Paper Handling161 9. Flip the paper guide roller down and re-attach the paper tray cover. Note: ❏Make sure the roll paper support is not raised. ❏Before printing on cut sheet media, make sure paper in the paper tray is not curled. If it is curled, uncurl it; otherwise, a paper jam may occur. Now, the printer is ready to print. While the printer is printing, do not open the top cover. If the top cover is opened while printing is in progress, the printer stops printing, and then restarts printing when the top cover is closed. Stopping and restarting printing may reduce the print quality. c Caution: Do not leave paper in the printer for a long period of time; its quality will deteriorate. Epson recommends that you remove the paper from the printer after printing. Loading paper into the front manual feed slot When printing from the front manual feed slot, keep enough space behind the back of the printer for the paper to be fed without obstruction. Refer to the table on the next page for space requirements.

See PPR SIZE CHK on page 120 for details. ❏Always load thick paper (0.8 to 1.5 mm) in the front manual feed slot. ❏Load one sheet at a time into the front manual feed slot. ❏Load paper with the printable side face-up. 1. Make sure the printer is turned on and is in the READY state. 2. Press the paper source button to select sheet. 3. Move the paper lever to the released position. 164Paper Handling 7. Align the right side of the paper with the arrow mark on the paper tray cover, as shown below. Align the bottom edge of the paper with the appropriate line on the paper tray. If your paper size is Letter, A4, or B4, align the paper edge with the LTR/A4/B4 line. If you’re using another paper size, align the paper edge with the OTHERS line. 8. Close the top cover.

Note: ❏If PPR SIZE CHK is set to OFF on the printer’s control panel, REMOVE PAPER appears on the LCD. You need to select ON for PPR SIZE CHK. See PPR SIZE CHK on page 120 for details. ❏If you press the pause button, the printer starts to feed the paper to the printing position immediately. 10. Extend the paper tray and cover if necessary to support the sheet as it comes out of the printer. Note: Make sure the roll paper support is not raised. Now, the printer is ready to print. Loading paper into the rear manual feed slot Note: ❏Load one sheet at a time into the rear feed slot. ❏Load paper with the printable side face-up. ❏Always load A4, Letter size, or 8 × 10 in. recycled or plain paper short edge first. Other paper sizes and types with a thickness between 0.08 and 0.79 mm can be loaded long edge first. 1. Make sure the printer is turned on and is in the READY state. 2. Press the paper source button to select sheet. 3. Align the sheet with the right edge of the slot and insert it until it meets resistance. Make sure the sheet is straight. The printer automatically feeds the paper to the printing position. Note: If you press the pause button, the printer starts to feed the paper to the printing position immediately.

Maintenance and Transportation169 Chapter 5 Maintenance and Transportation Replacing Ink Cartridges When the printer’s B ink light is flashing, one or more of the ink cartridges is low on ink. When the light remains on, this indicates that an ink cartridge is expended and you need to replace the expended ink cartridge. The printer’s LCD also displays INK LOW or REPLACE INK CRTG. Note: Even if only one ink cartridge is expended, the printer cannot continue to print until you replace it. Follow the steps on the next page to replace an ink cartridge. c Caution: ❏We recommend that you use genuine Epson cartridges and do not refill them. The use of other products may affect your print quality and could result in printer damage. ❏Leave the old ink cartridge installed in the printer until you are ready to replace it with a new one. 170Maintenance and Transportation 1. Make sure the printer is on. Find out which cartridge needs to be replaced, as indicated by the steady or flashing Bink light. 2. Press the ink compartment cover to open it. 3. Raise the ink lever to the released position. 4. Carefully pull the expended cartridge straight out of the printer. Note: Make sure you save your first set of expended 110 ml cartridges, so you can use them for transporting the printer if necessary. w Warning: If ink gets on your hands, wash them thoroughly with soap and water. If ink gets into your eyes, flush them immediately with water.
