112Coolant Replacement Coolant Servicing Your Honda Saf ety Precautions Refer to on page . Coolant should be replaced by your Honda dealer, unless you have the proper tools and service data and are mechanically qualified. Refer to the official Honda Service Manual (page ). Remove the reserve tank cap ( ). Always add coolant to the reserve tank. Do not attempt to add coolant by removing the radiator cap. Addcoolanttothereservetankas required to bring the coolant level to the UPPER level mark. Install the reserve tank cap. With the engine at normal operating temperature, check the coolant level in the reserve tank ( ). It should be between the UPPER ( ) and LOWER ( ) level marks. If the reserve tank is empty, or if coolant loss is excessive, check for leaks and see your Honda dealer for repair. Remove the lower cowl (page ). Removing the radiator cap while the engine is hot can cause the coolant to spray out, seriously scalding you. Tighten the lower lock nut and check the adjustment. Turn the lower adjusting nut ( ) to obtain the specified freeplay. Loosen the lower lock nut ( ). Loosen the upper lock nut ( ) and turn the upper clutch cable adjuster ( ) all the way in (to provide maximum freeplay). Tighten the upper lock nut. Remove the lower cowl (page ). 119 Other Inspections & Lubrication Clutch System Servicing Your Honda Start the engine, pull the clutch lever in, and shift into gear. Make sure the engine does not stall and the motorcycle does not creep. Gradually release the clutch lever and open the throttle. Your motorcycle should move smoothly and accelerate gradually. Lubricate the clutch cable with a commercially available cable lubricant to prevent premature wear and corrosion. Check the clutch cable for kinks or signs of wear. If necessary, have it replaced. Check that the clutch lever assembly is positioned properly and the securing bolts are tight. If you cannot get proper adjustment, or the clutch does not work properly, the cable or clutch friction discs may be worn. See your Honda dealer or refer to the official Honda Service Manual (page ). 7. 236 —— y y y y
IMR9E-9HES (NGK) VUH27D (DENSO) standard spark plug or 120Spark Plug Recommendation Spark Plugs Servicing Your Honda Using spark plugs with an improper heat range can cause engine damage. This motorcycle uses spark plugs that have an iridium coated center electrode. Be sure to observe the f ollowing when servicing the spark plugs. Do not clean the spark plugs. If an electrode is contaminated with accumulated objects or dirt, replace the spark plug with a new one. To check the spark plug gap, use only a ‘‘wire-type feeler gauge.’’ To prevent damaging the iridium coating of the center electrode, never use a ‘‘leaf-type feeler gauge.’’ Use only the recommended type of spark plugs in the recommended heat range. Do not adjust the spark plug gap. If the gap is out of specification, replace the spark plug with a new one. —— y y y y
