5. When you see a window asking you to turn on your printer, press the 
PPower button. (Make sure the printer is connected; see page 22.)

Updating Your Printer Firmware
Before you begin using your printer, you should check for a newer version of 
firmware on the Epson support site and update your printer, if necessary. 
Downloading the Firmware
1. Navigate to http://support.epson.com in your browser. 
2. Choose your printer. 
3. Click 
Drivers and Downloads to find the newest firmware. 
4. Choose the version for Macintosh or Windows and follow the

3. Make sure Stylus Pro 4800 is selected, then click the Firmware 
Updater
 button. You see the Firmware Updater window. 
4. Make sure your printer is on, its LCD is set to 
Ready, and it is 
connected to your computer, then choose 
Stylus Pro 4800 in the 
Printer list. 
5. Click 
Browse and find the firmware that you just downloaded and 
extracted. Select the file and click

6. If the firmware version of the file is newer, click Update to start the 
firmware updating process. (If it is the same, you don’t need to update.)
7. When the update is complete, close the Firmware Updater window, LFP 
Remote window, and the Printer Utility window. 
To finish the installation, you need to load some cut-sheet paper and align 
the print head, as described on page 107.Caution: Don’t turn off 
the printer while the 
firmware is updating.

Guidelines for Using Epson Media
Follow these guidelines, as well as those included in your paper package, 
when printing on Epson paper and other media:
Avoid touching the printable surface with your bare hands. Fingerprints 
may affect print quality. Handle media by the edges or use cotton 
gloves.
Always choose the correct Media Type setting in your printer driver 
software before you send your job. See page 66 (Mac OS X) or page 83 
(Windows) for instructions....

Cut Sheet Paper Paths
In addition to the paper tray, two paper paths are available for manual 
feeding of special media. Make sure you use the correct paper path for Epson 
media, as listed below:

Follow these steps to load cut sheets in the paper tray:
1. Make sure the printer is turned on, then press the   Paper Source 
button until the   sheet icon
 appears on the LCD display. 
2. Extend the paper tray and paper tray cover.
3. Lift up the paper tray cover.

4. Flip up the paper guide roller and slide the edge guide all the way to the 
left.
5. Clean the inside of the paper tray to remove any dust. Dust may affect 
printout quality.
6. Thumb through a stack of paper, then gently tap it on a flat surface to 
even the edges.
