Recording motion pictures with manually set 
aperture value/shutter speed 
(Creative Video Mode)
It is possible to manually change the  aperture and shutter speed and record motion 
pictures.
1Set the mode dial to [ ].
2Select the menu.  (P54)
3Press 3/4 to select [P], [A], [S] or [M], and then press [MENU/SET].
•The operation for changing the aperture value or shutter speed is the same as the

•Aperture value–Set the aperture value to a higher number when you want a sharp focus background. Set the 
aperture value to a lower number when you want a soft focus background.
•Shutter speed–When you want to take a sharp picture of a fast moving subject, set with a faster shutter 
speed. When you want to create a trail effect, set to a slower shutter speed.
–Manually setting a higher shutter speed may increase the noise on-screen due to the higher 
sensitivity.

The operational sound of the zoom or button operation may be recorded when it is 
operated during the recording of a motion picture.
Using touch icons allows  silent operation while recording motion pictures.

You can adjust black, which serves as the re ference for images in Creative Video Mode, in 
31 steps. Acting as the reference for luminance signals, black is called the master 
pedestal. By adjusting the range defined as bl ack, not only can you adjust the way black 
appears, but also the luminance balance of the entire image.

You can adjust the sound settings for motion pictures.
•For information on [Special Mic.] in the [Motion Picture] menu, which is available only when a 
stereo shotgun microphone (DMW-MS2: optional) is used, refer to  P350.
Adjust the sound input level to 19 different levels ( j12 dB ~i6dB).
•
Displayed dB values are approximate.
The camera adjusts the sound input level automatically, minimizing the sound distortion 
(crackling noise) when the volume is too high.

You can record motion pictures while hearing the sounds that are being recorded by 
connecting a commercially available headphones to this unit.

You can switch the units of shutter speed values and gain (sensitivity) values in Creative Video 
Mode.
•This function is available only when the camera is set to Creative Video Mode.

You can check areas that may be white saturated by displaying areas above a certain 
luminance level in a zebra pattern. You can also set the minimum luminance level 
(brightness) to be processed as a zebra pattern.
•
If there are any white saturated areas, we recommend compensating the exposure towards 
negative  (P157) referring to the histogram (P309)  and then taking the picture.
