7 Reproducing theater ambience
In a movie theater, many speakers are located on the walls to
reproduce impressive multi-surround sounds, reaching you
from all directions.

Dolby Pro Logic II*
Dolby Pro Logic II has a newly developed multi-channel
playback format to convert all 2-channel source including
Dolby Surround into 5-channel (plus subwoofer)
reproduction.
Matrix-based conversion method for Dolby Pro Logic II
makes no limitation for the cutoff frequency of the surround
treble and enables stereo surround sound unavailable with

DSP modes
DAP (Digital Acoustic Processor) modes
The sound heard in a concert hall, club, etc. consists of
direct sound and indirect sound—early reflections and
reflections from behind. Direct sounds reach the listener
directly without any reflection. On the other hand, indirect
sounds are delayed by the distances of the ceiling and walls
(see the diagram below). These direct and indirect sounds
are the most important elements of the acoustic surround
effects.

Using Surround mode
The system is so set up in its initial state that it automatically
selects the optimal surround mode for each input signal —
auto surround mode.
Only when you want to change a surround mode selected
automatically, perform the following procedure.
• After having changed the surround mode, turning off the
power or changing sources resumes the auto surround
mode.

Adjusting sound
Once you have adjusted the sound, the adjustment is stored
for each source.
• You can also adjust the sound using the choice menu
except the DSP effect level (see page 55).

Using the disc menu, you can start playing a title, chapter, or
track you specify.
