141 P, S, A, and M Modes A Filter Effects (Monochrome Only) The options in this menu simulate the effect of color filters on monochrome photographs. The following filter effects are available: Option Description Y Ye l l o w Enhances contrast. Can be used to tone down the brightness of the sky in landscape photographs. Orange produces more contrast than yellow, red more contrast than orange. O Orange R Red G Green Softens skin tones. Can be used for portraits. Note that the effects achieved with Filter effects are more pronounced than those produce d by physical glass filters. AToning (Monochrome Only) Choose from B&W (black-and-white), Sepia, Cyanotype (blue-tinted monochrome), Red, Ye l l o w , Green , Blue Green , Blue , Purple Blue , Red Purple . Pressing 3 when Toning is selected displays saturation options. Press 4 or 2 to adjust saturation. Saturation control is not available when B&W (black- and-white) is selected.
142Live View Live ViewFollow the steps below to take photographs in live view.1 Press the a button. The view through the lens will be displayed in the monitor. 2 Position the focus point. Position the focus point over your subject as described on page 147. 3 Focus. Press the shutter-release button halfway. The focus point will flash green while the camera focuses. If the camera is able to focus, the focus point will be displayed in green; if the camera is unable to focus, the focus point will flash red (note that pictures can be taken even when the focus point flashes red; check focus in the monitor before shooting). 143 Live View 4 Take the picture. Press the shutter-release button the rest of the way down. The monitor turns off and the memory card access lamp lights during recording. Do not remove the battery or memory card until recording is complete . When shooting is complete, the photograph will be displayed in the monitor for a few seconds before the camera returns to live view mode. To e x i t , press the a button. Memory card access lamp
144Live View Focusing in Live ViewFollow the steps below to choose focus and AF-area modes and position the focus point.❚❚Choosing How the Camera Focuses (Focus Mode)The following focus modes are available in live view (note that full-time–servo AF is not available in U, g , , and ( modes):1 Display focus options. Press the P button, then highlight the current focus mode in the information display and press J. Option Description AF-S Single-servo AF For stationary subjects. Focus locks when shutter-release button is pressed halfway. AF-F Full-time- servo AF For moving subjects. Camera focuses continuously until shutter-release button is pressed. Focus locks when shutter-release button is pressed halfway. MF Manual focus Focus manually ( 0154). P button
145 Live View 2 Choose a focus option. Highlight an option and press J. ❚❚ Choosing How the Camera Picks the Area (AF-Area Mode)In modes other than i, j , and (, the following AF-area modes can be selected in live view (not e that subject-tracking AF is not available in %, U , g , , and 3 modes): Option Description 6 Face-priority AF Use for portraits. The camera automatically detects and focuses on portrait subjects. 7 Wide -area AF Use for hand-held shots of landscapes and other non-portrait subjects. Use the multi selector to select the focus point. 8 Normal-area AF Use for pin-point focus on a selected spot in the frame. A tripod is recommended. 9 Subject- tracking AF Use if you want focus to track a selected subject.

147 Live View 3 Choose the focus point. 6 (face-priority AF) : A double yellow border will be displayed when the camera detects a portrait subject (if multiple faces, up to a maximum of 35, are detected, the camera will focus on the closest subject; to choose a different subject, use the multi selector). If the camera can no longer detect the subject (because, for example, the subject has turned to face away from the camera), the border will no longer be displayed. 7 /8 (wide- and normal-area AF) : Use the multi selector to move the focus point anywhere in the frame, or press J to position the focus point in the center of the frame. 9 (subject-tracking AF) : Position the focus point over your subject and press J . The focus point will track the selected subject as it moves through the frame. To end focus tracking, press J a second time. Focus poin t Focus pointFocus point
148Live View The Live View Display Item Description 0 q Shooting mode The mode currently selected with the mode dial. 25, 47, 50, 100 w “No movie” icon Indicates that movies can not be recorded. — e Time remaining The amount of time remaining before live view ends automatically. Displayed if shooting will end in 30 s or less. 152, 161 r Microphone sensitivity Microphone sensitivity for movie recording. 158 t Sound level Sound level for audio recording. Displayed in red if level is too high; adjust microphone sensitivity accordingly. Left (L) and right (R) channel indicators appear when optional ME-1 or other stereo microphone is used. 158 y Wind noise reduction Displayed when On is selected for Movie settings > Wind noise reduction in the shooting menu. 159
