Maintenance4-9 Prolonged Non-Use and Moving the Printer Prolonged Non-use If you ever leave the printer unused for a long period of time, remove the power cord from the wall outlet. We recommend you consult with your dealer about the additional actions you should take to avoid possible damage that may occur when the printer is used next time. Moving the Printer When you move the printer: •Move it gently. • Keep it as level as possible to avoid spilling toner inside the printer. • Be sure to consult a service technician before attempting longdistance transportation of the printer. 5-2Troubleshooting General Guidelines The table below provides basic solutions for problems you may encounter with the printer. We suggest you consult this table to troubleshoot the problems before calling for service repairs. Tips Printer problems may be solved easily by following the tips below. When you have encountered a problem that cannot be solved following the guidelines above, try the following: •Restart the computer you are using to send print jobs to the printer. • Obtain and use the latest version of the printer driver. The latest versions of printer drivers and utilities are available at: http://www.kyoceramita.com/download/. • Make sure that the procedures for printing are correctly followed in the application software. Consult the documentation supplied with the application software. Symptom Check Items Corrective Actions The printer will not print from the computer. Check the Ready indicator. Using the information on page 1-5, check if an error has occurred and clear the error. Check if a status page can be printed. If the status page was printed successfully, there may be a problem with the connection to the computer. Refer to the Installation Guide and check the connection. Check that the indicators display in a recognized combination. Refer to Indicators on page1-5 for further information. Turn the power switch Off (O) and then On ( | ) again. Print the job again. Print quality is poor. Refer to Print Quality Problems on page 5-3. Paper is jammed. Refer to Cleaning Paper Jams on page5-9. The indicators are off and the fan is not working. Check the power cord . Connect both ends of the power cord securely. Try replacing the power cord. Refer to Installation Guide for information. Check the power switch is in the On ( | ) position. Refer to the Installation Guide for more information. The printer prints a status page but data from the computer is not being printed. Check program files and application software.Try printing another file or using another print command. If the problem occurs with a specific file or application, check the printer settings for that application. Check the interface cable . Connect both ends of the interface cable securely. Troubleshooting5-3 Print Quality Problems The tables and diagrams in the following sections define print quality problems and the corrective action you can conduct to solve the problems. Some solutions may require cleaning or replacing parts of the printer. If the suggested corrective action will not solve the problem, call for service. Printed Results Corrective Action Completely blank printout Check the toner container. Open the front c over and check that the toner container is correctly installed in the printer. Refer to Toner Container Replacement on page 4-2. Full single-color printout Contact your service technician. Dropouts, stray dots Drum or process unit may be damaged. If the problem is not solved even after printing several pages, call for service. Vertical streaks Check the toner container and if necessary replace. Refer to Toner Container Replacement on page4-2. Clean the charger wire . Refer to Cleaning the Printer on page4-6. Check the charger cleaner of the drum unit is in its original position. Refer to Cleaning the Printer on page4-6. Check the process unit and drum unit are installed correctly. Refer to Cleaning the Printer on page4-6. Dirt on the top edge or back of the paper If the problem is not solved even after printing several pages, c lean the registration roller . Refer to Cleaning the Printer on page4-6. If the problem is not solved after cleaning, call for service. Printing incomplete or out of position Check that the printing settings are correct in the application software and the printer driver. Check whether the problem is being caused by a PRESCRIBE command error. If the problem occurs only with a specific file or program, the most likely cause is an error in a parameter to a command or command syntax. Troubleshooting5-5 Understanding Indicators The indicator displays generally fall into one of three categories: normal operation, maintenance and errors (repairs). Click the icon to play the animation of the indicator combinations. Right-click an indicator , then select Playback and Play to play the animation repeatedly. Normal Indication The table below shows the indicator combinations when the printer status is normal. IMPORTANT To play the animation, you have to install Adobe Flash Player and Adobe Reader (Version 6.01 or more) to your PC. If the animation is not displayed, you should get the latest version from Adobe site (http://www.adobe.com/downloads/). Indicator Meaning The printer is canceling data. The printer is warning up. 5-6Troubleshooting The printer is receiving data. Printing resumes when the [GO] is pressed. The printer is printing the last page after waiting. Printing is possible. Offline status. You cannot print, but the printer can receive data. The printer returns to online status when the [GO] is pressed. The printer is in sleep mode.The printer returns to online status when the [GO] is pressed, the cover is opened and closed, or the printer receives the print jobs. Troubleshooting5-7 Maintenance Indication The table below shows the indicator combinations when user intervention is required. It is assumed that the printer is online and is processing data. Indicator Meaning Remedy There is no paper in the cassette, MP tray , or Manual Feed .Load paper into the paper source. The cassette is not inserted properly. Insert the cassette fully into the printer. The top cover is open. Close the cover. There is no cassette in the paper feeder or the cassette specified as a paper supply is not inserted properly. Re-insert the cassette and then try printing again. The process unit or toner container is not installed. Install the process unit or toner container . The cassette does not contain the paper specified by the printer driver. Load the paper into the cassette (#[1 or 2]) and then restart printing. You can change the paper source by pressing the [GO] . The paper sizes do not match. If the paper size in the paper source differs from the paper size and type specified by the printer driver, you can print by supplying paper from the MP tray or Manual Feed . Load the correct paper size and type into the MP tray or Manual Feed and press [GO] to begin printing. If you want to supp ly paper from a source other than the MP tray or Manual Feed , you can change the paper source by pressing [GO]. If the paper fed from the MP tray or Manual Feed is a different size from the specified paper size, a paper jam will occur. A paper jam occurred during printing. 5-8Troubleshooting Error Indication If the indicators light or flash repeatedly in manners not described above for normal or maintenance indication, a service error has probably occurred. Turn the printer off by the power switch, wait 5 seconds and then turn the printer on again. This may clear the error. Even if the error is not cleared, contact your service technician. The toner is running low. Have a new toner container ready. The toner has run out. Replace with a new toner container. After replacing the toner container, clean the inside of the printer. Unable to print with the specified resolution due to insufficient memory. Add the expansion memory to the printer. CF card is not formatted. Format the CF card. Specified file not found. Press [GO] to continue processing. Press [Cancel] to cancel processing. The current printing cannot be continued. Press [GO] to continue processing. Press [Cancel] to cancel processing. Unable to print due to insufficient memory. Install the expansion memory in the printer. Press [GO] to continue processing. Press [Cancel] to cancel processing.
