. Different lighting conditions may cause a colour cast on your images. 3. Press the +/- button again. The value you set will be saved and White Balance setup mode will end. 33 +/- button ISO: You can select the ISO sensitivity when taking pictures. The speed or specific light-sensitivity of a camera is rated by ISO numbers. This is available only in Auto or Manual mode. Selecting an ISO Sensitivity 1. Press the +/- button, and the use the UP button to select the ISO icon( ). The ISO menu bar will appear as shown. 2. Use the LEFT and RIGHT buttons to select the desired ISO sensitivity value. - AUTO : The cameras sensitivity is automatically changed by variables such as lighting value or subject brightness. - 100, 200, 400 : You can increase the shutter speed while the same amount of light is present, by increasing the ISO sensitivity. However, the image may be saturated in high luminance. The higher the ISO value, the higher the camera’s sensitivity to light is and therefore the greater its capacity to take pictures in dark conditions. However, the noise level in the image will increase as the ISO value increases, making the image appear coarse. 3. When you press the +/- button again, the value you set will be saved and ISO setup mode will end. Using the Custom White Balance White balance settings may vary slightly depending on the shooting environment. You can select the most appropriate white balance setting for a given shooting environment by setting up the custom white balance. 1. Select the CUSTOM ( ) menu of the White Balance. 2. Place a sheet of white paper in front of the camera so that the LCD monitors auto focus frame ( ) shows only white, and then press the SHUTTER button. 3. Your custom white balance value will be stored. 4. Press the +/- button. The white balance menubar will disappear. - The custom white balance value will be applied to the next picture you take and thereafter. - The custom white balance value will not change until you set it again to another value. 34 +/- button 2) Setting Userset mode 1. In Night Shot mode, press the +/- button. A screen appears as shown to the right. 2. Use the LEFT and RIGHT buttons to set the shutter speed. Available shutter speeds are as follows: AUTO, 1/8, 3/16, 1/4, 3/8, 1/2, 3/4, 1, 3/2, 2, 3, 4, 6, 8, 12, and 16 seconds. Use the UP and DOWN buttons to set the aperture value. Use the UP and DOWN button to display the large/small aperture values at the top left of the shutter speed bar. 3. Press the +/- button again. The value you set will be saved and the mode will switch to Night Shot mode. Press the SHUTTER button to take the picture. Userset mode : This camera automatically adjusts the shutter speed and aperture values to the shooting environment. However, in Night Shot mode, you can set the shutter speed and aperture values to your preference. Select Night Shot mode, and then press the +/- button. The zoom function does not work while setting up the aperture value and shutter speed. 1) Selecting the Night Shot Mode 1. Slide the MODE switch to select Still Image mode ( ). 2. Press the MENU button. 3. Use the LEFT and RIGHT buttons to select the [MODE] menu tab, and then use the UP and DOWN buttons to select the [NIGHT] menu. 4. Press the MENU button. 36 Using the LCD monitor to adjust the camera settings You can use the menu on the LCD monitor to set up recording functions. In the STILL IMAGE/ MOVIE CLIP mode, pressing the MENU button displays the menu on the LCD monitor. The following functions are available, depending on the mode you have selected. Any changes made to settings other than Self-Timer and Voice Recording will be saved. NIGHT : Use this for shooting still images at night or in other dark conditions. 40 Metering If you cannot obtain suitable exposure conditions, you can change the metering method to take brighter pictures. This can be set in Auto and Manual modes. MULTI( ) : Exposure will be calculated based on an average of the available light in the image area. However, the calculation will be biased towards the centre of the image area. This is suitable for general use. SPOT( ) : Only the rectangular area in the center of the LCD monitor will be metered for light. This is suitable when the subject in the center is exposed correctly, regardless of the back lighting. The default metering mode is Multi pattern metering. If the subject is not the centre of the focus area, do not use the spot metering as this may result in an exposure error. In this circumstance, rather use exposure compensation. INFORMATION Effect By using the camera’s digital processor, it is possible to add special effects to your images. You can select from AUTO, MANUAL, and Movie Clip modes. The value you set will remain unchanged until the camera is turned off. NORMAL : No effect is added to the image. B & W : Converts the image to black and white. SUNSET : Used for capturing images at sunset SEPIA : Captured images will be stored in a sepia tone (a gradient of yellowish brown colours). RGB : Allows the user to adjust the R (Red), G (Green), and B (Blue) values of the images to be captured.
