Turning on/not turning on the AF Assist Lamp

Recording/not recording even when focus is not achieved
[FOCUS]:
You cannot take a picture until t he subject is brought into focus.
[RELEASE]:
This gives priority to the best time to take a picture so you c an take a picture when the 
shutter button is pressed fully.
•
When set to [RELEASE], please be aware that focus may not be ac hieved even with focus 
mode set to [AFS], [AFF] or [AFC].

Taking Pictures with Manual Focus
Applicable modes: 
Use this function when you want to fix the focus or when the distance between the lens 
and the subject is determined and you do not want to activate A uto Focus.
1Set the focus mode dial to [MF].
2Press 2 ().
3Press  3/4/2/ 1 to determine the area to 
be enlarged, and press [MENU/SET].

Achieving focus quickly using Auto Focus
In Manual Focus, if the function button to which [AF/AE LOCK] i s set is pressed (P64), 
Auto Focus will work.

Fixing the Focus and the Exposure (AF/AE Lock)
Applicable modes: 
This is useful when you want to take a picture of a subject outside the AF area or the 
contrast is too strong and you cannot achieve appropriate expos ure.
1Set a function button to [AF/AE LOCK]. (P64)
•[AF/AE LOCK] can only be assigned to [Fn1] or [Fn2].

•AF Lock only is effective when taking pictures in Manual Exposure Mode.
•AE Lock only is effective when taking pictures with Manual Focus.•Only the AF lock is active during motion picture recording. Once you cancel the AF lock during 
the recording, the AF lock cannot be reactivated.
•The subject can be focused again by pressing the shutter button  halfway even when AE is 
locked.
