    SAFETY PRECAUTIONS
THE FOLLOWING SAFETY PRECAUTIONS (WARNINGS) ARE MEANT TO PROTECT THE USER AND HIS ENVI-
RONMENT AND MUST BE OBSERVED AT ALL TIMES. PLEASE READ THEM VERY CAREFULLY!
    GENERAL SAFETY PRECAUTIONS
    1. Be thoroughly familiar with controls and the proper use of the mower.
    2. Do not allow children and youngsters under 16, as well as adults who are unfamiliar with the lawnmower and
these instructions, to use the mower.
    3. Do not start the machine, when people (especially small children) or pets are nearby.
    4. Keep in mind that the operator or user is responsible for accidents or hazards occuring to other people or their
    property.
WARNING: ALWAYS STOP THE ENGINE AND DISCONNECT THE SPARKPLUGWIRE (SEE DIAGRAM 1):
    - DURING TRANSPORTATION TO AND FROM THE LAWN.
    - BEFORE INSPECTING AND REPARING THE MOWER.
    - WHEN ADJUSTING THE CUTTING HEIGHT OR ANY OTHER PART.
    - BEFORE MAINTENANCE OR CLEANING.
    - WHEN REPLACING THE BLADE OR ANY OTHER PART.
    - WHEN THE MOWER IS DAMAGED.
    - WHEN THE MOWER SUDDENLY STARTS TREMBLING.
    - WHEN CLEARING BLOCKAGES OR UNCLOGGING THE DISCHARGE CHUTE.
    - WHEN LEAVING THE MOWER UNATTENDED OR WHEN THE MOWER IS STORED.
    - WHEN REFILLING FUEL TANK.
    PREPARATION PRECAUTIONS
    1. Never operate the mower when barefoot or wearing open sandals, but wear stout shoes or boots and long
trousers to protect your legs. Avoid loose hanging clothing that might be caught by rotating parts.
    2. Thoroughly inspect the area where the equipment is to be used and remove all stones, sticks, wires, glass, bones
    or any other foreign objects.
    3. Before operation, always visually inspect to see that the blade, blade bolt and cutter assembly are not worn or
damaged. Tighten all bolts firmly. Replace worn or damaged parts. After replacing the blade, the cutting system
    must be balanced.
    4.WARNING: PETROL IS HIGHLY FLAMMABLE!
    - Store fuel in containers specifically designed for this purpose.
    - Refuel outdoors only and DO NOT SMOKEwhile refuelling.
    - Refill the tank only till max.15 mm under the edge and before starting the engine.
    - Never remove the cap of the fuel tank or add petrol while the engine is running or when the engine is hot.
    - If petrol is spilled, do not attempt to start the engine but move the machine away from the area of spillage
and avoid creating any source of ignition until petrol vapours have dissipated.
    - Replace fuel tank and container caps securely.
    - Do not operate the engine in a confined space. Exhaust fumes are dangerous, containing CARBON MONOX-
IDE, an ODORLESS and DEADLY GAS.
    - Do not change the engine governor settings or overspeed the engine. If the settings need to be corrected,
contact a service station, approved by the engine manufacturer.
    - Never start or operate the mower without or with a defective silencer.
    - The temperatur of the exhaust pipe and its surrounding area could rise above 80°C, so keep sufficient dis-
    tance.
    OPERATION PRECAUTIONS
    1. Mow only in daylight or in good artificial light.
    2. Avoid operating the equipment in wet grass.
    3. Walk, never run behind the mower.
    4. Always be sure of your footing on slopes. Mow across the face of slopes, never up and down. Extreme caution
when changing direction. Do not mow excessively steep slopes, with a gradient of more than 20%.
    5. Use extreme caution when pulling the mower backwards with rotating blade.
    6. Stop the blade when crossing surfaces other than grass and when transporting the mower to and from the area
    to be mowed.

    7. Never operate the mower with defective guards or controls and only with grasscatcher connected or closed safe-
    tyflap.
    8. Stop the blade before removing the grasscatcher.
    9. Start the engine carefully according to the instructions of the manufacturer.
    10. Do not tilt the mower when starting the engine.
    11. Never put your hands or feet underneath the cuttercover or inside the discharge chute and never turn the mower
on its side when the blade is rotating.
    12. Check and repair the mower after hitting a foreign object.
    MAINTENANCE AND STORAGE PRECAUTIONS
    1. To reduce fire hazard remove grass, leaves or excessive grease. Never use solvents or cleaning fluids.
    2. Check the mower and grass catcher thoroughly. Replace worn or defective parts.
    3. Any simple repairs carried out by the owner, must be performed with great care and with reference to the con-
    ditions of guarantee.
    4. Replacement blades and other parts must be supplied by the manufacturer. Refer to the conditions of assem-
    bly and guarantee.
    5. Store the mower in a dry and secure place, out of reach for children.
    6. Never store the mower with fuel in the tank inside a building where fumes may reach an open flame or spark.
Allow the engine to cool before storing in any enclosure. If the fuel tank has to be drained, this should be done
    outdoors.
    GENERAL ASSEMBLY
Identify all of the parts supplied in the package.
    ASSEMBLY OF HANDLE AND THROTTLECONTROL
Familiarise yourself with the general design and qualify the diagrams for your model.
