3. Telephone 21 3.1.2 With the base unit 1 {SP-PHONE} 2Dial the telephone number. 3To hang up, press {SP-PHONE}. Note: LTo switch to the cordless handset while using the base unit speakerphone: – If the cordless handset is off the base unit, press {TA L K} or {SP-PHONE}. – If on the base unit, just lift up. LYou can also dial by performing step 2 before step 1. To redial the last number dialed from the base unit Press {SP-PHONE}.i{REDIAL} To mute your conversation When the call is muted, you will be able to hear the other party but the other party will not be able to hear you. Press {MUTE}. LTo release the mute, press {MUTE}. To put a call on hold Press {LOCATOR}. LTo release the hold, press {SP-PHONE} on the base unit or {TA L K} or {SP-PHONE} on the cordless handset. LIf a call is kept on hold for more than 6 minutes, beeps will start to sound. After 4 additional minutes on hold, the call will be disconnected. 3.2 Answering phone calls 3.2.1 With the cordless handset 1 Lift the cordless handset and press {TA L K} or {SP- PHONE}. LYou can also answer a call by pressing any button except {V},{^},{} or {OFF}(Any key talk feature). 2To hang up, press {OFF} or place the cordless handset on the base unit. 3. Telephone 22 Automatic Dialing 3.3 Storing names and telephone numbers into the phonebook The base unit and cordless handset provide a phonebook (50 items each). LItems stored in the phonebook can be copied between the base unit and the cordless handset (page 24). 3.3.1 With the cordless handset 1 {Phonebook} (soft key 1) 2{Add} (soft key 1) 3Enter the name, up to 16 characters. This feature is useful if for example, you want to dial a number, then enter a PIN. Telephone 24 3.7 One touch dial (Base unit only) Base unit dial keys {1} to {9} can each be used as a one touch dial key, allowing you to dial a number from the base unit’s phonebook by simply pressing a dial key. 3.7.1 Assigning an item to a one touch dial key 1 {PHONEBOOK} 2Press {A} or {B} repeatedly to display the desired item. i{MENU}i{0} 3Press {A} or {B} repeatedly to select a desired dial key. LWhen the dial key is already used as a one touch dial key, Q is displayed next to the dial key number. If you select this dial key, you can overwrite the previous assignment. 4{SET}i{SET} LTo program other items, repeat steps 2 to 4. 5{STOP} 3.7.2 Making a call using a one touch dial key 1 Press and hold the desired one touch dial key ({1} to {9}). LYou can view other one touch dial assignments by pressing {A} or {B}. 2{SP-PHONE} 3.7.3 Erasing a one touch dial assignment 1 Press and hold the desired one touch dial key ({1} to {9}).i{ERASE} LTo cancel erasing, press {STOP}. 2{SET} Note: LThe number erased from a one touch dial key will not be deleted from the phonebook. To erase from the phonebook, see page 23. 3.8 Copying phonebook items One or all phonebook items can be copied to or from the cordless handset and the base unit. 3. Telephone 25 Caller ID 3.9 Caller ID service This unit is compatible with the Caller ID service offered by your local telephone company. To use this unit’s Caller ID features, you must subscribe to a Caller ID service. Make sure the following ring count is set to 2 or more rings beforehand. – TAM ring count (feature #06 or feature 061 on page 44) and FAX ring count (feature #06 on page 44) LThe name display service may not be available in some areas. For further information, please contact your telephone company. 3.9.1 How Caller ID is displayed The calling party’s name or telephone number will be displayed after the 1st ring. You have the option of whether or not to answer the call. The unit will automatically store caller information (name, telephone number, date and time of the call, the number of times called) from the 30 (base unit)/50 (cordless handset) most recent callers. It is possible to view caller information one at a time on the display (page 25) or print the entire Caller ID list (page 67). LWhen caller information is received and it matches a telephone number stored in the unit’s phonebook, the stored name will be displayed. LIf the unit is connected to a PBX (Private Branch Exchange) system, caller information may not be received properly. Consult your PBX supplier. LIf the unit cannot receive caller information, the following will be