Printing on specialty media 61 Printing Printing on specialty media Media is paper, card stock, transparencies, labels, and envelopes. The last four are sometimes referred to as specialty media. Follow these instructions to print on specialty media. 1Load the media as specified for the tray being used. See Loading standard or optional 500-sheet trays for help. 2From the MFP control panel, set the Paper Type and Paper Size according to the media you loaded. See Setting the Paper Type and Paper Size for help. 3From the computer software application, set the paper type, size, and source according to the media you loaded. Windows aFrom a word processor, spreadsheet, browser, or other application, select File Æ Print. bClick Properties (or Options, Printer, or Setup, depending on the application) to view the MFP driver settings. cClick the Paper tab. A paper tray list will appear. dSelect the tray containing the specialty media. Note:If you have difficulty, click Help, and then follow the driver instructions. eSelect the media type (transparencies, envelopes, and so on) from the Paper Type list box. fSelect the size of the specialty media from the Paper Size list box. gClick OK, and then send the print job as usual. Mac OS 9 aSelect File Æ Page Setup. bSelect the size of the specialty media from the Paper pop-up menu, and then click OK. cSelect File Æ Print. dWith General selected on the top pop-up menu, go to the Paper Source pop-up menu, and select the tray containing the specialty media or the name of the media. eClick Print. Mac OS X aSelect File Æ Page Setup. bSelect the MFP from the Format for pop-up menu. cSelect the size of the specialty media from the Paper pop-up menu, and then click OK. dSelect File Æ Print. eFrom the Copies & Pages pop-up menu, select Imaging. fSelect the specialty media on the Paper Type pop-up menu. gFrom the Imaging pop-up menu, select Paper Feed. hSelect the tray containing the specialty media from the All pages from or First page from / Remaining from pop-up menus. iClick Print. Loading standard or optional 500-sheet trays 62 Printing Loading standard or optional 500-sheet trays Your MFP has two 500-sheet standard trays. You may have also purchased an optional 2x500-sheet drawer which has two additional 500-sheet trays. Print media is loaded into all the 500-sheet trays the same way. Note:The steps for loading the optional 2000-sheet dual input trays and the 2000-sheet high capacity feeder are different than the steps for loading a 500-sheet tray. To load print media: Note:Do not remove a tray when a job is printing or when the operator panel indicator light is blinking. Doing so may cause a jam. 1Pull out the tray. Loading standard or optional 500-sheet trays 63 Printing 2Squeeze the side guide tab, and slide the guide to the outside of the tray. 3Squeeze the front guide tab, and slide the guide to the correct position for the media size you are loading. 4Flex the sheets back and forth to loosen them, then fan them. Do not fold or crease the print media. Straighten the edges on a level surface. 5Load print media in the tray with the print side up. For information about loading Letter or A4 size media in the short-edge feed position, see Loading Letter or A4 size print media in the short-edge feed orientation. Setting the Paper Type and Paper Size 65 Printing Setting the Paper Type and Paper Size After setting the Paper Type and Paper Size to the correct values for the type and size used in the trays, then any trays containing the same size and type are automatically linked by the MFP. Note:If the media size you are loading is the same media size that was previously loaded, do not change the Paper Size setting. To change the Paper Size and Paper Type setting: 1Make sure the MFP is on. 2Touch the Menus button on the control panel. 3Touch Paper Menu. 4Touch Paper Size. 5Touch the left or right arrow to change the size for the desired tray. 6Touch Submit. 7Touch Paper Type. 8Touch the left or right arrow to change the media type for the desired tray. 9Touch Submit. 10Touch the home icon. Loading the multipurpose feeder 66 Printing Loading the multipurpose feeder The multipurpose feeder can hold several sizes and types of print media, such as transparencies, postcards, note cards, and envelopes. It can be used for single-page or manual printing or as an additional tray. The multipurpose feeder can hold approximately: 100 sheets of 75 g/m 2 (20 lb) paper 10 envelopes 75 transparencies The multipurpose feeder accepts print media within the following dimensions: Width—89 mm (3.5 in.) to 297 mm (11.7 in.) Length—98 mm (3.9 in.) to 432 mm (17.0 in.) The icons on the multipurpose feeder show you how to load the multipurpose feeder with paper, how to turn an envelope for printing, and how to load letterhead paper for simplex and duplex printing. To load print media: Note:Do not add or remove print media when the MFP is printing from the multipurpose feeder or when the operator panel indicator light is blinking. Overloading may cause jams. 6Slide the width guides until they lightly rest against the edge of the media. 7Set the Paper Size and Paper Type for the multipurpose feeder (MP Feeder Size and MP Feeder Type) to the correct value for the print media you loaded. aTouch the Menus button on the touch screen. bPress the to the right of Paper Menu. cPress the to the right of Paper Size or Paper Type. dPress the to the right of the paper source you are using. ePress until you see the paper size or paper type you loaded, and then press Submit. fPress the home icon to return to the home screen.
