32 Using Features While On a Call Using Call Waiting If you subscribe to call waiting, an alert tone sounds while you are on a call to indicate that you have received a second call. You cannot do this if you already have a call on hold. 35 Using the Menu This guide shows you how to navigate to a speciÞc menu feature as follows: The > symbol means that you should scroll to and select the feature. This example shows that you must press M, scroll to and select Recent Calls, then scroll to and select Dialed Calls to see the dialed calls list. Selecting a Feature Option Some features require you to select an item from a list: Select an item by highlighting it. Use one of the following approaches: ¥ Press S to scroll up or down to the item you want. ¥ In a numbered list, press a number key to highlight the item. Entering Feature Information Features such as the phonebook require you to enter information to Þll in an entryÕs details: ¥ Enter numbers or text with the keypad. 37 Using the Menu The message center lets you compose and send text messages. (See ÒEntering TextÓ on page 38.) A flashing cursor shows you where the text will appear: When you enter text, the ßashing cursor changes to a block cursor , and the soft key functions change: Msg: CANCEL BROWSE Press BROWSE (+) to view and insert a name, number, or message from previously stored information. Press CANCEL (-) to exit without making changes. Flashing cursor indicates insertion point. Press Mto open the sub-menu. M Msg: T DELETE OKPress OK (+) to accept and store the text. Press DELETE (-) to delete the character to the left of the insertion point. Block cursor indicates current highlighted character. 38 Entering Text Various text entry methods make it easy for you to enter names, numbers, email addresses, and text messages on your phone. You can enter all characters (letters, numbers, and symbols) using the standard tap method. Other text modes let you easily enter numbers or insert text already stored on your phone. Finally, a predictive text mode lets you enter text messages with a minimum of keypresses. Choosing a Text Mode To activate a text mode, press M from any text entry screen and select the text mode from the Entry Method menu: Note: The text mode you select remains active until you change it by selecting another mode. iTAP Let the phone predict each word as you enter it, then choose the word from a list (see ÒPredictive Text Entry with iTAPª SoftwareÓ on page 40). Tap MethodEnter characters one at a time by pressing the key for the letter, number, or symbol (see ÒTap MethodÓ on page 39). This is the standard mode for entering text on your phone. Numeric Enter only the number that appears on each key. Browse Browse through your phonebook and recent calls lists to select a name or number to enter. 39 Entering Text Tap Method Tap method is the default standard mode for entering text on your phone. To enter text using the tap method: General Text Entry Rules Use the keypad to enter letters, numbers, symbols, and other characters with the tap method. Press the same key repeatedly to cycle through available characters (see the ÒCharacter ChartÓ on page 40): ¥ To enter text at a ßashing cursor, press a number key. ¥ To enter the desired character, press the number key as many times as necessary. For example, press 2 three times to enter the ÒcÓ character. ¥ To cycle between uppercase and lowercase characters, press and hold a key. Entering Text 40¥ To move the ßashing cursor up or down one line in a text message, or to change a character in block cursor to uppercase or lowercase, press S. ¥ To move the ßashing cursor to the left or right in a text message, press * or #. ¥ If you do not press a key for two seconds, the character in the block cursor is accepted, and the cursor moves to the next position. ¥ The Þrst character of every sentence is capitalized unless you manually change it. (Hold the number key or press S down to force the character to lowercase while it is highlighted by the block cursor.) Character Chart Use this chart as a guide for entering spaces, numbers, letters, symbols, and other characters with the tap method. Press and hold a key to cycle between uppercase and lowercase characters.