displayed: “OUT OF AREA”: The caller dialed from an area which does not provide Caller ID service. “PRIVATE CALLER”: The caller requested not to send caller information. “LONG DISTANCE”: The caller made a long distance call. LIf the cordless handset has lost communication with the base unit when a call is received, caller information will not be recorded in the cordless handset. To confirm caller information using the Caller ID list (Base unit only) – To print manually, see page 67. – To print automatically after every 30 new calls, activate feature #26 (page 46). Call Waiting Caller ID feature If you subscribe to both Caller ID and Call Waiting services, when a second call is received during a conversation, you will hear a call-waiting tone and the display will show the second caller’s information.Press {Flash} (soft key) on the cordless handset or {CALL WAIT} on the base unit to answer the second call. LTo return to the first caller, press {Flash} (soft key) on the cordless handset or {CALL WAIT} on the base unit again. Note: LThe second caller’s information will not be displayed when: – the first call is placed on hold, – the answering machine is recording an incoming message, – an extension telephone on the same line is in use, or – you are sending or receiving a fax document. LPlease contact your telephone company for details and the availability of this service in your area. 3.10 Viewing and calling back 3.10.1 With the cordless handset The unit will tell you how many calls you missed while you were out or unavailable to answer the phone. 1Press {V} or {^} to display “Caller list”. LYou can also press {Rcvd calls} (soft key 1). 2Press {V} to search from the recently received caller information. If the same person calls more than once The number of times the same caller called (“×2” to “×9”) will be displayed. Only the date and time of the most recent call will be stored. To edit a telephone number before calling back/storing While displaying a desired caller information, press {Edit} (soft key) on the cordless handset or {*} on the base unit repeatedly. Each time you press {Edit} (soft key) on the cordless handset or {*} on the base unit, the telephone number will be changed as follows: A Local telephone number only (area code omitted) B Area code – Local telephone number C 1 – Area code – Local telephone number (“1” added) LTo return a call, press {TA L K} or {SP-PHONE} on the cordless handset or {SP-PHONE} on the base unit. LTo store the number in the cordless handset phonebook, follow from step 2 of the cordless handset storing procedure on page 27. LTo store the number in the base unit phonebook, follow from step 3 of the base unit storing procedure on page 27. 3.11 Caller ID number auto edit feature Once you call back an edited number, the unit can automatically edit other incoming phone numbers each time you receive a call. For example, you can use this feature to set the unit to ignore the area code of callers in your area code, so that you can call these local numbers using caller information without dialing the area code. To activate this feature, you must edit an item in the caller list, then call that number. After that, calls from that caller’s area code will be edited automatically. This feature can be turned ON using either the cordless handset or the base unit. The default setting is ON. 3.11.1 Turning ON the Caller ID number auto edit feature (Cordless handset) 1 {MENU}i{0}{4} 2Press {1} to select “On”. LPress {0} to select “Off”. 3{Save} (soft key) i{OFF} 3.11.2 Turning ON the Caller ID number auto edit feature (Base unit) 1 {MENU}i{#}{7}{5} 2Press {1} to select “ON”. LPress {0} to select “OFF”. 3{SET}i{MENU} Note: LThe cordless handset and base unit can remember up to 4 area codes each to be edited. Phone numbers from the 4 most recently edited area codes will be automatically edited. LThis feature will not be activated until edited numbers are called back. LIf you move to another area, you can turn this feature OFF to erase previously edited area codes. Telephone 28 Other Features 3.14 Intercom Intercom calls can be made between the cordless handset and the base unit. 3.14.1 Making intercom calls With the cordless handset 1{INTERCOM} LThe base unit will beep (be paged) for 1 minute. LTo stop paging, press {OFF}. 