Voice Record Memory
To delete  all unlocked  Voice Records:
Voice Record Memory
Typically, you can store up to 20 Voice Records with a total time of about three
minutes. To check the amount of memory available for Voice Record:
NOTE: Voice Record and Java application data share the same memory
space on your phone. Using a large amount of memory to store
Java application data reduces the space available for Voice
Record. You can create more memory space to store Voice
Record by deinstalling stored Java applications. See
“Deinstalling Java Apps ”on page 162.

The memory meter shows the amount of Voice Record memory space
currently in use. It fills in from left to right as your Voice Record

4From the Memory Meter screen, you can free more Voice Record
memory space by pressing Bunder DELETE to delete all unlocked
Voice Records.
A confirmation screen displays. Press Aunder YES to confirm.

Starting the Microbrowser
Just as you use Netscape Navigator®or Microsoft®Internet Explorer to browse
the Web from your desktop, the microbrowser contained in your phone allows
you to explore and use a variety of Nextel Online services. To begin using NOL:

4Your NOL home page displays.
NOTE: The first time you access Net, you will be asked to enable
security to ensure your information remains private and
secure.

services or upon your return to the U.S. after traveling.
When transmitting highly personal or sensitive data, such as
a credit card number, you will see the Secure Data icon

You can use youri88sphone as a wireless modem! You can connect your
IBM™-compatible computer* or Personal Digital Assistant* (PDA) to your
i88sphone and access your company’s network using Nextel Online Dial-Up
services or access the Internet or POP3 email with Nextel Online Packetstream
Gold—all without the hassle of locating a telephone jack for a landline
connection.
To activate Dial-Up services or Packetsream Gold, call 1-800-NEXTEL6 or
contact you Nextel sales representative.

Java Apps
The Java Apps feature of youri88sphone runs applications written in the Java
programming language. Youri88sphone comes with several Java applications
pre-loaded.
NOTE: In order to run a Java application, you may first need to install
the application. See“Installing Java Apps”on page 158.
You can download, install, and run additional Java applications (games and
business productivity tools) by loading them into your phone via the Internet at
nextel.com/idenupdate, then downloading them to youri88sphone using the
DownloadApps Java application.

Installing Java Apps
To install Java applications on your phone:

be suspended.
To suspend a running application:
1From theJava Appsscreen, pressRto scroll to the desired
application.
2To determine whether the application needs to be installed, look at the
display options on the screen.
If the display option is RUN or SELECT, the application is already
installedandreadytorun.See“Running Java Apps”on page 158.
If the display option is INSTALL, pressBunder INSTALL to install
the application.
3The screen will display a series of installation steps. A checkmark will
appear as each step is completed. This may take several minutes.
When your phone has finished installing the application, pressA
under DONE.

Downloading Applications
To access a selection of free Java applications, you may use the DownloadApps
Java application on your phone. For a selection of free and purchasable Java
applications, you can go to the iDEN Update Website at www.nextel.com/
idenupdate.
Downloading applications is easy. You can download these applications over
the air by using the DownloadApps application available on your phone or by
using a data cable and the iDEN Update Software Application available at
www.nextel.com/idenupdate.
NOTE: You must subscribe to a Nextel Online service in order to
download applications over-the-air using DownloadApps.
Applications that access the internet will require a subscription
to Nextel PowerApps, or PacketStream service.
Java Applications and GPS Enabled
Some Java applications can make use of your phone’s GPS feature to determine
the geographical location of your phone. (See“GPS Enabled”on page 119 for
more information on the GPS feature.) However, for privacy reasons, you may
not always want Java applications to access your phone’s geographical location.
Your phone protects your privacy by giving you the option to block all or some
Java applications from accessing your phone’s location.
About GPS Enabled Privacy Options
GPS enables you to choose one of three privacy options:
Restricted—No Java or similar software applications may view your
phone’s location. However, a different privacy protection mechanism may
apply to those customers who purchase a dispatch application.
Unrestricted—All Java applications may access your phone’s location,
without notifying you.PressBunder RESUME.

By Permission—When an application attempts to view your phone’s
location, you will be prompted to give permission. However, a different
privacy protection mechanism may apply to those customers who purchase
a dispatch application.
See“Setting Privacy for Each Java Application”on page 161 for information on
choosing one of these options.
Granting or Denying Permission
If you choose theBy Permissionoption, you have several ways to grant or deny
each Java application access to your phone’slocation.
When a given Java application attempts to access your phone’s location for the
first time, a screen appears informing you that the Java application is requesting
a read on your phone location. You may see this screen again when the Java
application requests access to your phone’s location, depending on the privacy
setting you choose for the individual Java application (see“Setting Privacy for
Each Java Application”on page 161).

If you grant the request, a screen appears asking you if you want to allow this
Java application to access your phone’s location from now on: Press
Aunder DENY. The Java application will not read your phone’s
position.
Press
Aunder GRANT. The Java application accesses your phone’s
location.

phone’s location from now on, without prompting you again. This sets
this Java applications privacy setting toAlways(see“Setting Privacy
