39 On-Road Navigation MAP SYMBOLS Depending on the destination entered and the map scale selected, a variety of symbols for facilities of general interest appear in the map mode. 40 On-Road Navigation ROUTE SELECTION •Turn the right rotary control (10) to select ‘Information’. •Press the control (10) to confirm selection. Selecting a route type You can change the type of route both when selecting a destination and as often as desired while destination guidance is in operation - the system will always adapt to your wishes. •Turn the right rotary control (10) to select ‘Route selection’. •Press the control (10) to confirm selection. •Turn the control to select the preferred type of route. 1.Fast roads Motorways and trunk roads are given priority. 2.Minor roads Motorways are avoided as far as possible3.Fastest route This is a combination of the fastest and shortest routes. 4.Shortest route The most direct route, irrespective of how fast or slow progress will be •Press the control to confirm selection. TERMINATING DESTINATION GUIDANCE All the functions for inputting new destinations will over-write the currently displayed destination with the new one. When the control is pushed to transfer the new destination to the guidance system. However, should you wish to discontinue guidance (including voice) completely, you can delete the current destination. Fron the ‘Input Destination’ screen, turn the control to select ‘Delete destination’ then press the control to confirm. The destination will be deleted and all guidance (including voice) will cease. 41 On-Road Navigation DISPLAYING A ROUTE Route map During destination guidance, the system can display a map showing the planned route. •Turn the right rotary control (10) to select ‘Route map’. •Press the control (10) to confirm selection. The route map is automatically shown if destination guidance takes you into a region which has not yet been fully digitised on the inserted map CD. Changing the map scale •Turn the right rotary control (10) to select ‘Scale’. •Press the control (10) to confirm selection. •Turn the control again to select the desired scale. •Press the control again to confirm / store this setting.The visible section of the map changes after a few seconds. Changing the display direction If the scale is smaller than 1 mile, you can choose whether to align the map with North at the top, or according to the direction of your chosen route. •Turn the right rotary control (10) to select ‘Map positioning’. •Press the control (10) to confirm selection. •Turn the control again to select the desired direction. •Press the control again to confirm selection. Displaying the route list. You can call up a list of places and streets during destination guidance. The list is based on the route proposed by the navigation system. The length of the individual streets or roads is also indicated. To display the route list during destination guidance: •Turn the right rotary control (10) to select ‘Information’. •Press the control (10) to confirm selection. •Turn the control again to select ‘Route list’. •Press the control again to confirm selection. •Turn the control to select the desired route list. •Press the control to confirm selection. 42 On-Road Navigation AVOIDING ROAD CONGESTION You can, during destination guidance, deviate from planned sections of the route. You indicate the distance in miles after which you wish to return to the original route. •Turn the right rotary control (10) to select ‘New route’. •Press the control (10) to confirm selection. •Turn the control again to select the desired distance. •Press the control again to confirm selection. The system will return you automatically to the original route at the next opportunity, after the selected deviation distance. TRAFFIC INFORMATION You can receive Traffic Message Channel (TMC) information in countries where this is available and have it displayed on the screen during destination guidance. Activating traffic information To activate the TMC traffic information function from the ‘Input destination’ screen: •Turn the right rotary control (10) to select ‘Traffic-info’. •Press the control (10) to confirm selection. •Turn the control again to select ‘Service selection’. •Press the control again to confirm selection. •Turn the control to select ‘RDS-TMC’. ‘TMC’ appears in black in the bottom line of the display. The display changes to green as soon as a TMC channel is received. •Press the control to confirm selection. NOTE: The radio can also receive TMC stations while you are listening to another station. This feature is described in the radio section of this handbook. Selecting traffic information To determine the nature of the incident: •Turn the right rotary control (10) to select ‘Traffic-info’. •Press the control (10) to confirm selection. •Turn the control again to select ‘TMC messages’. •Press the control again to confirm selection. Any known incidents appear in green. •When an incident type is selected, text is displayed in a darker colour. •Press the control to activate / de-activate the selection. •Turn the control to select ‘memorise’. •Press the control to confirm selection. •Turn the control to select ‘Dest. guide’ or ‘Map’, to switch to destination guidance or the route map. •Press the control to confirm selection. Traffic information during destination guidance The following information will appear in the route guide before any stationary traffic: 1.The cause of the congestion, this will be shown using the symbols. 2.The distance until you reach the congestion. 3.The length of the congestion. 