Changing the long-life photoconductor kit
Warning:When replacing the long-life photoconductor kit, do not touch the blue drum. Touching the drum will 
contaminate the long-life photoconductor kit and affect print quality.
1Open the rear cover by sliding the release button to the right.
2Remove the long-life photoconductor kit by pulling out on the extended tabs.
Warning:When rear door is open, be careful not to touch the attached roller....

3Unpack the new long-life photoconductor kit, being careful not to touch the blue drum when removing the foam 
covering. Handle the long-life photoconductor kit by the tabs only. 
Warning:Touching the blue drum will cause contamination and affect print quality.

5Push the tabs firmly with your thumbs until the long-life photoconductor kit clicks into place.
6Close the rear door.
Warning:Do not leave the rear door open longer than necessary. Extended light exposure can damage the blue 
photoconductor drum and cause print quality problems.
7Open the front cover and hold the Cancelbutton until all lights begin to cycle to reset the long-life 
photoconductor kit counter and warning.

with the agreement that the cartridge will be returned, at no cost, only to Lexmark for recycling.

Toner low light sequence 
comes onTo extend toner cartridge life somewhat, remove the cartridge. Gently shake the toner 
cartridge from side to side and front to back several times to redistribute the toner, and 
reinsert it. Repeat this procedure multiple times. If the print remains faded, replace the toner 
cartridge. See Changing the toner cartridge on page 68 for help.

Print quality problems
To solve many print quality problems, replace supply or maintenance items that have reached the end of intended life. Use 
the following table for solutions.

light.
 The paper being used does not 
meet printer specifications.
 The toner cartridge is low.
 The toner cartridge is defective. Select a different Toner Darkness 
setting from the printer driver before

 Avoid textured paper with rough 
finishes.