2When the paged party answers, talk into the cordless handset. 3To end the intercom call, press {OFF}. With the base unit You can also locate a misplaced cordless handset by paging it (Cordless handset locator). 1{INTERCOM} LThe cordless handset will beep (be paged) for 1 minute. LTo stop paging, press {SP-PHONE} or {INTERCOM}. 2When the paged party answers, talk into {MIC}. 3To end the intercom call, press {SP-PHONE} or {INTERCOM}. 3.14.2 Answering intercom calls With the cordless handset When the cordless handset is being paged, it will beep (be paged) and the ringer indicator will flash rapidly. 1Press {TA L K},{SP-PHONE} or {INTERCOM} to answer the page. 2To end the intercom call, press {OFF}. With the base unit When the base unit is being paged, it will beep. 1Press {SP-PHONE} or {INTERCOM} to answer the page. 2To end the intercom call, press {SP-PHONE} or {INTERCOM}. 3.15 Transferring a call A telephone call can be transferred between the base unit and the cordless handset using the intercom feature. 3.15.1 To transfer a call from the cordless handset 1 Cordless handset: During a phone call, press {INTERCOM} 2 times to page the base unit.LThe call will be put on hold. 2Base unit: Press {SP-PHONE} or {INTERCOM} to answer the page. 3Cordless handset: To complete the transfer, press {OFF}. 3.15.2 To transfer a call from the base unit 1 Base unit: During a phone call, press {INTERCOM} 2 times to page the cordless handset. LThe call will be put on hold. 2Cordless handset: Press {TA L K},{SP-PHONE} or {INTERCOM} to answer the page. 3Base unit: To complete the transfer, press {SP-PHONE}. Note: LIf the paged party does not answer the call, press {TA L K},{SP-PHONE} on the cordless handset or {INTERCOM} on the base unit to return to the call.

Fax 29 4Fax Sen ding Faxes 4.1 Sending a fax manually 1Adjust the width of the document guides (1) to fit the actual size of the document. 2Insert the document (up to 10 pages) FACE DOWN until a single beep is heard and the unit grasps the document. 3If necessary, press {A} or {B} repeatedly to select the desired resolution. i{SP-PHONE} 4Dial the fax number. 5When a fax tone is heard: Press {FAX START}. When the other party answers your call: Ask them to press their start button. When the fax tone is heard, press {FAX START}. To select the resolution Select the desired resolution according to the character size. –“STANDARD”: For normal-sized characters. –“FINE”: For small-sized characters. –“SUPER FINE”: For very small-sized characters. –“PHOTO”: For photographs, shaded drawings, etc. LUsing the “FINE”,“SUPER FINE” and “PHOTO” settings will increase transmission time. To redial the last number {REDIAL}i{FAX START} LIf the line is busy, the unit will automatically redial the number. LTo cancel redialing, press {STOP}. To send more than 10 pages at a time Insert the first 10 pages of the document. Add the other pages (up to 10 at a time) on top of the previously inserted pages while the last page is being fed into the unit. Pre-dialing a fax number 1.Enter the fax number. 2.Insert the document. 3.{FAX START} Sending from memory (Quick scan feature) To use this feature, activate feature #34 (page 47) beforehand. 1.Insert the document. 2.Enter the fax number. i{FAX START} LIf the document exceeds the memory capacity, transmission will be canceled and this feature will be turned OFF automatically. You must send the entire document manually. LThis feature cannot be used if {SP-PHONE} on the base unit, or {TA L K} or {SP-PHONE} on the cordless handset is pressed. To stop sending Press {STOP}. Sending a fax with the voice guide You can send documents by following the voice guide. 1.Press {HELP} 2 times. i{SET} 2.Follow the voice guide. Printing a confirmation report A confirmation report provides you with a printed record of transmission results (errors, etc.). To print confirmation reports, make sure feature #04 is activated (page 44). The default setting is “ERROR”. For an explanation of error messages, see page 53. Printing a journal report A journal report provides you with a printed record of the 30 most recent fax transmissions and receptions. To print it manually, see page 67. To print it automatically after every 30 new fax transmissions and receptions, make sure feature #22 is activated (page 46).
