Maintaining the Projector121 Cleaning the Air Filter and Vent Your projector includes an air filter to ensure the best performance. If dust collects on the air filter or vent, clean them as described below. Dust clogs prevent proper ventilation and can cause overheating and damage the projector. If you see the following message, clean the air filter immediately. The projector is overheating. Make sure nothing is blocking the air vent, and clean or replace the air filter. 1. 122Maintaining the Projector Replacing the Lamp and Air Filter The life span of the projection lamp is about 5000 hours if Power Consumption in the Setting menu is set to Normal (default), and 6000 hours if Power Consumption is set to ECO. It is time to replace the lamp when: ■The projected image gets darker or starts to deteriorate. ■The message Replace the lamp appears on the screen when the lamp comes on and the lamp warning light flashes orange. Maintaining the Projector123 4. Loosen the lamp cover screw (you can’t remove it). Then slide the lamp cover and lift it off of the projector. 5. Loosen the two screws holding the lamp in place (you can’t remove them). Loosen, but don’t remove these screws

124Maintaining the Projector6. Hold the lamp as shown and pull it straight out. 7. Gently insert the new lamp. (If it doesn’t fit easily, make sure it is facing the right way.) 8. Push down the side marked PUSH until it snaps in. note The lamp(s) in this product contain mercury. Please consult your state and local regulations regarding disposal or recycling. Do not put in the trash.

126Maintaining the Projector Replacing the Air Filter If the filter is difficult to clean or damaged, or if the overheating message appears after cleaning, you need to replace the filter. To obtain a new filter, contact your dealer, call Epson at 800-GO-EPSON (800-463-7766), or purchase online at www.epsonstore.com (U.S. sales) or www.epson.ca (Canadian sales). 1. Press the Menu button on the remote control or on the projector’s control panel. You see the main menu. 2. Follow these guidelines to prevent damage: ■Close the A/V Mute slide (lens cover) to protect the lens. ■When shipping the projector for repairs, use the original packaging material if possible.