4.The distance before the last possible exit. If the navigation system detects congestion or stationary traffic on the intended route, a warning symbol appears next to ‘Route map’ in the destination guidance mode. At approximately three miles (five kilometres) before the last possible exit prior to the congestion, ‘Diversion’ appears in the destination guidance screen. 44 On-Road Navigation To avoid the congestion, turn the right rotary control and select ‘Diversion’. The navigation system calculates a new route and then returns to destination guidance mode. If you have selected another mode whilst destination guidance is still active and the navigation system detects congestion ahead, you are automatically prompted to take a diversion. De-activating traffic information. If you do not wish to receive TMC traffic information: •Turn the right rotary control (10) to select ‘Traffic-info’. •Press the control (10) to confirm selection. •Turn the control again to select ‘Service selection’. •Press the control again to confirm selection. •Turn the control to select ‘no traffic information’.•Press the control to confirm selection. ‘TMC’ disappears from the bottom line of the screen. 45 On-Road Navigation VEHICLE POSITION You can call-up the present location of your vehicle or display a road map showing your position. Vehicle position display To call-up the vehicle’s current position: •Turn the right rotary control (10) to select ‘Information’. •Press the control (10) to confirm selection. •Turn the control again to select ‘Vehicle position’. •Press the control again to confirm selection. The current location is shown on the left of the screen. •If the map is required, turn to ‘Street map’ and press to select. Your current location is shown on a map of the area. Road map This function can also be useful if you have not input a destination. It enables you to monitor the route you have taken so far. From any current display: •‘Information’. •‘Vehicle position’. •‘Street map’. If the scale is less than one mile, you can choose whether to align the map with North at the top, or according to the direction of your chosen route. Entering the vehicle position Correcting the vehicle’s current location is only recommended in exceptional circumstances. After a journey where the vehicle is not being driven but is being transported, for example, a ferry or motor rail journey, the GPS receiver requires a few minutes to find your new location. This search period can be shortened by entering the vehicle’s current location. 46 Off-Road Navigation Off-Road NavigationGETTING STARTED With the starter switch in position ‘I’ or ‘II’ press the MENU button (9). Turn the right rotary control (10) until ‘Off Road Navigation’ is highlighted, then press the right rotary control. An information screen appears with the following: “Off-road conditions may change. Always ensure that it is safe to make the suggested manoeuvre before following any navigational advice. A road marked on a map does not automatically confer right of way. If in doubt, ask the appropriate authority. Refer to the off-road driving section of the Owner Handbook. Read the advice and then press the right rotary control (10) to continue. The off-road satellite navigation system provides the following facilities: •An off-road route comprising a series of waypoints. •‘As the crow flies’ guidance using audible instructions and a map or data display. •A compass. •The co-ordinates of the vehicle’s current location. •The current heading and bearing to your next waypoint or destination. •The vehicle’s current altitude.•A route list, enabling you to store favourite routes. NOTE: When in use off-road, the Global Positioning System (GPS) can only be guaranteed accurate to within 300 feet. Please allow for this when plotting waypoints on the route. Navigation status The first navigation display shows the current status of the navigation system, referring to the last entered route, including: •Name of the last programmed route. •Distance to the next waypoint (illustrated as START). •Distance to the route destination (illustrated as ‘WAYPOINT). •Waypoint radius (see Waypoints). •Direction of route guidance. NOTE: If compass guidance mode was the last selected, only the compass and the waypoint radius data will be given on the status screen. Press the right rotary control (10) to go to the main guidance screen (either ‘Map display’, ‘Full’ or ‘Reduced’ guidance. Then, by pressing the right rotary control (10) again, a drop-down main guidance menu can be obtained from which most of the system options can be accessed. 47 Off-Road Navigation NOTE: If information on a subject is needed, the off-road navigation system provides an on-screen ‘Help’ facility - see ‘Navigation help’ later in this section. CREATING A ROUTE From any guidance source, turn the right rotary control (10) to view the main guidance menu. Then from the menu, highlight and select ‘Routes’. From the routes menu, highlight and select ‘Route list’. A list of routes previously entered into the system is displayed, along with an entry entitled ‘New route’ (if no routes have been entered in to the on-board computer, only the ‘New route’ and ‘Return’ options are available.NOTE: Arrows will be displayed if more routes are stored in the navigation computer than can be displayed at one time. Use the right rotary control to scroll through the list to view all the stored routes. Highlight and select ‘New route’ to view the ‘Insert route’ screen. From the ‘Insert route’ screen, highlight and select ‘Route’. An alphanumeric list will be displayed with the word ’ROUTE’ already entered. Highlight and select ‘delete’, and keep the rotary control pressed to delete the word ‘ROUTE’. Enter a name for your route by using the right rotary control to highlight and select each letter in turn (a name can consist of up to 20 characters). When the name is complete, highlight and select ‘enter’.
