three-letter extension (e.g ., “DSC_0001.JPG”). The File naming option is used to
select three letters to replace the “DSC” portion of the file name. For information on

    AExtensions
The following extensions are used: “.NEF” fo r NEF (RAW ) images, “.JPG” for JPEG images,
“.MOV” for movies, and “.NDF” for dust off reference data. In each pair of photographs
recorded at image-quality settings of NEF (RAW )+JPEG, the NEF and JPEG images have the

Select On to reduce barrel distortion when shooting with wide-
angle lenses and to reduce pin-cushion distortion when
shooting with long lenses (note that the edges of the area
visible in the viewfinder may be cropped out of the final
photograph, and that the time needed to process photographs
    before recording begins may increase).
     This option does not
apply to movies and is available only with type G, E, and D lenses (PC, fisheye, and
certain other lenses excluded); results are not guaranteed with other lenses. Before
using auto distortion control with DX lenses, select On for Auto DX crop or choose an
image area of DX (24×16) 1.5× (0 90); selecting other options may result in heavily
cropped photographs or in photographs with severe peripheral distortion.
The color space determines the gamut of colors available for color reproduction.

Choose sRGB for general-purpose printing and display; Adobe RGB, with its broader
gamut of colors, is more suited to shots destined for professional publication and
    commercial printing.

“Vignetting” is a drop in brightness at the edges of a photograph. Vignette control
reduces vignetting for type G, E, and D lenses (DX and PC lenses excluded).
     Its effects
vary from lens to lens and are most noticeable at maximum aperture.
     Choose from
High , Normal , Low , and Off.
If On is selected, photographs taken at shutter speeds slower
than 1 s will be processed to reduce noise (bright spots,
randomly-spaced bright pixels, or fog). The time required for
processing roughly double s; during processing, “lm”
will flash in the shutter speed/aperture displays and pictures
can not be taken (if the camera is turned off before
processing is complete, the picture will be saved but noise
    reduction will not be performed).
     In continuous release
mode, frame rates will slow and while phot ographs are being processed, the capacity
of the memory buffer will drop.
Long exposure noise reduction is not available
    during movie recording.
Photographs taken at high ISO sensitivitie s can be processed to reduce “noise.”
    Vignette ControlG button ➜Cshooting menu
    AVignette Control
Depending on the scene, shooting conditions, and type of lens, JPEG images may exhibit
noise (fog) or variations in peripheral bright ness, while custom Picture Controls and preset
Picture Controls that have been modified from default settings may not produce the desired
    effect.
Take test shots and view the results in the monitor. Vignette control does not apply
    to movies ( 057), multiple exposures ( 0160), or DX-format images ( 089).