    1. First mount the lower part of the handle bar on the frame as shown in figure 2. Do not forget to tighten the bolts.
    2. Assemble the upper handle tube in accordance with fig. 3.
    3. Assemble the OPC cable (figure 5A-5B-5C). Hook the cable-end into the hole of the plastic engine brake lever.
Screw the conduit fitting by using the long screw to the handle bar and secure with a washer and a nut.
    4. Finally secure the cables to the handle tube by using the cable ties.
    GRASS CATCHER ASSEMBLY
Familiarise yourself with the general design and qualify the diagrams for your model.
First mount the upper part asshown in figure 5.
The grass catcher in synthetic material will be mounted as shown in figure 6.
After assembly the grass catcher is to be mounted to the mower by lifting the safety guard and locating it to the pegs
    or picklock.
    ADJUSTING THE CUTTING HEIGHT
Individual wheel height adjustment. See figure 7.
CUTTING HEIGHT RECOMMENDATIONS: First put the machine on a level surface.
Long grass:Set the mower at its highest setting and advance machine slowly. Then cut the grass once again at a
    lower setting.
Short grass:Cut the grass using one of the lower settings. Never cut too short during summertime, otherwise the
grass will be damaged by sunburn.
Damp grass:Never cut damp grass. It will tend to build up underneath the machine and could jam the motor.
    USING THE MOWER
ATTENTION: OBSERVE ALL WARNINGS TO PREVENT RISK OF INJURY!
    - MOWERS WITH 4-STROKE ENGINE ARE SUPPLIED WITHOUT OIL INSIDE THE CRANKCASE!
    - FIRST READ ENGINE OPERATION AND MAINTENANCE MANUAL FOR PROPER PROCEDURE!
    - FILL ENGINE CRANKCASE WITH Å 0,6 LITER MOTOROIL SAE 30!

4-STROKE ENGINE:Check oil level. Fill up if necessary (read the engine operation manuel). Check fuel level.
Refill if necessary. Type of fuel: UNLEADED PETROL.
    TO START A COLD ENGINE:
    1. Check if spark plug is tightened and wire is attached.
    2. Push primer bulb firmly 3 times (Fig. 8).
    3. Disengage the engine brake by pulling the OPC handle to the handle bar. (O) STOP (Fig. 8)
    4. Pull starter rope firmly. (Fig. 8)
TO STOP ENGINE:let loose the engine brake lever.
TO START A WARM ENGINE: same as cold engine except step 2.
    MAINTENANCE AND CARE
IN GENERAL:Examine all rotating parts and the condition of the blade at regular intervals. Replace defective parts.
If the blade needs to be re-ground ensure that it is balanced before re-fitting. After using the machine clean the under-
side with a blunt scraper. Also clean the air-holes in the grass catcher regularly as maximum airflow will give the best
grass collection results. Check the oil level in the crankcase regularly and refill if necessary. Read the manual of the
    engine manufacturer.
ANNUAL STORAGE:Empty the fuel tank. Then start the engine and let it run till it stops due to lack of petrol. Remove
the spark plug and put the mower on its side (with spark plug opening up). Pour a few drops of engine oil through
the spark plug hole into the cylinder. Crank the engine several times to distribute oil. Reinstall the spark plug. Note:
do not connect the wire to the spark-plug. It is advisable to have the blade re-ground and balanced once every sea-
son. Grease the blade and the under-side of the chassis thoroughly. Store the mower in a dry, covered space.
REPLACING THE BLADE: First disconnect the sparkplugwire. Always use the correct size spanner to remove the
blade. Always wear protecting gloves. Hold the blade with one hand and remove the blade-bolt by rotating the span-
ner anti clockwise. Only replace the blade with the manufacturers recommended blade (dia. 9 and table). Torque for
    bladebolt: 45 Nm.
TO CHANGE CRANKCASE OIL (4-STROKE ENGINE):The crankcase oil should be changed after 5 hours of oper-
ation and every 25 hours thereafter. Use oil SAE 30. Read the engine manufacturers manuel.
    1. Run the engine till it is warm.
    2. Turn the engine off and remove spark plug wire. Put the mower in horizontal position.
    3. Remove the drainplug (on the underside of the crankcase) and drain the oil totally.
    4. Reinstall the drainplug carefully and tighten securely.
    5. Remove the oil fill cap and fill with motor oil as in engine manufacturers manual.
    6. Reinstall oil fill cap and tighten securely.
    7. Check the oil level before each use and add oil as required.
AIR FILTER: For maintenance and care, read the engine manufacturers manue.
    1. PAPER FILTERS may only be cleaned dry and need replacement every 25 working hours.
    2. SPONGELIKE FILTERS should be cleaned every 5 hours of operation. To clean air filter, proceed as instructed in
the engine manufacturers manual. Replace air filter after 25 hours of operation.
TROUBLE SHOOTING:Consult your dealer or an acknowledged service station.
    ADDITIONAL INSTRUCTIONS FOR POWER-PROPELLED MODELS
In order to engage the clutch, just move the lever towards the handle bar (See figure 10) while the motor is turning
at full speed. Just release the clutch bracket to stop the machine.
